"Day and Night" was wrote and composed, and even choreographed by Taemin. When Taemin was selecting songs for this album, he didn't really like any of the songs SM was suggesting for him, so he decided to write a song himself. And "Day and Night" is what he came up with. He happened to be in the middle of a concert tour at this time as well, so he didn't have a whole lot of time to work on the choreography either. However, because it's Taemin, he just decided to wing it, and if you watch several live performances of "Day and Night" you will see that the choreography changes almost every time he performed it. He was still working on the choreography during filming of the MV and even during promotions for the song, so he was continuously tweaking and changing parts of the dance during each performance. I'm not sure if he ever actually finalized the choreography. The MV was filmed in JeJu Island in South Korea. JeJu is considered one of Korea's most beautiful and peaceful vacation spots. So it was fitting that this MV, with such a peaceful and otherworldly feeling, was filmed there.

Taemin filmed both 2 kids and Think of you videos in Paris in early 2020 when he was touring with Super M. He works so hard while working with Super M and also getting ready to released his albums NGDA. Taemin as well as SHINee B-sides are amazing and are as good as the main tittle track. I've been a shawol for over a decade, so I've been with Taemin throughout his whole solo career. While I love almost every song, my absolute favorite song is from his Press it album. It's called soldier and like 2Kids, is sad and beautiful. It was the first song he ever wrote for an album, and I love it so much! It hits a lot harder now that he enlisted, so you should really give it a listen!

