The 70s Jazz that Marcus is famously associated with is a 4 string. Fender didn't make a 5 string bass with a low B string until the 90s.

Marcus Miller's original Jazz Bass was a standard 4-string Fender '75 with a Sadowsky pre-amp installed later on, if I remember correctly. That's the natural finish one with black pickguard. Definitely a 4-string! His Fender Signature Jazz Bass was also made in a 5-string version, though.
@vesper44993 жыл бұрын
Not sadowsky preamp, I believe it was a bartolini preamp installed by roger sadowsky.
@thedondeluxe69413 жыл бұрын
@@vesper4499 Oh yeah, that's what it was. Great sounding bass!
@jmclen73 жыл бұрын
You're correct. 5 string basses, as we know them, weren't even made until the early 1980s. There were a couple of 5 string models out there with different (higher) tunings. I believe Anthony Jackson and Jimmy Johnson both get credit for the whole 5 string bass thing. Also yeah, that first preamp Roger installed was a Bartolini. I do believe he later installed his own model, but I'm not sure. Whatever it is, it sounded a lot better than what Fender used. I once got to demo a used Fender MM bass with a Bartolini preamp next to a brand new Fender and the used one had a much more musical high end. These Sires replicate that very well IMO.

Marcus Miller primarily plays on his signature modified vintage 4 string bass which fender made a production model of it, and later made a 5 string version.

I think they need a P5. Passive P bass with roasted maple. Similar to what they did with the V5. Keep it around $500, and you will sell a ton. Would also love it if they went with a Fender standard type bridge with the 5 holes.
@latenight58653 жыл бұрын
I agree with your suggestion on P5; I've been playing P10 since last week, and I definitely love it, but the sound doesn't seem to be that much dramatically different from P7, as the difference between V7 and V10.

@@andertons I have to intervene here, Marcus never played the p7/p10 yet on a professional gig. It’s not his sound so to speak. Also, the video shows he’s using the Sire V7 occasionally. In this case the first generation Sire.

True. Better get a p7 5 string and replace the weak Sire bridge pickup with a solid Lollar bridge pickup. Saves you much money and sounds better than P10 5 string that way.
