Just picked one of these up today, I wasn't even intending to get one as I dont care for signature/artist basses or active controls, but its an incredible bass for the money. Once I figured out what all the knobs did, I couldn't believe the variety of tones and the preamp is killer. The pickups are excellent as well. Thin body, decent weight, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard with rolled edges (one of the nicest and most comfortable necks Ive ever played) bone nut, steel bridge...this thing is a steal for $399. Thats only $100 more than the junk Squier Affinity basses sell for. The V3 is better than any MIM Fender Ive owned or played and darn close to American made Fenders that sell for 4 times as much. I have zero complaints, awesome bass.

I'm not a bass player at all. But today I went out to get a cheap bass for recording. I compared an Ibanez Gio, a Squier P-bass, a Fender P-bass (out of my budget) and this Marcus Miller Sire. For my ears, this bass was the best, played the best, and was the most versatile (which I want for recording). I'm very happy with my purchase.

I am a HUGE Sire fan, having bought a P7 fretless about 5 months back - its now my main bass, beating out Modern Player Fenders, and even an Aerodyne Jazz too. Part of that is me falling in love with fretless, but a huge part of it is the love for the model itself. I play it straight passive (using the preamp only for solo sections, with a preset treble and upper mid boost), and it DELIVERS. The tuners on the 7 models are definitely better than the lower level models, nd theres zero neck dive, so I believe (as you say) these are the key 'cut corners' on the lower end models. If anyones considering a Sire, I would highly highly advise that you get one!

I have owned the series 1 v7's and v3's and just bought the v3 series 2 and it really good. For the money it knocks squier VM into its place (which i have also owned) and i have to say with a few mods the v3 is the one. I replaced the bridge with a fender hi mass. Drilled holes right at the back of the channels and drilling the standard 5 screw pattern its just works. I will be updating the tuners soon just because, they aren't so bad but aren't so good either. I have followed sire with interest and cant really see the point of the uber expensive v9 , v10's

Nice demo. I've been a Sire fanboy since I first purchased my V7 back in 2015 for $399. Nice to see they're back to offering an affordable model again, because prices have been creeping up. At one point, I had 3 Sires (Original V7, V7 vintage, and V7 fretless). Sold the fretless and original V7 and only have the V7 vintage now, my #1 gigging bass. I've been on the fence about whether or not to get the 2nd gen. model because there are a few things that I like and don't like about them. Like: rolled fretboard? (Not sure I care, as I never had any issues with the original V7 neck fretwork), punchier PUPs (definitely hear it), more color options, weight (they can run on the heavy side, my V7 was 10lbs). Don't like: higher price point on a V7 (so maybe a V3 is the ticket?), wooden battery compartment/pain in the ass to have to remove cover screws to replace batteries (the original two plastic flip up ones were junk, but I replaced mine for a couple I got on Amazon for $10 and they work fine), bridge: my original V7 came with an excellent heavy mass bridge. I see they're only using those on their higher end models now. Input jack: I had two die on me. But overall, there's no better active J made at this price point.

Always love your reviews. I have a new D5 4string (8lbs 2 ounces) and a new Sire V3 5 string (that weighs 7lbs 6 ounces?!?!?!) , and the tuners on both seem good to me, smooth and so far they hold well. Maybe they addressed that issue? I think the V3 body is mahogany. I dislike saying this but facts are facts; I've been playing Fender basses my entire life and Sire is kicking the new Fenders all over the field. This bass is tight! $469 ?!?!?!?!?! It literally rivals my former music man stingray special ($2400). BTW it's passive which I prefer. I've joined the Sire revolution. MY old Fenders can stay home now. Also; check out an MVP4-62...fantastic vintage style bass.