"Want" is so much more than people realize. If someone likes Taemin and appreciates his music, they will probably like "Want" for the seductiveness that Taemin is known for. However, for the Taemin fan who appreciates the fact that Taemin links his faith to many of his MVs/songs, it takes on an even deeper, more profound meaning. So, sit back, grab a tea, coffee, or latte and let's dive into this masterpiece: (BTW: Taemin confirmed my analysis on one of his VLIVES this past year when he was asked what the concept of "Want" was. He replied that it was taken from an Old Testament story of the Bible.) Taemin's faith is on full display here, but ingeniously hidden to those who don't subscribe to, or appreciate his worldview. During the introduction phase, we see alluring snippets of Taemin in various poses with snakes and smoke, however, you also see what looks like pools of blood (Christ was the ultimate sacrificial lamb whose blood covers the sins of the world). Taemin opens the MV by dancing in slow, hypnotic, snake-like movements. Snakes/Serpents, which represent the idea of the tempter in the Bible, (in the ancient Hebrew - which derives from Akkadian & Ugarit - the word "snake/serpent" ["nchsh"]), used in this particular way grammatically in Gen. 3, is a triple entendre meaning "divine shining being". The snake was ancient iconography denoting spiritual/godly figures. Eve wasn't talking with a snake, but an angel or some other divine shining being. Gardens and mountains were typical metaphors for where gods dwelt because gardens were rare and mountains were mostly inaccessible to ancient peoples of that time period. When trying to interpret the Bible, it's VERY IMPORTANT to leave your 21st Century glasses on the table and look at the wording and imagery from the ancient Israelites' perspective and the language, culture, and history of that time period - from the second millennial BC up through the 1st Century AD. Things don't mean what you think they do now. God chose a specific people, at a specific time and place to reveal himself. He had to use their understanding to make himself clear -- not the understanding of 21st Century thinking. The magnifying glass forces us to focus on him, and only him, up close and personal. Look nowhere else, see how beautiful and alluring I am. The glowing, bright white shirt Taemin wears fits in perfectly with the symbolism for "shining" and "the light". The chief adversary of Christ, was Lucifer (MEANING: "Light Bearer", or "The Shining One"). As I explained earlier - divine shining being. Thus I wouldn't be surprised that this part of his wardrobe was very intentional. Taemin is all about the little details. Lucifer was supposedly the most beautiful angel....until he fell. (The word "satan" is a misnomer which actually means "messenger" in the ancient Hebrew/Aramaic, as in the incident with Job. It was actually a job description which became a proper noun later during the intertestamental period and then appeared in the NT.). In addition there are creepy demonic-looking beings around him at certain points when you slow it down. Although he's beautiful, he's hiding his demonic side in order to draw you in....a wolf in sheep's clothing. Just before the bridge, there is a brief shot of a neon red/orange cross behind him, and he mimics the posture of Christ on the cross (which is a signature pose for him as you've noticed in many of his dance postures). In another scene, during the bridge, Taemin is elevated above the snakes and calls them to him because he's their father - the father of lies. The tempter in the garden was a master at twisting the truth, which lured Eve to sin, and she then led Adam to do the same. Behind him is a photo of him with his eyes covered: see no evil here, just gaze at my beauty and listen to what I say. People are blinded by beauty and ignore inconvenient truths. It's more important to satisfy your own desires than to act on truth. You also get a visual of a solar eclipse. Again a reference to Christ's death on the cross, as there was (according to both the Bible and present day astronomers) a solar eclipse when Christ died on the cross. Even the lyrics reflect this theme: "The minute you take me in you'll be wanting more," in other words an addiction is formed. "....The sweetness of the forbidden apple...," tastes good, but once you get a little taste of sin, that which is forbidden, you'll want more and more because it "...awakens your senses," (in the Bible, when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they became aware of the "knowledge of good and evil") and you will continually "...thirst for more." He'll "....wake you up from the silence of your deep sea." In ancient biblical times, the "sea" was a metaphor for chaos, because it couldn't be controlled. People were afraid of it because it was mysterious; you couldn't see beneath the surface; many died in it's chaotic waters. This is why the Bible (in Revelation) says there will be no more seas = no more chaos. When Adam and Eve were awakened to knowledge of good and evil, chaos ensued upon the Earth. He'll "help you see a new world," but is this really a good new world when innocence is stripped from you? "I'm your toy, I'll make you innocent." Most toys appear innocent and signify the innocence you had as a young child, but the apple (forbidden fruit; actually scholars aren't sure what fruit it was) looked innocent too and "appeared" good to eat. Many poisonous things appear beautiful and delectable but those very qualities lure the unsuspecting victim to their death. Sin numbs you to immorality (truths become lies an vice-versa) and turns it into something "sweet" to the point it's justified and then those who can still see the corruption, try to warn people, or don't themselves partake of that sin, are shunned. It was the serpent who distorted the truth and tempted with the one "forbidden apple" rather than the other trees with acceptable fruit. Sin invades so slowly, so subtly and satisfies your cravings to the point that you don't even realize it's happening until you're already addicted to it and scales form over your eyes (which were considered one of the ways to discern knowledge), and you have no clue because you're "...relying on your own self-control...moved by your body's and soul's" dark desires. The tempter says, "Open your eyes (to me. says Lucifer). What do you want? I'LL MAKE YOU REALIZE WHAT YOU NEVER KNEW." Exactly. Adam and Eve never knew sin, until the tempter tricked them and revealed all and after that, humanity has always wanted more. Temptation gives birth to greed, lust, jealousy....all the 7 deadly sins. Before you know it, you have been gently and seductively led right to Rodin's famous "Gates of Hell" sculpture at the end of the MV. You are left with a choice: 1) Embrace the sin and willingly go through those gates (Adam and Eve were kicked out of the garden because they chose sin and God appointed Cherubim with swords of flame to guard the gates of Eden so no one could ever enter again. However, you can choose to enter the gates of Hell), or wash yourself clean in pure (holy) water (Christ promised to gift us with living water -- which was himself; his blood.), and there's only one way to do that - by believing in and accepting Christ as your savior. I'm sure there's probably much more that I've missed. You can see how Taemin's lyrics can be interpreted simply as they appear, or once you study the meticulous details that Taemin is famous for infusing into his work, you may find a message that's a little uncomfortable for some and more than you bargained for...lol. BTW: Some of my favorite Taemin B-sides are: "Impressionable", "Strings", "Identity", "Heaven", "Mystery Lover", "Eclipse", "Rise", "Love", and, of course, "Under My Skin" and "Monologue". He was in Paris, because he filmed the 2 MVs during or after the Super M tour. Bside recommendation: Strings, Adlready, one bye one, black Rose . A Lot more, because his album tracks are REALLY good. You could do album listenings and would not regret it. Live Performance: Slave, Sexuality, drip drop with Seulgi, Door, Rise, Heaven , Famous, Danger×Sherlock, Mama performances from him were all really good, Soldier × Press your number (performed during Shinee concert), im crying( Arena tour), perhabs Love, hypnosis To be honest his solo concerts from first song till last song, are so so good. They are must watch, if you ask me.

