I'm a former DJ in Canada and Linda's voice range and the power behind are outstanding. Very few female singers can match that. She sings great country and pop.

If Linda Ronstadt is not country, then what is country? I just simply do not understand why people OPPOSE putting her in the Country Music Hall of Fame. This woman is a GLORIOUS country singer.

At the time she was singing she technically wasn't country. She practically invented what is now considered country music. It all sounds like her music from the 70s and 80s now. However, at the time it did not. Her recording of "I Can't Help It If I'm Still In Love With You" is as close as she got to the country music of the time and she won a grammy for country music that year. Don't forget there was even strong opposition to her being inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame too because she left it all behind and went in 100 different directions. Jann Wenner had it in for her until she got sick. She doesn't even show up on the list of the greatest singers of the rock era in Rolling Stone. I suspect that will change now and she will appear in the top 10. Aretha will always come out number 1. Not that I think it's necessarily wrong but it's a cliche just like Sgt. Pepper always coming out as the #1 album of the rock era. Nonsense. Abbey Road is better as are about 20 other albums. Sgt. Petter is self indulgent narcissism.

I am a huge fan having first seen her in live performance in 1974. It would be a year or so before I began collecting records. It fascinated me that with the finest equipment in the world, no one was able to capture her voice without the amps clipping. It took years for the tech to catch up. Thank the Gods, it finally did. Linda was a singer you had to hear live if you wanted to experience that incredible voice. I am not overstating the impact she had on me when I tell you that first show changed my life. You will hear this echoed in the film, The Sound of My Voice. I am so glad to have lived on the planet at the same time as she.

When she came to NYC she used to avoid Madison Square Garden and instead played multiple nights at Radio City where after 4 or 5 nights she had played to the same 30,000 people she would have at the garden. Radio City had amazing acoustics and those shows were unbelievable. I saw her the first time as a young teen in October of 1977, which I think was this tour, right after the release of Simple Dreams. She was in amazing voice and she even played guitar. She picked it up before "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" and said "You ain't seen nothin' yet". I was in the industry for years in my 20s and 30s and there never was before or since a voice as powerful or as beautiful as this one. For comparison, Aguilera's might be as big but she only has one setting, 11, and the voice is not as pretty or as nuanced. Kelly Clarkson I think is the best singer since Ronstadt, the voice is not as overwhelmingly powerful, but it is beautiful and it can do anything. The obvious Whitney, Mariah, etc. Nah. Not even in the same ballpark. Mariah is a great singer but her voice is just average sounding (same with Beyonce who is an amazing artist and a great singer, but the voice is what it is). Whitney was just one big hype machine with possibly the worst taste in songs in the history of music.

My wife and I saw Linda when she played the U. Of Toledo in Ohio on Aug. 11, 1978 -- just months after watching her perform in the film "FM." James Taylor's brother, Livingston, opened for Linda. Same campus where we saw Steely Dan in April 1974, fresh off the release of their third album "Pretzel Logic." Just might be the two best shows we've ever attended.

I saw here in Concert in the 80's - the red polka dot on white dress album (name?) . Waddy Watchel was her guitarist then also. I still wonder why he was never a front-man, he could play that guitar as well as anyone in the business and could sing. I know he had his own band but they were never headliners.

It has always been my experience that those who know and appreciate the least about music in general are the most concerned with genre. I refuse to even discuss genre. A song is a song, not meant to tick boxes, but to tell a story.

Waddy is a great, great player and that Gibson Les Paul is his “standard”. However, the crunch of those humbuckers doesn’t do this song justice. Using a Strat or Tele on this rendition and the ring of those single coils would have taken his break to the next level. My personal .2 cents.

Linda had pretty good concert quality all through her career like this show, but most of 1970's concert quality was slipping fast & a lot of concerts just sucked. Rock started off as dance music, but died away to garbage pop because of concerts. Now that has happened to country music & they haven't figured out why, but they should know because history is a good teacher. Looking for good music on the radio in 2019 is like looking for a jackalope!

What are you talking about? Are you saying live concerts ruined music? Live music was at it's best in the 70s, just pure musicianship, no backing tracks or sampling, just playing and singing. I honestly don't understand your thinking.

What is so sad about this version of the song: In 1953 or 1956 Wanda Jackson first recorded this song. The verse that says: I grew up in faded Gingham"...tells the whole reason and meaning behind the ORIGINAL song. Other artists leave that IMPORTANT verse out. That verse is the basis for the whole original song. It is here on you tube, Wanda Jackson is the artist. There is an faster tempo version Wanda Jackson performs with the Buck Owens band in 1970, in Oslo Norway. Also here on You Tube. Please check out the original lyrics is all. Just saying. JW.org
