As the happy owner of an 8-year-old Squier Affinity Jazz Bass V (similar to the one you used in the video), I can say that it is a great instrument for what it costs and what it delivers. Everyone who listens to its sound is amazed by the pure jazz bass timbre, without that "colored sound" characteristic that some active basses deliver. I've already tested some basses in the same price range and they all left something to be desired at some point. It's an instrument that will stay with me for a long time (proof of this is that I bought another bass and, even so, I didn't get rid of it). Congratulations on the review, and it's great to know that you're also a Squier enthusiast.

I think V7 is clearer and brighter, moderner sound vs squier (little dull). Both are great basses though but V7 sounds more musically for me. It approaches sound of high level bass. Personnally I choosed recently a V7 2nd gen and this video confirms my choice. Versatility and "open sound". V7 breathes. Smooth and vintage tone. Everything I was searching for. Mine was very very good in term of finition and settings (wonderful / action). (Tobacco Sunburst)

You're right about the Sire specs. Sounds very good, versatile sound, more professionnal bass than the Squier. I 've kept the Squier because the neck is very thin and smooth, sounds like a jazz bass. So thank you for your comment and have fun with your Sire V7 !

@NelsonMontana12342 жыл бұрын
On the surface, the Sire seems to be the better deal. But having owned both for a while, I came to a different conclusion. The SIre is more modern and hotter but it's not really a J bass. " The Squier is a Fender. It sounds and plays like a Fender. (Maybe not like a GREAT American Fender, but close). You might be able to compare the Sire to the Fender Marcus Miller which is a specific sound. But it's that one sound. The Sire is also heavy and less balanced. (Due to that big ugly headstock). The Sire's are a bit more consistent whereas with the Squiers you may have to try a few to get a good one. I prefer the 70's models. They're fantastic. I think the final decision should come down to what feels better in your hands.

Just curious. Of everyone here that prefers the Squier; What styles of music do you usually play/listen to?
@DropD4 жыл бұрын
For my own, I play and listen a lot of styles (Metal, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Fusion, Movie soundtracks...) It's not really for the sound but for the playability in general. The Squier gives me a better feeling (lightweight, slim neck, easier controls).
@Geetarhed4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, have also the V7 Jazz first generation Sire, too heavy so recently bought the gen2 P7, better weight but while in the shop tried a Squier Classic Vibe 70's jazz bass which I had previously tried in Singapore a few years back. Nicer neck profile and overall sound from the Squier to my ears. Play motown, jazz, funk and classic rock with a few guys. Perhaps I'll grow to use the P7 but it falls short in comparison. Using an Eden WT500 and LM Mark2 head with either golight or mark bass cabs.

Your favorite. Why?

My favorite is the Squier : great price, lighter, slim neck, the B string sounds better, just pickups are less precise.... The Sire it's a beautiful bass, better woods, pickups, many options (passive/active, rolled fingerboard) but more heavy, the neck profile is bigger, more fret buzz in the higher notes and looks cheap in details (knobs, fret work). Personnally, not my bass.

I still will say Sire basses because of the preamp and pickups that it has on the instrument. On Squier basses it is usually passive and not active unless it's the Contemporary series.
