It’s especially sad that their preferred world is Bowser finally making at peace with the Mushroom Kingdom. Deep down, the Bros really want Bowser to change for the better and want him to end this perpetually never ending war between the Mushroom Kingdom and the Koopa Kingdom but they know that he never will so they have to just keep on dreaming. IGN is full of shit for saying this game’s story is bad.

My jaw dropped at this part of the game. This is one of the darkest things I've seen in a Mario game, the bros and everyone else are trapped in a world of Utopia in their heads where everything is perfect while they're being starved to death in real life. Some real dark shit there and I love it! This game has some guts.

I have not played the game myself but the way it's framed makes me think this is supposed to be about reminding kids of the importance of making real human connections in this world of technology, where it's all too easy to be sucked up into virtual reality and forget the people around you. It's kind of ironic for a videogame to be saying that, but that seems to be the message. In a sense, it's something that a lot of gamers need to hear. You should be questioning why you're playing videogames; is it for enrichment, or simple escapism?
