Back when diction and elocution were important. Sir Eric was a true gentleman... watching the news and anything else he appeared on back then was like welcoming a beloved grandfather into your loungeroom. Brilliant all.

And now almost all Australian news readers are far too young and lacking in any gravitas! Probably more so that they'll do what they're told and don't really have any opinions.

From a time when you could watch the 6 o'clock news for twenty minutes, then forget about the world for 24 hours.

@@brad9562 Yes, and the climate warmed considerably to end the last Ice Age without any anthropogenic factors at all. I wonder how the global climate changed so drastically without human activity having any role? Could it be that climate change is completely natural?

@@brad9562 maybe you should remember that next time you attempt to blame anthropogenic climate change for a cyclone or a heatwave that ends with bushfires

Why is he kissing the women on the lips?? This wouldn’t happen today.

In the 70's all my aunties, my Nana and Mum kissed on the lips. I used to drop my head because I was shy and got the kiss on the forehead or top of the head and they laughed at me. Wasn't sexual in any way as it would be today, just affectionate.

In case you (like me) you wondering when this took place, according to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Pearce_(broadcaster) it was 1978.

I was thinking 78/79, I remember Sir Erik was there for years and then Brian Naylor took the reins and held them a very long time. Shows you how long Peter Hitchener has been there as well. I am pretty sure Brian Naylor was on 7 before that.