Taemin's "Want" is one of those songs that the lyrics take the song and performance up to the next level. :D The lyrics give the song and performance a whole other feel and it helps to explain the images and story you see being told in the MV. Many people think that "Want" has a vampire vibe, and I can see where some might get the vampire feel from this MV. After all, one of Taemin's nicknames is SHINee's eternal vampire because in some performances and MVs, the way he looks and the aesthetic of the performance gives him a vampire image. However, in "Want" Taemin is supposed to be portraying Lucifer. That's why he seems to have a love affair with those snakes. (The ones he is holding are real snakes.) And, like Lucifer, he is supposed to be seducing the audience and the girl using his devilish powers. Taemin is Catholic, and most of this MV showcases his faith as it tells the story using numerous Biblical references. Fun fact: That's not just any female dancer. The female dancer that you see highlighted in the MV is Yoo JiMin (Karina) who is the leader and main dancer of aespa. She participated in this song as a rookie trainee even before aespa's debut. (She was a trainee for about 7 years.) She also participated in some live performances of "Want." The style and aesthetic in "Want" is just the kind of vibe we have all come to expect from Taemin. He has a very sensual/sexy way of moving and, as a soloist, it's kind of his signature thing.That is why all his songs are titles such as "Danger," "Soldier" "Sexuality," "Tiger," "Press Your Number," "Guess Who," "Mystery Lover," "Hypnosis," "Crazy 4 U," "Flame of Love," " Under My Skin," "Thirsty," "Want," "Criminal," etc. or "Ace," "Already", "Door, "Pretty Boy," "Move" "Artistic Groove," "Famous," "Idea," etc. Each song is meant to show you exactly why he is one of the best in the industry even just by their titles. I find it interesting that all of his songs, with the titles alone, tell you exactly what Taemin is all about. If you look at all the titles of his songs, you will see that the titles convey one of two things about him, either painting a picture of his sexy and sensual onstage personality, or they explain his dedication and passion as an artist. The way Taemin dances is just the way he moves. His movements are effortless. However, you will see that it will always be very Taemin-like. Many choreographers who have worked with him over the years have said that, with Taemin you can't help but allow him to move in whatever way his body takes him. Taemin is art in every sense of the word. :D Taemin's style of dance can't be defined. As he has said, he has worked his entire career to create a style of dance that is unlike anything in the Kpop industry. And I would argue that that now extends to the entire industry of dance. Taemin started out as a self-taught popper and locker without any dance training, and, even then, as a trainee it was clear his skills as a dancer went far beyond the average dancer. (He started out by copying dancers that he saw on TV such as Michael Jackson and Kpop star Bi Rain. And he didn't have any formal training until he joined SM. As trainees, SM originally planned to make SHINee a hip-hop group, so Taemin's dance training started out focusing on hip-hop dance styles like popping and locking.) However, over the years, as you see with "Want," he has infused those popping and locking skills into his now more contemporary style of dance. But, when it comes to dancing, he can do it all and there is no one better at it than him. If you like his dancing in the MV, you have to see his "Want" dance practice video to really understand how intricate and breathtaking Taemin is with this choreography. No one moves the way Taemin does.

"2 Kids" is the first part of Taemin's 3rd Korean solo album called Never Gonna Dance Again. It is part of a trilogy which started with his prologue "2 Kids," and continued with "Criminal" which is part of Act 1 of the album. "Idea" is part of Act 2 of the album and it brings the whole concept full circle. As mentioned previously, Taemin said in an interview: "The two acts put together tell a story. ‘2 Kids’ is about growing pains and depicts the story prior to the story in the album. You can think of '2 Kids' as a teaser before the movie called 'Never Gonna Dance Again.' Act 1 shows a new side of me. I think it’ll be something you’ve never seen in K-pop before. And Act 2 is the end-all-be-all. It’s the ultimate level of intensity. Never Gonna Dance Again’ was originally the name of the concept. Because it doesn’t make sense for me to stop dancing. But I wanted to give a sense of rebellion with the irony of the title.” "2 Kids" is about reflecting on a past dating relationship and realizing that in hindsight, now that you are older and have a little distance from the situation, you realize you handled things all wrong. Being young, dumb and naive you let small things ruin what could have been something great. And now that he is older and has more life experience, he wishes that they had never broken up and that he had handled things differently. The song isn't about any one person in particular, it's about life and young love in general. "2 Kids" sounds happy even though it's a sad song because it's a metaphor for how you may look happy and fine on the outside, but inside you are in pain and suffering, beating yourself up with regrets, etc. (He is beating himself up as part a the metaphor in the song, no one beat him up except himself.) The happy tune is masking the true sadness of the songs message. If you pay attention to the lyrics, "2 Kids" is all about how Taemin is in pain, saying, we were too young and dumb and we let things get in the way ... I should have just stuck it out a little longer. (In other words, why did I act so rashly and breakup with you over things that I now see, in hindsight, were so trivial?, etc.) Leave me alone, I deserve to be in pain and live with the guilt and regret that I feel, etc. He looks injured and beat up because he is metaphorically beating himself up emotionally and he is physically beating himself up because he is in pain and he is just blindly going through life since the breakup. If you notice, even the choreography is showing him being beat up by an invisible force. He is rolling around on the ground and can barely stand up at times because he is in so much emotional pain, etc. Which is all kind of funny because the whole reason why the comeback for "2 Kids", which was supposed to happen in July last year, was postponed for a month until August was because he injured his wrist while dancing. So he really did beat himself up for this MV. :D And although they did create choreography for "2 Kids," Taemin said most of the dance in the MV ended up being freestyle. If you watch the behind the scenes video for "2 Kids", you will see this was all filmed in one day in Paris in February 2020, right before the pandemic shut everything down. The shot where he is suspended in the air, was him in the middle of the street being hoisted up on wires. And the part where he is dancing in the middle of the town square the people you see in the background walking around him were people just taking their kids to school and going to work that morning. In "2 Kids" he was emotionally and physically beating himself up with regrets and, as you saw in "Criminal," he was living in a toxic relationship and being brainwashed to the point he was suffering from stockholm syndrome; he fell in love with the person (or thing -- i.e. his career) who is essentially inflicting all the pain and suffering on him. So in other words, even though you are being abused by that person (possibly a metaphor for the pressure he is creating for himself) he still can't help but love them and allow them to continue to hurt you, etc. :D "Idea" takes the theme one step further, and says that even though it was my idea and my plan to live this life, nothing comes without a price, and because of that need for perfection, any chance of being average or living a regular life is pretty much dead. Taemin has sacrificed everything to become the magnificent and unique performer and person that we know him as today.

