I was actually pleasantly surprised while watching this series. I've never been that interested in anime, but this show was different. It had interesting characters, amazing character designs, incredible fight scenes that seemed original and unique, and then there came the storyline. It was so well balanced and it didn't feel rushed or seem like it was desperately trying to get to the end which is something that some shows struggle with, and it was just enjoyable all on it's own! I loved the background characters, my favorite being Philip mainly because of his backstory, it left me wanting to know more. We also didn't get to find out barely anything about Dorothea and Fallon. The only thing i disliked about this anime was that it didn't have more episodes.

Not to mention that Yuily was a werewolf. We need more werewolf representation in anime. There are a lot of vampires in anime, but not as many werewolves. Also, a werewolf vampire hunter is something that makes so much sense yet surprisingly is not something I see more of.

At first I thought that this was just gonna be another boring/mediocre anime but it truly exceeded my expectations and I'm glad I watched this show, it was well written and executed, animation was top notch, and there was something unique about every character, it also combines western and Japanese traditions which was very nice, and last but not least I love how it also takes place in the 1930s - 1940s because thats my favorite setting for TV shows, I also found your review legit and I completely agreed with you, thank you for sharing your opinion. This is one of those animes that I feel like they did CGI right, you most of the time dont even notice its CGI. Also the story is fast paced but like you said it never feels rushed, I still left with a lot of questions, and I liked that the anime itself didnt explain every single thing, like some things you could figure out on your own. The characters felt really good, the team always felt very united and you kinda get to know a bit of them, like you know this dude is from london, this other dude is from ireland and he has a family, the girl was from some aparently some place on latin europe like either spain or italy, you get to know a bit of the proffessor. Its not a masterpiece or nothing like would say FMA or anything but it is a solid watch that will keep you on your toes wondering how the story will unwrap itself. If I had to rate it in 0-10 I would go with an 8.5. Not completely sure if I would want a second season just because I dont see where the story could turn into and make it interesting for the people that liked the first season. If there is ever a second season all I want is that it focuses alot more on other vampires( I really liked that the little vampire girls were actually scared at times when they were about to die or that they could see Yuliy's point at the end, I want more vampires like Bishop or Mihkael) and on the team (Fallon, Dorothea, Phillip? and Willard) I kinda want to know more about them, what drives them to do this particular kind of job.

The only time CGI kinda made me sigh was the train scene at the end. the water on the right doesn't even look like water. But that was really the only time I noticed it.

But it reminds of the hero complex and ideals from fate and of Shirou Emiya. How he believed in savings the world but realized he couldn’t save anyone. Will it be like that for Yuliy?

i randomly found the anime thru fightscenes reccomended to me cause i had been on a werewolf searching binge (info and anime with good ones in them) and it sent me here. i assume the mc is a werewolf? he certainly didnt seem like a vampire, either way this seemed really cool! i mean ive also just been looking up vampires and old folk tales for either monster its been a fun binge so far

IMO, this show is a short and sweet watch, but it doesn’t hit hard and is definitely FAR from perfect. I don’t focus on the flaws of a show while watching, but a lot of the scenes feel rushed and the overall buildup in the story doesn’t feel grand, so to speak. We also learn nothing about the other Jaegers regarding their past history (except for Willard). The list goes on with missed opportunities like exploring Phillips relationship with Yuily, or putting more screen time on characters past and giving deeper meaning to the past that was explained by some characters like Dorothea (said that she came from wealth family and that she wanted to become a jaeger after seeing the vampires - that’s it.) Yevgraf of all people also felt pretty underwhelming. Though I think that’s actually just me.

It had good animation but sorely lacking in plot, it shifts from one thing to another. It first starts off with a revenge story but then shifts to a story about how we should look deeper than the surface level of others. However, it did so very fast and didn't seem natural at all. All in all its a 5/10

you managed to put my thoughts on the characters into words better than I myself have been able to since I watched this show and I can now think about it all a bit more clearly XD cause yeah I totally agree that as much as id have liked to know more about the other Jeagers, gotten to see more of the build up to the events on episode 6 and 7 in the form of the team interacting and exploring their characters and such, I'm also perfectly happy with the way they handled the 12 episode limit they had, you know? They came at that limit from the angle of ''this is a story about Yuliy'' and everything one way or another returned to affect or be affected by him, other character's screen time included. Nobody took time away from other aspects by being in the forefront more than necessary to: further the plot, provide context, develop relationships in a way that adds meaning to later/present events, or to control the rise and fall of the tone of the episode. I think that's a big part of how they managed to avoid feeling rushed or underdeveloped in places that were important to the current story being told. Still, that doesn't mean I don't have my fingers crossed that season 2 will let them go more in depth in things like the other Jeagers backstories and characters, and the worldbuilding of their organisation and the vampires respectively. I know they'll have a story to tell across the season as well, but maybe with the set up out of the way bc its not introducing absolutely everything about this world to us, the writers will get to allocate priority to other things in between telling a it.
