Love his sense of humour. Michael Caine never got big headed but had both feet planted firmly on the ground & always remembered where he came from. The first film I saw him in was Zulu & he was the epitome of British elegance & Aristocracy - one would never have guessed that he was from much more humble beginnings building himself up to be one of the great renowned actors of today.

Both of his books; "What's it all about" & "The Elephant to Hollywood" read just like this interview; just like he's telling it to you over tea & biscuits at the kitchen table after having just dropped by for a chat.

Zulu: my husband liked it and i hated the whole idea and so my son put it in my husband's blazer when he was lying in the funeral home. He was buried with thr film in his jacket pocket. I love Michael caine andhis films in the 1960s. His clothes in the Italian job were the height of fashion. I love that movie so much.

What I say of theater is that" it is an exercise in low self esteem . Which proves I've done it, and I even did a lead part where I had to play to the audience for 50 minutes, which is a lot and I don't have that great a memory and I want rehearsals. If I was to direct either a movie or a theater piece I'd have rehearsals till it was a movie that was flawless. A film, till great performances came easy for all the actors and the crew. I don't know young actors any more and want a great casting director because of that now.