Welcome to the duality that is Taemin. "Think of You" is the perfect example of what makes Taemin special. This is the Taemin you will see if you get to know him off stage. He is cute and innocent and a little shy. This is just Taemin being Taemin. What you saw is the definition of SHINee's maknae, and is exactly why he gets away with so much in SHINee. When around the other members of SHINee he plays up being the baby, and they pretty much will do anything he asks. He knows how to be cute when he wants something, but he hates it when someone asks him to be cute. LOL. You now have a glimpse of the other side of Taemin and are discovering what makes him so lovable. :D "Think of You" is a special fan tribute song and it's just Taemin's way of giving love back to his fans. The whole video was filmed with the intent to create this MV, it's all part of the theme of the song. It is meant to have more of a documentary-style look and it was intended to feel more intimate like we were just hanging out and following him around for the day. The song is written by Taemin and it's about asking fans to continue to support and love him and it talks about how he looks to us to embrace him and giving him comfort, especially in those moments when he feels lonely and sad, and in turn he wants us to feel like we have his love and support when we are feeling down and alone. (You really need to look up the lyrics to appreciate the message he is giving us fans.) You also might notice -- from the setting of this video and Taemin's blond hair -- that "Think of You" was filmed in the same location, at the same time as "2 Kids", which was shot in Paris in February 2020. They were both shot in between promotional activities while he was on tour with SuperM. Taemin never stops. Fun fact: He has released at least one song (Usually way more than just one) or album every year since SHINee's debut in 2008, either as part of SHINee, as a member of a project group or as a solo artist. Taemin has said that he really has never taken a true vacation since he was a trainee -- he started with SM Entertainment when he was around 11 years old -- and he doesn't know what to do if he isn't constantly working and training. Even on his days off he usually goes to the studio to practice. As he has said, there has never been anything that has come easy to him and he has only gotten to where he is today because he has worked hard to accomplish everything. He is constantly pushing himself to become the best of the best in everything he does.

Taemin’s b-sides are absolutely amazing, next level stuff! Actually if you don’t know his b-sides you don’t know a whole side of him - deep, nostalgic, romantic, genuine and very emotional. Day And Night was his creation - he wrote the song and recorded it in a span of literally days, that’s why the MV is so simple - cause they didn’t have time to make something fancy. It’s beautiful live - I loved how he did it on his TMI concert together with Never Forever, which is another song with gorgeous acoustic guitar. Want needs no comment - it’s just pure seduction king Taemin, who is a master of his craft and a destroyer of our hearts and souls. And then we have 2 Kids, which you loved so much (I totally feel you, this song is super special - was my most listened to song of 2020 on Spotify). He did write the lyrics and I feel like it’s very personal to him (although he only said it’s about his kindergarten love, but I guess we all knew he wasn’t serious about this explanation…). He shoot the MV while touring Europe with SuperM back in early 2020 and while being there he also made a surprise video which was Think Of You - later released as a gift to his fans. It looks overwhelmingly cute, but actually if you read the lyrics (especially knowing what he’s going through right now) it makes you realize how fragile and vulnerable he really is and how he needs love and support from people around him… Thank you for this reaction, I would love it if you did another video with Taemin’s b-sides - listening to them with lyrics. There’s so many amazing songs Jjakgoongs could recommend. Clockwork is an absolute masterpiece and then there’s Sad Kids, which is also beautiful. If you’ll listen to more of his b-sides you’ll realize that braking up, longing, regret and reminiscing a relationship that didn’t go right is a common theme of his songs.

