I think Allergy is the reality, she's an insecure shy person. Queencard is what Soyeon was dreaming about, what she thought she wanted to be, a "Queen". Waking up from the dream in the end made her realize she didn't need to be a "Queen" via artificial means like the surgery, and that being herself was much better. She just needed to be confident and believe in herself.

yeh, people in the West find her beautiful, but when she was 17 and appearing on competition shows in S. Korea, she was eliminated because the voting public said she was not pretty enough to be a kpop idol. Imagine being 17 years old and being called ugly by literally everyone in the most public way possible. The fact that she eventually became one of the most successful performers and songwriters in the industry is a testament to her incredible character.

Why use a plural 'competition shows' where the only show where her appearance effectively played any sort of role was Produce 101. She did get called too ugly to be an idol online, but those shows are like, VERY focused on visuals, and she still made it to the final because she was still recognized for her talent. But talent is never enough to make it in public-voted idol survival shows. Her next competition was Unpretty Rapstar, and she finished top 3 despite being the youngest participant, and going against actual veterans from the Korean hip hop scene. She did amazing because people aren't going to judge you based on looks in a rap competition.

If you say back in 2016 that Jeon Soyeon would be the biggest breakout star out of that Produce 101 scene, people would certainly laugh at you. Only Soyeon could turn insult into great songs like Uh Oh or Allergy.

The thing is if you remember movies like She's all that and Princess diaries, etc. that's exactly what they were doing. Putting gorgeous actresses in glasses to make us believe they were the ugly duckling of the entire school or something which was so ridiculous lol and then suddenly as soon as the glasses were gone and the girls were put in a tight dress, they were the most stunning girl in the school. I think they may have made a reference to that honestly

I feel Soyeon wrote these songs in relation to her earlier days. Before (G)I-DLE she struggled a lot with her looks because the public constantly called her ugly so she began to believe it and honestly thought she was ugly. But when she started to accept herself and become more comfortable and confident in herself and her looks, believing herself to be beautiful, others began to accept her and call her beautiful as well.

Queen Card occurs when Soyeon is asleep just before starting plastic surgery, in the course of the video she realizes that she doesn't need to change to be happy, that she can be a queen. She eventually wakes up just before the operation start and leaves. Although the scene at the end of it is not clear to me when she looks at her cell phone with photos of the party that she supposedly dreamed of and the likes and messages from people praising her beauty.

That part of the ending is repeating a common movie trope of "it was all just a dream", "... or was it?". The "or was it" part comes when an artifact from the dream bleeds over into reality. This twist has been used many times in Movies and TV.

While going under anaesthetic, she has a dream/vision of becoming one of the `beautiful` people she has been comparing herself to, and realises it isn't for her. This wakes her and she abandons the surgery. Now, when she walks outside, 2 things are true. First, she has been wallowing in self hatred, comparing herself to others. When we think we are undesirable and ugly, its impossible to conceive that everyone else doesn't see us the same way. So, with this veil lifted, she now sees herself truly, and starts to see how others truly see her. People didn't think she was ugly or undesirable at all, she realises people actually like her, she has friends. The other thing that is true is that how we act based on how we see ourselves affects how others interact with us. If you go to a party convinced no one there could be interested in talking to you, you behave in a way that makes this come true. Confidant more comfortable in her own skin she is more attractive to other people, without having to change anything superficial. She now IS the popular girl, just be being true to herself.

SOME people did in fact take it very seriously and there were many discussions plaguing the internet about Soyeon's lyrics again. Even if she said that she'd hope people didn't take it seriously and it was meant to be fun... The internet was... well the internet, but those people exist what can you do? ... I posted on reddit (yes I know) how I thought it was unfortunate people won't give the song a chance because of the lyrics(in response to seeing people trash it) and the fun of it and I got EATEN alive. It's unfortunate people block their own minds out so heavily just to hate, of course you can have criticism and not like things, but its on the same spectrum of just saying something is "bad" and leaving it at that. YOU on the other hand understood almost immediately, your comment on vapid comments of the internet strikes true as it wasn't 10 minutes the song was released the comments were already kicking off! OTHER than that plenty of people understood and enjoyed the music too which is what matters! Amazing reaction as always! ALWAYS excited to see another video from you!! ALSO Popping some glasses on Soyeon and attempting to "be lame" sends me, so good . At the end I believe you're right, it seems she dreamed it all, woke up and decided to not go through with it, but I have NO idea! I thought I knew what I was talking about when New Jeans released Ditto and I was 100000% wrong zz !

That’s pretty much what I was saying. Except in this case it’s an actual story line and they are playing characters. She realized she didn’t want to be like everyone else on social media and decided to not get the surgery.

Yes its a parody and anyone who lived through the teen comedies of the 2000's and 2010's should be able to spot it a mile away. Hell they even directly pulled from White Chicks, itself a parody. I think the issue is this is pretty American centric though so the chance of people missing the parody is not zero.

There's a hilarious scene in Not Another Teen Movie that spoofs the whole "ugly girl played by beautiful actress gets a make over" convention. It amounts to the friend taking the glasses off the "ugly" girl and letting her ponytail out before triumphantly stating "That's it! I did it. I'm a miracle worker."
