These days if your tricked, lied to, or just plain disrespected in the process of doing business, there has been a campaign in recent years to convince us all to make us think we deserved to be thieved by who ever can swindle our resources from us. I'm in my 60's and can very well remember that this most definitely was not how it used to be. A thief is still a thief and a dirty liar is still a dirty liar who should be hunted down, punished and made an example of. Remember this...."it all ain't never good as long as you don't get caught". THAT IS CRAP. Rise up......

And usually for us as consumers to get our cheap dopamine kick by laughing at our neighbor when they get screwed, so we can feel superior because we did not fall into the same trap they did. If they were as smart as we were, they would not fall for it. They're stupid, we're smart. Look at how smart I am for not falling for it when you did. It's so stupid. Sometimes I wonder if we deserve it.

@@rossmanngroup Although I see this often on the internet I've never understood it. It pains me to see people scammed or stolen from, even if I think they were very naive. No laughter. No dopamine. I still have empathy for the victim, and am fully aware that each success emboldens the thief/scammer and encourages more of them to try ....and the problem spreads. It really is plague. The crooked "used car salesman" used to be a stereotype for this, but now it's applicable to so very many other lines of business.

Canada also has federal laws that protect the consumer from these types of predatory practices, which while it stops them from the most part, dosent prevent them from trying to give you the run around unless you specifically say what you want in a very precise way. Bell is a great example of this as when I was trying to transffer a prepaid phone number to a diffrent provider, they told me there were steps they had to do before they could approve my transfer, then at the end when I confronted them about giving me the run around they admitted they have no control over a number transfer and it HAD to be initiated from the new carriers side! Or how they are currently installing new fibre lines in rural areas where I live and keep "accidentially" cutting the phone lines which prevents ESSENTIAL 911 SERVICES from being contacted in the event of an emergency. And when I called to complain that its been over TWO WEEKS since the issue firat occured, they keep saying it will take more time to fix and its not their fault because it was some other company that cut the line. It dosent matyer WHO cut the line, the fact is its CUT and their skirting responsability in repairing the line, which is putting lives in danger!

I had a gym membership at a new gym that just opened once. It had a 12 month commitment and the owner noticed I hadn't been to the gym the last 2 months of my membership. I got reprimanded for not answering an email my boss sent me at 11pm at night, rather the next morning on the train. They lie to part time workers to break their backs for a shot at full time, and only promote a very select few. They’d rather pay 3 part time workers than one full time to avoid paying for healthcare. Every single person I ever talked to in the customer service department hated doing the cancellation process and drove their mental states down because they constantly got yelled at by (rightfully so) angry customers who just wanted to cancel.

The harder it is to stop doing business with a company, the more clearly they're communicating to you they don't belief in the value of their offering. If they're confident in their offering, they'd focus on making the experience the best they could for the customer. The only reason you need to barricade the exit door is if you're confident people will flood through it if given the option. If not, you're only harming yourself by doing it. Remove the hurdles to show you are confident enough in your own offering that customers will choose to stay.

Literally told them I don’t have that car anymore and they kept asking me about my new car. I lied and said I was consolidating vehicles. Back then it wasn't so bad, as the 3 'offers' were quick to say and dismiss, things like 'would you like to put a seasonal hold on your account instead if it's for a vehicle you don't use this time of year?' Since I left and the two companies merged, it's gotten so, so much worse.

To me, the problem with requiring certified mail isn't procrastination. It's that post offices are ONLY open during business hours (specifically they open at 10 AM when everyone is already at work) and ONLY on weekdays. In order to cancel a subscription that requires certified mail, you have to either go on your lunch break (which is likely not possible if you work more than a mile from your home), or you need to take a day off work and completely miss out on a day's pay.

I have SiriusXM on my car radio only because it was complementary with my new car. After the promo eneded I just wanted the basic plan and they simply gave me ANOTHER 6 month promo. So I just might cancel completely as I only listen to less than 10 stations😔

I had this kind of issue! Me and my dad had a membership at a local gym. Planet Fitness. We enjoyed it sure, but the problem was when we had to cancel. We were moving across towns and there really wasn't a gym close to us. We call them. They tell us we have to come in person to cancel.(Or send a letter like you described) Extremely frustrating. Needless to say. I only work out at home now. Screw public gyms. They don't care about your self benefit. They only care about $$$ and as months went by before we cancelled they were still taking out money! Granted, it was only 10 dollars a month. Which wasn't that bad. But still. It is kind of evil. This is how these kind of companies make their money. They're hoping and praying that you just "forget" gyms especially don't care about your well being. They're hoping you forget. At least the public ones.

You can’t cancel Sirius online. If you try they make you talk to someone. Plus, they were sued years ago over something like this, I think. I could be wrong but I know it was a class action lawsuit.

Stop giving these companies your debit card and checking account info. Use a credit card, mail checks, or pay with cash.

You can also use online bill pay through your bank. That's what I do. They get sent an electronic payment or a check, depending on the size of the company and how they receive electronic payments. But that way, the company I am paying NEVER has my personal account info. I don't care if the company wants to offer me a "discount" to have my account credentials on file. Ain't happening.

@@G.S.Holland Much safer. If the company messes up I have to send them the mistake, they can't take it and then say nope no mistake. The one that confuses me, is they mail a check to my water board who has electronic paying, AND uses the same bank, but they can't do an electronic payment to them????

Their cancellation processes is awful. Don't bother telling them your not interested in the service, I just lied and said I lost my job and have no money. That worked much faster. Also their audio quality is horrible.

Poor audio quality in this day is intentional. I remember when I had COX cable years ago, their hold music sounded like it was recorded from a record player to a cassette tape and then the cassette tape was left in a hot car in Texas for a week. The reason for this is because they don't want to talk to you.

Need a law that says “if you can signup online one can cancel online. If you require certified mail to cancel, then certified mail must be required to sign up”. Pretty common sense here. And it can apply to everything.

In my personal experience, the absolute best way to cancel your subscription or membership is to tell a human that you're moving to an area where they don't have service there. That immediately renders all offers to stay useless.

Not to mention if you buy a car SiriusXM will suddenly have your information. Then they will call you, email you, and even send you letters for years trying to get you to sign up no matter how many times you ask them to leave you alone.

The other thing that SiriusXM did was make all receivers XM in every car in brands that were traditionally Sirius such as Mazda, Ford, and BMW. When you say want Howard Stern they will tell you it is a Sirius channel and you have an XM receiver (even though the company is the same now), and to get a Sirius channel on an XM receiver you have to have the more expensive package.