Great Taemin B-sides, oh man where to begin. There are a couple songs that were made into beautiful VCRs like Stone Heart, Just Me and You and Back to You. Black Rose is phenomenal, and the stage performance is a must see. The choreo is superb. Heaven, Shadow and Identity are lovely vocally. Into the rhythm, Light and Artistic Groove are super funky and catchy. Slave, Tease, Holy Water, Exclusive, Strings, Sexuality and Play Me are super horny songs but they're nice. Taemin has a huge discography, and he really doesn't have any that flop. He is pretty thirsty though, so be prepared for more sexy music.💕🔥🎵🎶🎧🔥💕

He has incredible b-sides. SHINee's solo discographies are just flawless. Like so f good. I always love their b-sides more than title tracks I strongly recommend his whole Never Gonna Dance Again albums especially (Criminal, Idea, Black Rose, 2 kids, Think Of You are from them). But all his albums are great (Move, Press It, Taemin, Advice - cheff's kiss) Live performances recommendations: Soldier & Rise, Love (the vocals are insane), Black Rose (another great b-side with beautiful choreography), Eclipse, Shadow, Play Me

Thank you for this! We are missing him and worried for him so much 💖 I hope he's doing better. But yes all of his B-sides are great and I don't say that lightly haha, I've never heard a Taemin song I don't like, that's how he became my bias. I actually find the Think Of You the saddest song funnily enough, maybe because I relate to it most, but I'm glad he made the video warm and sweet to balance it out and make us feel special. Want is definitely one of my favourite song and mvs for sure! I was so obsessed when it came out. Also, Thirsty Thursdays NEEDS to happen!

It is really hard for me to pick a single favorite Taemin song but my top 3 are: Criminal, Want, and Pinocchio. His 'Think of You' MV perfectly showcases the reasons why I came to love him so much and why he is my ult for life. As sexy as Taemin can be, my first introduction to him was him on a variety show (Knowing Bros/ Men On A Mission 2016) with the rest of SHINee. I absolutely adored his smile, how polite and respectful yet funny he was, how he seemed so shy and quiet at times but goofy and dorky depending on who he was interacting with. That was what made me want to get into his and SHINee's music. I already knew of him and the rest of SHINee at that point, I knew how big of a deal they were, and I had definitely heard about how Taemin was like the MJ of Korea that even other idols looked up to and howo he inspired so many other idols. To see this man who was spoken of as if he were a God (which he def is in my book) being a cute, sweet, shy, little baby with the biggest smile just threw me WAY off-guard. I was like hold up.... THIS is the legendary Taemin?! He barely even looked like an adult to me so I was like HOW. Then I went on KZbin and watched 'Criminal' and was like WTF that is NOT that same person. I've been whipped for him since that day and I'm not even mad about it. I do believe the smoke was just water vapor.

Want is one of my most favorite Taemin songs, it hypes me up so much and the music video is absolutely gorgeous. The symbolism and ties to dark christian ideology painting Taemin as the embodiment of temptation itself is a top tier concept that only Taemin could pull off. Almost every stage of Want is pure art, though the best live stage imo is from the Dream concert. As for your recommendations for thirsty Thursday I would highly recommend: Taemin's "Slave" performance, Jonghyun's "Moon" performance, SHINee's "Dynamite" performance (SHINee world IV- Tokyo Dome), Key's "Helium" performance, Taemin's "Heaven" performance, Taemin's "Sexuality" performance, Jonghyun's "Crazy" music video, Jonghyun's "Hallelujah" performance, Key's "Chemicals" performance, Key's "Good Good" performance and Jonghyun's b-side "Cocktail".

Austin, thank you for another Taemin reaction💙. Fun fact - when they were filming Want he got asked if he is scared of snakes and wether he feels nervous filming with them. Taemin said he really doesn't mind them. He also added that one of the snakes he was filming with got cold and tried to go up his sleeves and into his clothes and he found that really cute and adorable (me: absolutely terrified with snakes just in disbelief he finds them adorable😅). On the other hand though when asked what he was afraid of - bugs, insects - he really freaks out around them😅. I'd take a bug over a snake any day😅
