I have settled on the belief that Shakespeare was no different than a Hollywood producer that buys a “property” and hires one or more writers to re-write it to his specific needs to mount it at The Globe.

Hi Michael, I am a big supporter of Dennis McCarthy’s theory that Thomas North wrote the source plays that were adapted by Shakespeare. At the start of North’s translation of the Moral Philosophy of Doni, there is an Italian sonnet by G.B. But we don’t know to whom these initials refer. Could G.B. refer to novelist and poet Giovanni Battista Giraldi (nicknamed Cinthio)? His Gli Hecatommithi was an Italian source for Othello and Measure for Measure.

Please change the channel and consider some other theories. McCarthy and Blanding are out of their depth and fail to understand even their own evidence.

I can add another to the list of Elizabeths I foreign suitors. Around the year 1570 there were rumors of suitors from Moscow representing Ivan the Terrible king of the Russians. In the Shakespeare* play Loves Labour Lost; where the characters disguise themselves as Moscuvites to woo the hand of the King's daughter. In real life this went badly for England as she rejected his offer of mutual asylum should the Protestant rule go badly for her. (He of course was thinking about her cousin Mary Queen of Scots problems and fleeing between the kingdoms for refuge) Russia cut off the Eastern route to the Orient by way of her rejection forced Elizabeth to look to the WEST and the Americas for wealth. So Loves Labour Lost is another hint that the situation of the 1570s made its way into a later Shakespearian Play.

Or they just dress up as Russians because it's funny.

Why don’t eleven plays suggest Shakespeare wrote that one poem, not North?

There is Irony in this! That the Strafordians believe a Non-Scholar is the true Author of the greatest plays on Earth. But Non-Scholars have no merit in their discourse.

On the contrary, his identification of George North's Discourse on Rebellion and Rebels as a source for 2 Henry VI was hailed as a once-in-a-lifetime discovery.

Actually.. For me the problem deniers have is their arguments are based only on the idea that Shakespeare wasn't a well traveled Aristocrat. People get lost in their proof of their favorite candidate and don't really show any evidence that he couldn't be the author. The argument is not aristocrat so can't be Author . They don't try to reconcile the story origins. Macarthy has a more scientific approach than .. he wasn't an aristocrat or just ignoring the evidence he was a real person. Oh, I forgot the secrete code ..proof? Maybe Shakespeare didn't write his plays... but the preponderance of evidence says he did. Why he is a some what mysterious person is a subject for a different study.

Read that Marlowe was the front until he died - then de Vere and Bacon created Shakespeare

Marlowe was part of the scriptorium and contributed but Devere and he rowed and Devere disowned him.

@@Bigwave2003 Yes, I do know! Because I have spent the last 5 years listening to and reading everything by the late but great Alexander Waugh, who was the definitive scholar on DeVere. If you read what I read you would know too.

As for Marlowe and DeVere, they admired each other immensely as poets but quarrelled persistently over religion. Edward DeVere was a devout Christian, and Marlowe was a humanist, who denounced God. Ultimately it was this that drove Marlowe out. Was he the creator of some of Shakespeare's plays, almost certainly. It's far more likely than a fake Brummie son of a glovemaker, who ended up being a vicious and brutal debt collector.
