I don't think Japan could atack Sovient Union, because before Hiroshima and Nagasaki thre was one battle between Japan and USSR, that Japan lost.

Japan could have had some early success against the Soviets if they had timed the invasion with the Germans. It may have worked as well, if the were able to hold Vladivostok and pulled enough troops off for the Germans and Finish to get to Arkangisk and Baku. This would have cut the USSR off from outside supply and their oil sources.
