I used to teach Patrick Spens as poetry in my English lit class. Of course lyric ballads are all meant to be sung, but I could never find a good rendition of Spens. Jesse provides the perfect addition and certainly shows how wonderful the lyric ballad can be.

What a great song! I like the seaside setting, too. :) This sounds pretty much like Anaïs Mitchell and Jefferson Hamer's version...is that where you got it? I haven't found anyone else singing that rendition (though there are quite a few others out there, it seems!)

I mostly know this from Fairport Convention's several recordings--oh and Buffy Sainte-Marie's on her _Little Wheel_ album. Can't think of another cover that I've heard. I like this.
