Funny thing is I was a Tottenham fan and Les was my best striker but when he joined Spurs he was never the same, I even thought us getting Ginola would help Leslie but the truth was Ginola was allowed the freedom of Tottenham high road at Spurs so was more or less playing for himself then a lot of injuries to key players including Ferdinand meant the club nearly got relegated. I reckon if Anderton and Sinton had been injury free and Armstrong and Fox Ferdinand and Spurs would have had a better season

There are times when you shouldn't be THAT loyal. If a club like Manchester Utd come in for you while you're playing for a side like QPR you should pounce on the opportunity. Carp diem springs to mind. You'd be forgiven by everyone, and I expect the thoughts "what if" often creep in for Les. Would have won plenty of premier league titles at Utd. Great player.

@Incomplete6230 Dude, seriously? Grow up! I wasn't accusing him of being anything! By your logic every player that leaves to join a successful club is dishonest and has no integrity. He left eventually didn't he? Obviously you have poor judgement because I do possess those qualities :)
@whitedove1579
@whitedove1579 5 жыл бұрын
@William if he had have gone to Man Utd then he wouldve only lasted a couple of years as he did at Newcastle. He was a fine header of a ball but his link-up play wasnt great and Andy Cole was more of a natural finisher and had a little more pace. Fergie wouldve sold him in 1997 and wouldve eventually got Andy Cole in to replace him.
@wilbertone3
@wilbertone3 5 жыл бұрын
@@whitedove1579 Yeah perhaps, but what did he win at Newcastle in those two years? At least he'd have won a premiership or two with Utd. And who knows what would have happened after that. You could pretty much say that about any talented player in relation to longevity, or lack thereof at a club, but when the likes of Manchester Utd come calling when you play for the likes of QPR you should snap it up. How many chances do you get to play for a club like that?
@whitedove1579
@whitedove1579 4 жыл бұрын
@array s Mark Hughes was just 16 when he 1st joined Man Utd in 1980 before rejoining them in 1988 at age 24. Cantona was 26 when he joined Utd in 1992. Solskjaer was 23 when he joined Utd in 1996, Cole was 23 in Jan 95, Yorke was 26 in August 98. These players were all young or at their peak years. Sheringham being the exception was already 31 years old when he joined Utd in summer of 97. But as we know Sheringham was a bit of a freak of nature when it came to longevity. He was like Giggs in the fact he played at a decent level right up until age 41. So Sheringham still had a lot of milage left in him at 31 because he was a great reader of the game and he didnt rely on pace or power to be a very effective player. OK, Ferdinand played up until about age 40 aswell because he kept himself fit. I suppose if Fergie had've signed Ferdinand in either 95 or 97 then Les wouldve played for United untill 2001 just like Sheringham. So Utd wouldve had 4 strikers of Yorke, Cole, Solskjaer and Ferdinand and wouldn't have ever signed Sheringham. Althought theres no a massive difference between the skill sets of Sheringham and Ferdinand i think Man Utd signed the better player in Sheringham. Les was perhaps a better header of a ball (although Sheringham was a great header himself) but i think Teddy was better in all other departments. People seem to forget Teddy won the PFA Carling Player of the year for 2000/2001 at the grand old age of 35. Thats a remarkable achievement which only the likes of Messi and CR7 can hope to emulate.

He must kick himself @ how things worked out when he could easily have won minimum of 2 PL Titles along with FA and League Cups and possibly even a Champion's League. I remember even Keegan himself saying when he was a Liverpool player that if Manchester United come calling.............. you go. Everyone @ QPR would have understood.
