This thing is pretty impressive, just needs a SCAR/BCAR port. If Siren really wants to cement themselves in the foam blasting space, they need accuracy as well as raw power. Also, an improvement to the general aesthetic and ergonomics would be good. It seems Siren is so afraid of looking "real-steel" that they are kind of shooting themselves in the foot when it comes to comfort and ease-of-use, which can sometimes make the difference in a game setting. Otherwise, they have some serious potential and I'm looking forward to see what they put out next!

My guess is that, because the brand is leaning on being the hardest-hitting off the shelf brand, they are probably (IMO rightfully!) spooked about making their blasters look anything like real weapons. It’s a tough needle to thread. On the one end, if you try too hard to be edgy and you’ll sound like some DeviantArt Sonic OC and drive fans away for being too try-hard; on the other end, you’ll become a lightning rod for Moms Against Nerf Guns because 8 y/o Mavyryck shot his sister Kynslyeigh in the eye with your 260 fps off the shelf blaster.

The biggest issue with Siren is their absurdly bad quality control. The aesthetics are primarily because of strict laws around toy blasters in New York, where NSI is based out of.

I attempted to open the Maulr up and didn't have much luck. I did find the partially hidden screw but the shell just didn't want to open. Didn't want to risk damaging it so just buttoned it up and will wait to see if the community has better luck. And no, there is no pic rail under the foregrip.

It's crazy how the hobby has gotten to the point that you can basically buy your blaster like this fully built and with great performance without having to do any modding at all. Heck, I remember when 150 FPS for a springer was peak performance and reaching that with a flywheel blaster was a challenge. Now, only about 10 to 15 years later, 150 FPS for a springer is child's play and 150 for a flywheeler is just a weekend project as opposed to 3 months of R&D

I remember when 200+ fps out of a springer was basically only for longshots or like plus bows. Now there’s people hitting 450+ with caliburns and M0053s.

I just joined the hobby in April, and YT is starting to give me older modding videos of Stryfes etc., and I keep scratching my head like, “why put in all this effort for so little gain?”

my biggest worry from a power limit standpoint is if you're running a 160fps limit game and someone brings one of these, you only really have their word that they won't kick it up to max when nobody's watching or someone they don't like is down their sights, i hesitate to make changing power levels something that cannot be regulated to be off field only.

That is always a legit concern. But it is also a concern with most brushless flywheelers that have easy adjustable settings. Or even springers that have easy spring swap designs. Neither are quite as easy as this. My advice? Don't play with those sorts of people. They are generally pretty easy to spot.

It's crazy how they are going to make you work for accuracy right out of the box. Why make it hard to add rifling. You were 90% there. Great platform to start modding but for the price you should be about to hit 25ft out with 10in deviation bare minimum.

Great review. That laugh when you saw the first few shots veer off was hilarious. I was so hyped to get this blaster, but after all their delays, I cancelled my pre-order. I'm glad it's easily available at target, but to have to modify it just to take a rifling attachment out of the box makes not want to get it.

@mattorama Allow me to elucidate. There was a lot more deviation at each level. Yes, each setting was different from the others. But at each level, there was a wider spread of FPS. Make more sense?

I’ve been making the rounds on Siren reviews saying this about the Maulr, but it blows my mind that their ONLY design edict was “FPS go brrrrr,” to the point where you can’t hit anyone with all that horsepower. Granted, I’m a Lynx fanboy, but this shows how awesome/dependable the Lynx platform is compared to cheap imitators.

Mine is happy with the adventure force half darts at the medium power setting. Was getting squibs with both the included and the adventure force darts at the lowest setting.

Glad to see this blaster has 3 levels after all. Another review i saw both the medium and most powerful settings were getting only medium numbers. I do remember another blaster with adjustable power settings like this. I dont remember if it was a ring blaster or a rubberband blaster. I remember the power setting breaking easily on it, and also bad ergo. By rubberband i mean it shot rubber o-rings, not powered by rubberbands.

Could be a good mod platform if it's less prone to breaking than the Xshot Longshot. On the other hand, they made it more difficult to change the grips, which wouldn't be much of a problem if they actually made the grips good, lol. They were close but just missed some of the little things. They could have just copied the barrel cover size that DZ and Zuru use so that we could use DZ scar/bcar. The darts are whatever, I'll just use workers or whatever I'm buying in bulk anyway.

12:30 the EPP darts are advertised and available in 20 dart refills. These are included with the Springers. The new darts, Worker Gen 3 clones, are advertised and the reason for the Blink blaster’s delay. They are available in 50 packs. Reviewers were shredding the EPP darts in the Blink’s flywheels. EPP have terrible accuracy but ridiculous distance in Springers. It’s a pick your poison situation. I just use Worker Gen 3 darts for all my blasters regardless of functionality. Good blaster, better than the Gnarl. People have had issues not understanding that the catch moves back more. These blasters lack and lot of locks which I think is their downfall.

Hi Captain, glad to see another blaster in my colours, but what about those "Spongebob" short darts accuracy? And I know it's a pistol but wouldn't the Nerf Snapfire 8 class as a blaster with variable power settings?

@fortyeth yes, the Snapfire 8 had a dial that adjusted the spring tension. We also have mods for blasters like the Nexus Pro that allow us to adjust the spring pre-compression that gives variable power. I was not saying we never had a way to adjust the power on springers. I said I habe never had seen done like this. A variable catch on the prime. Of course, apparently, they did do this back in the old NIC days (before I got into Nerf), but the tech was lost until now.

@@CaptainXavier Yeah, although the thinking was more that you could trade rate of fire for power or vice versa as full sized homemades had much longer priming strokes than modern springers. It makes a lot less sense when the full draw of a springer is only a few inches nowadays imo.

This should be called buzzbee pro. It's all powe, but no refinement like a DZ nexus or aeon x or any other pro blasters released the last 5 years.. They are cheap, but i will not trade my upgraded x-shot longshot pro for this brick.

No, not every bullpup blaster is a "Lynx clone." Just the ones that directly copied the system first developed in the Lynx. If they use a significantly different system (which some do) then they are not "Lynx clones." Similar to how not every semi-auto magazine fed flywheel blaster is a "Stryfe Clone." But the ones that are essentially a stryfe with a slightly different shell but basically identical internals are.

just so you know the darts that came with this are prototypes, the true darts are way different and actually accurate. They wont sell this with these darts on shelves. People it isnt the completed product

They are not, however, what the Blink comes with, because the Blink shreds these like nobody's business. The Blink gets more traditional darts instead.
