When I was a kid my father owned a shoe factory. One of my father’s employees, a kind man named Carl, developed his own shoe which was an athletic type utilizing modern materials. It was the first time I ever saw a “sneaker”. I was mesmerized. Unfortunately I wasn’t paying attention and left the prototype sitting on a conveyor belt and it was destroyed, damaging some of the equipment in the process. My father was furious and demanded to know who was responsible. I was too afraid to speak up and so Carl took the blame. My father fired him that day. I was ashamed.

I started my apprentice in 81, in an 4 th. generation business which has been established 1874, I can tell you by far, this is world class , even the technic they use is really old school crafting, the one contrast compare to European or western technic is the different use of the knife technic, in western technic, you cut with the knife in opposite direction, and the knife has a different shape........ Even the tools look quite similar to our tools, but a lot of the branding technic at the end of the Vid shows the use of tools which are often not being produced anymore, for instance, I posses some, some of them more than 50 years old, tools for branding the inner arch edge which called half round edging, they don't exist anymore........ They show shoemaking on the by far, world finest completion. an sharp eye, an brilliant aesthetic outcome !!!!!! This is the reinvention of traditional shoe crafting on the highest gentle Level. Boys, I can tell you if you entering a Master class in Germany, your work will be granted with the highest score.

not to rain on your naive hot take but shoemakers are artists. making a distinction is redundant.
@andersjjensen2 жыл бұрын
@@lordjaashin Bot to be a nitpick but shoemakers are craftsmen. Those who take their craft to stupid high levels are artisan craftsmen. Granted, non-industrialized shoemaking is so rare now that most of the ones who still practice the craft are in the artisan category, simply because "just hammering shoes together" isn't financially viable any more.... but the distinction is still the same, just as with any other craft.
@lordjaashin2 жыл бұрын
@@andersjjensen who is even talking about "artisan" here? whole conversation is about "artist". anyone with skill can be an artist. period. making distinctions among artists is like trying to differentiate between Picasso and Warhol. in the end they are both artists and any discussion regarding their skills boils down to personal perspective and is plainly subjective matter. besides artisan is glorified term that has been hijacked by purple haired weirdos trying to sell their mediocre skills at expensive price to equally gullible try hards
@andersjjensen2 жыл бұрын
@@lordjaashin artisan /ˈɑːtɪzan,ɑːtɪˈzan/ noun: artisan; plural noun: artisans a worker in a skilled trade, especially one that involves making things by hand. "street markets where local artisans display handwoven textiles, painted ceramics, and leather goods" Origin mid 16th century: from French, from Italian artigiano, based on Latin artitus, past participle of artire ‘instruct in the arts’, from ars, art- ‘art’. Sure there were purple haired weirdos in the 16th century.... So: Artist: Someone who makes non-functional art which only exist for pleasure. Artisan: someone who makes an art of a craft. Also, your shitty attitude just makes you look like the purple haired gullible try hards you rant so much against. He eventually sold his shop to be closer to family instead of commuting back and forth every few days from there to Edmonton...but when he was working on shoes, he just seemed so happy, in his element, doing what he knew best. He was still very mentally and physically sound even in his old age. As a person who who has always enjoyed working with their hands I can appreciate the satisfaction that comes from crafting something from nothing, though my skills are crude in comparison. So I knew when I selected this video that I'd enjoy it, and there's always been a small part of me curious at how cobblers performed their trade. I wasn't prepared for how mesmerized I would become watching it. Amazing artistry! These must've been made for a specific person, because I can't imagine all this hard work and awesome craftsmanship would be wasted on an off-the-shelf pair of shoes. Not to mention that I wouldn't pay as much as these must cost unless they were made to order. I'll never own a pair of shoes like these but if I could it would be even more rewarding to be able to watch the care and craftsmanship that went into them. Though I doubt the person that drops this kind of money cares about such tedious details...
The craftsmanship in this is Amazing. Especially for someone who seems pretty young. Job well done. 💕

I'm a huge Berluti fan, having bought many pairs over the years, this craftsmanship is outstanding and on par with some of the finest quality bespokes out there. Thank you for the video!
@iaido012 жыл бұрын
well rtw berluti is one of the worst "good" shoes i have seen for the price. i rather have paolo scafora or a edward green or a john lobb for that price.

@iaido012 жыл бұрын
@@heulkrampfer are you ignorant or just acting that way. it gas nothing to do with price. berluti isn't what it used to be. now it is just a fashion brand. paolo scafora is handwelted, hand sewn, uses the highest quality full grain leather has a tapered waste amazing arche support etc etc. vs berluti that asks 1000 euro more for no fucking reason at all

@@iaido01 I am a kind of ignorant, from your perspective. As a craftsman i see the dedication the young man putting into his work and a customer complaining about the price. In my trade lots of people refuse to pay bills, sueing to avoid it. Sad little men with big plans and small minds.
@iaido012 жыл бұрын
@@heulkrampfer no i am not like that. if something is worth 10k i would buy even if it is a suit, but if a suit is 10k, but worth 2k, i am far away. quality always cost money. i have also a bussiness and i explain to them like this. i call i the love triangle. cheap and fast is never good. fast and good is never cheap. fast. cheap and good is never fast

So calming to watch, so reassuring that in this messed up world someone still cares deeply about quality and has cultivated the skills to achieve it. I come here and the channel of “my mechanic” when I am frazzled find them therapeutic.
