They really are intellectually ahead of their times and how they handled relationships with people, not just Footballers made them brilliant. They are capable of being world leaders. Their knowledge and insights trans send their times they lived. I love to hear their voices from the past. Still very relevant to modern times.

You never know though, what if he worked with Shankley who then becomes his Bob Paisley and Bob Paisley succeeded him as he did. Liverpool would had least 30 league titles and more than 10 European Cups and even Real Madrid might have been made a footnote in history. No Busby Babes and my club would still have had some success but no longevity or history. I might not even have been born because Manchester United is something my Mum and Dad had in common. Good job that this nightmare never happened you're right.

That makes me sad for them, they deserve a better legacy.

@@mattsmiddy40 definitely well said it's January 2020 now and I hope Soskjaer does well and challenges Klopp. It would be great to see England's two most famous and successful clubs challenging each other for the title. They have never been at the top together battling each other for trophies, it would be good for the UK as a whole for these two teams to have the Wenger - Ferguson type duels. The Scottish League would relish it as it would be inspirational, Celtic and Rangers would do their best to match that excitement and in turn all teams in Britain and Ireland would be revitalised. With Pep and other managers doing well it would be crazy. It would be like the 60's. It just feels fitting and almost destiny for this to happen. Manchester United and Liverpool going toe to toe for titles in a new ears of dominance for both clubs, toppling El Clasico as it is almost a derby, battle of the best and the most loved, and also thebiggest rivalry. Then the local rivals of City and Everton respectively, keeping them on their toes, as well as the battle for the best in London with Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal it would become the best league worldwide.

Both clubs wear red and have nicknames with the colour in it, both have had inspirational managers from Scotland, who both created the clubs' identity, both clubs have a history of attacking football, both clubs are well supported with loyal fans, both clubs are very famous, both clubs are from the north west of England, both clubs have had very famous players who became global cult heroes, both clubs are highly successful with both having eras of dominance and lastly both clubs have had dreadful tragedies that shocked the world. If you spoke in broad terms and left out specific details you wouldn't know which club was being described. In an alternate universe where only one of those clubs existed people from our universe would think it was their team either Liverpool or Manchester if they heard someone describe it. When you look at it like this, as humans the species likes to quarrel it really is strange.

Then HE walked on with a wonderful suit that seemed to reflect light. I saw The Boss! And then, at 8 eight years old, I passed out in the Stretford End. Tavy@ i hate to say this but i have read alot of football books from players that played in the 1950s to late 1960s and they eventually addmited in there second or third book, when a team dies so young as age 19 like munich 1958 strait away there classesd as the greatest team manchester united have ever had becouse they won the leauge by 11 points and were set to dominate europe. Now for a start they only won the leauge with players coming and going and how can any one say that a team that didnt even play together for more than 4 years be set to dominate europe. So then they were better than real madrid that won the european cup 5 times in a row and with ease. So were was man utd in 1955,56,57, then it really did take george best to win them the cup at only 22 and bobby charlton was by then 32, harry gregg was already replaced by a better alex stepney. And remember these guys wernt passed it at 32 they just wernt good enough. And it cost united and a still 25 year old george best who was the greatest player to touch a ball. The truth, no the 1968 young team like best, kidd, sadler, stiles, stepney, law and an ageing foulkes at 36 and charlton got carried by a young irish genius that God had sent over. His name was George Best.

I think it was too upsetting for him and focusing on football was what he did to get through and honour the memory the players through the club. Money wasn't so great then but it's a shame about the Munich victims families though.

What would he think of today's Premier league with its obsession with tactics and passing for the sake of it. Also all the nonsense stats that Sky Sports put out all the time. Who cares who made the most tackles and interceptions. This man was a genius manager. He built teams sprinkled with bought players who played football the right way.

Well busby plays and captain the scouse team call liverpool. its lfc foundation he introduce at united. Well its busby who made united well its a liverpool player who made united well thats embrassing. Losing records its normal preston was most winner 18 century then huddesfield knock them off perch and then arsenal was most recore winnee then came liverpool then man u was recore winner in 50s to early 60s then liverpool knock off manu off the fuckig perch and then unitee came knock back off record of liverpool after 40 odd years . Well liverpool still most decorated club with 5 european cups and 3 uefa cups and no need go more .man u history and the club history was also part former liverpool player matt busby. Fergie never won conqured europe like paisley did and fagan won european up in his first attempt and rafa too . Man u club record scorer and englane record goalscorer also connected with city of liverpool . Rooney was born in liverpool .

If it was not for Busby English clubs would not have played in the European Cup, he had to fight tooth and nail with the FA for many years for permission to enter English clubs. Also, if it was not for the Munich disaster United would have a much better record in Europe! Plus if FIFA had not had the three foreign player rule in 93/94 season I can't help but think that Fergie just may have had his first European Cup that season!

@@cleehomes so true, so there are people out there that think the same as me. In my opinion the Busby Babe side was the best along with squad players. But for the best 11 playing in a team, Kanchelskis, Giggs, Ince, Keane, Cantona, Hughes, Irwin, Parker, Bruce, Pallister and Schmeichel was the greatest fielded at one time and if we were able to play that team we would have won a European Cup and possibly more than one they were supplimented by some good subs too. If that first 11 played the majority of games history would have been different. If we had the money then we have now we could have kept them all still had English players like Cole etc and rotated better. Shane about the rules though.

But Liverpool would never have had Bill Shankly if Matt Busby became their manager and would never have dominated Europe for a decade (6 titles in just over 10 years). Man Utd didn't knock Liverpool off their perch. Arsenal and Leeds won the League in 1991 and 1992. Man Utd never knocked Liverpool off their European perch. Liverpool STILL remain Britain's most successful ever club to compete in European competion. 5 x European Cup/CL and 3 x UEFA Cup (I won't mention the 3 x Super Cups).

Cameron Burge United won 7 Premier League titles from 1993 to 2001 - 7 in less than a decade. They're also the only English club to have won 3 league titles in a row, and they've done that TWICE (99-01, 07-09). In the 1999-2000 season they won the league by EIGHTEEN points. Both clubs can boast some fantastic managers, players and history. United may have gone on to win European titles had the Munich Air disaster not happened, given what the Busby Babes were already achieving. For a man involved in such horror to rebuild that team almost from scratch to create a European Cup winning side was nothing short of amazing.

Sir Matt made the decision to try a third take off in Munich rather than face the wrath of the FA and lose points. Why did he have to do that and rob us of such talent as Edwards, Pegg, Taylor etc. That must have been with him until he died.

The plane had been chartered and the Captain was acting under the instructions from the club.According to reports, and the film, Matt Busby had tried to extend their stay with the FA but was told that the points would be deducted if they were late home for the Wolves game. If anything some of the blame must go with the FA, Alan Hardaker I believe.

Graham Joinson Passengers don't get to say whether or not a plane can take off. That comes down to the captain and air traffic control. Passengers can ask, but they don't make the final decision. Shame on you for blaming Sir Matt.
