Just received my new P7 4 string today. Similar to yours but in a natural finish. That P pickup is really good as you've shown in your video. Amazing value and the fit, finish and setup on mine was perfect. It also weighs in at 3.9kg so not too heavy. Thanks for the great demo! Definitely the best Sire demo on KZbin! Can you tell me about the necks on the P vs the V - are they both slim Jazz-style necks? I don't have the biggest hands so have veered towards slim neck basses like my Ibanez SR300 or Yamaha TRBX504. My first bass was a cheap P copy, I miss it's tone, but not it's tree trunk slab of a neck! Really liking the idea of the P7 at the moment tonally...
@AdamR4 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Yeah the P7 neck is pretty much a Jazz Bass neck. The V7 Vintage also has a jazz neck, however has a more 'U-shaped' style profile, so it certainly has a chunkier feel to it. They are both comfortable to play. If you want that fast slim neck, then I would advise you go for a P7, or if you want the Jazz variation, the standard V7 - that model has a thinner neck than the V7 Vintage. The P7 has got so much tone with a great 'thud' to it and the playability is perfect for me personally. Its a great bass with quite a scope of tonal options.
@alwAudio4 жыл бұрын
@@AdamR Thanks for the quick answer! I use my Yamaha with flatwounds and the Ibanez with roundwounds for rockier stuff, but it doesn't cut through with the punch of a P bass. It looks like the Ibanez is going to get replaced! Something new to play with while I'm waiting for the Sire U5 to become available, I've fancied a short scale bass for a while, Sire seem to be doing some amazing stuff for great prices.

Thanks man, well traditionally a P Bass can be great for rock and offers a lot of bass which you can certainly feel! If you want a bit more mids present a jazz bass is a good option. However the P7 offers a lot of those tones. If you are after that full on Jazz bass tone, then that is the way to go. Both very versatile but with differences. I would seriously recommend trying them both out. Have another listen to the tone of the basses in the video again, especially when I'm using both pickups to try and figure out the range of sonic possibilities you are after.

Excellent playing and comparison. I play a V7 vintage and it's my main gigging bass.(I did replace the stock Pups for Dimarzio Model J DP123s, and it's a beast now). With Sire's active preamp, there's no sound I can't get. I have tried to like PJ basses, and I just don't, regardless of the manufacturer. In theory, you think you're getting the best of both worlds, and they end up falling short, IMO, never really nailing an authentic J or P sound. Fingerstyle with both PUPs on is OK, but I truly hate the slap tone of a PJ (which you didn't demo here). The only time I dig it is when companies reverse the P PUP, as on a Warwick Streamer or Spector. Anyway, I'm sticking with my V7. Thanks.

Is there any reason why V7 bridge pickup is different from P7 one ? Love the P-bass!)
@AdamR4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the bridge pickup on the V7 is further towards the bridge - 70's style. The P7 has the most common or 60's style pickup spacing, with the bridge pickup slightly closer to the neck pickup. The 70's spacing is a little thinner sounding when using just he bridge pickup, maybe a few more mids, and the 60's is perhaps a little more balanced and full.
@alexal97364 жыл бұрын