Just got the 5 string version of this today for 200 dollars and only few days owned prior to me buying it for about a month and the bass feels great and sounds great so far. I'm a guitarist who just got my first bass and wondering how I should go about prolonging the battery life. Should I keep the jack unplugged when I'm not using it or should I just put it back to passive mode while keeping the cable plugged? Been playing guitar for about 15 years at this point but never ever had used anything with battery in my life so I'd appreciate it if someone can shed light on this for me. Thank you. The real weakness in the Sires is in the truss rod. Strips out and you really need to be aware of the humidity. Changes in the neck are pretty drastic plus the frets will start to stick out cutting the crap out of your hand. I had the frets filed on mine, the neck and bridge adjusted. Sold that sucker as soon as I got home. The five strings might do a little better but if you’re going to turn on the heat or air and have your bass out it would be much better to keep it in a hard case. I should also mention that I had a $2700 Mike Lull bass with medium strings on it. Tbe truss rod would not straighten the neck. Even with taking all the tension off the neck and clamping it down for two days wouldn't fix it. The only thing left to do would be to have the neck steamed. I which I had paid the extra $100 for the quarter sawn neck.

Hey Rumblin, just bought this bass and it is great! My question to you is, How are the tuners different from vintage Fender? I don't get it... We put up with loosely goosey tuners on a vintage instrument but the Sire (identical to some Fender iterations) we call " pretty terrible ". I am going to buy some Musiclily as a backup. Jonathan
@RumblinMan
@RumblinMan 2 жыл бұрын
The tuners on the Sire V3 really do suck. They’re cheaply made and don’t tune very accurately. So much so that I have upgraded to a set of Guykers. Fender’s hardware is just better, period, than that of the lower-end Sire’s (though I can see upgrading on Mexican Fenders). The REAL vintage reissue Fender tuners are my favorite - you know, the reverse-gear ones.

shardnz thanks Sean! Always a blessing to hear from you. This bass vs. the Classic Vibe bass is a tough call, because they are both good products. You would find better hardware on the Classic Vibes, but better electronics in these. Another thing to note is that the Classic Vine necks are finished in gloss, and these necks are finished in satin. All a matter of preference, and definitely a tough call! God bless you brother and thank you for the prayers!
@jonhmusic423
@jonhmusic423 4 жыл бұрын
I've played both a lot - as RM says, personal preference is huge - the Sires are much more modern focussed, while the CVs are much more vintage focussed. If you dig satin necks, huge active sounds and a more modern approach, go Sire - for glossed necks with more of a vintage rumble go CV. Both feel great, both are fantastic value - as RM says, hardware on these lower models is worse than the CV stuff, but the electronics are arguably better - if you can, I'd suggest a V7, as most of the V3's issues are dealt with

The v7 construction is more solid, like a fender J from the 70. You can´t complain when you get this kind stuff for your money. In the 60 an 70 you could get a fender for about 250 buks. Does this sound close to a fender american jazz bass?

Yes. And if you want, you can always put Fender pickups in it.

I bought the V10 and returned it. It was neck diving like crazy. I hated it.

Sire v3 or Sterling MM 25 or Squier jb vintage modified?
@RumblinMan

Matias Ovando Sire V3 wins, in my opinion. It’s the most versatile.

Owning candy apple vm jb and the v3, V3 kills it tonally with its versatility and neck feel. Squier is substantially heavier and feels a lot more solid but the neck is lacquer finish as opposed to bare on the sire. Completely down to opinions but they both cost me $600aud new and for a gigging instrument, neck feel and versatility, I'd choose the sire. As a recording, standard old jazz bass sound, I'd choose the the squier.

It almost sounds like the E string and even the A are a bit quieter than the D and G. ... Is it a set up problem or something else?

Those kinds of issues are normally fixable quite easily by adjusting the pickup height and angle under the strings :)

@@rafender07 I used to have the Classic Vibe 60’s P Bass and absolutely loved it. The Jazz is really good too. I would actually recommend the Squier more than the V3, unless you really want active electronics. In terms of sound, it’s hard to beat Sire.
