F stop tells you the size of the aperture (entrance pupil to be precise), T stop tells you how much light it lets through. F stop tells you about depth of field, T stop tells you about exposure. Of course they tend to be closely related since bigger holes admit more light, but they're both precise measures that just measure different things.
@ziginox3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I was about to write this down myself. It comes down to the number of elements and what type of glass is used, as well as the coatings on those elements. Basically any lens will have a T-stop slightly lower than its F-stop. Off-hand, the Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN has a T-stop of 1.8 It's not exclusive to the number of elements, though: The Sony 16-55mm 2.8 lets in more light than the Sigma 1.4 DC DN trio does at the same focal lengths and F-stops, hence the T-stop on it is lower for the same given F-stop.
@bencushwa89023 жыл бұрын
F-stop is about geometry, T-stop is about the actual amount of light on sensor. Like my Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 is really more like a T1.6 or T1.8 because it vignettes so heavily wide open.

If I thinking well the anamorphic lens made view is closely similar to cylinder projection traditional film camera (like the soviet Horizon cameras), because anamorphic lens collecting the reflected light from theme to a compressed area horizontally to the sensor, which means closer appearing angle of light rays on sensor to ideal 90 degrees at corners. So no distortion, picture are the same with the not too big panorama mosaic picture (for example 2 frame distance moving only with a smartphone) in this case not a still picture but a continous video.
@thebitterfig99033 жыл бұрын
I just wish there was the "free" anamorphic option--different aspect ratios in camera. Sure, cropping in camera to 2.8:1 would lose a lot of pixels, but it'd make "cinematic" framing easy for anyone at the push of a button with just a firmware update.
@samsonkipp3 жыл бұрын
just put two tape stripes on your screen for framing and export it in 2.35:1 after cutting 💀
@thebitterfig99033 жыл бұрын
@@samsonkipp can tape get you there if you don't want to use an EVF? Eh, kinda. But if there were simply a "custom aspect ratio" option next to the 3:2 and 16:9, easy peasy, plus you have all the information like shutter speed and ISO displayed on the screen. Just irks me that something which should be so trivial in every camera only exists in a handful.

I don't have a ton of experience with anamorphic, but I haven't been that impressed by Sirui's lenses. 1.6x is definitely quite a bit better than 1.33x, but the footage just doesn't have that "magic" feel generally associated with the anamorphic look. I've tested out the Vazen 65mm T2.9, and it does a much better job than any of the Sirui lenses I've test (50mm and 75mm or whatever the longest focal length lens they sell). Yes it is 3x the price of Sirui, but still quite affordable compared to most anamorphic lenses.

I'd like an anamorphic lens for video for my Fuji X-T3 but I must admit I find the whole thing a bit daunting. I'm a 99.5% stills shooter so video is not really my thing but I do love the anamorphic lens look, the sideways blue lens flare and wide aspect ratio. I'm guessing I'd need to buy an external monitor as I don't believe the X-T3 can display the correct image on the backscreen. Plus editing would be more difficult? Special software required?

Hey There, same here, I am doing stills only and am addict to anamorphic, so I started exploring the various options and decided to go for Fuji XT4, simply because of Sirui-lenses (since the other options ar eway to expensive or not feasible for stills). So I am shooting in Fuji's RAF format, then imprting to LightRoom, selecting the files I will use and the de-squeeze the respective choices with Photoshop. I know, this quite awkward but I haven't found a non-destructive way to de-squeeze RAF's in batches (rather than doing them one-by-one...I hate PS, so the only thing I use it for is to desqueeze, all adjustment (clours etc.) is done in LR). I am using the Sirui 50 and the SIrui 24, most of the time with a Tiffen Pro Mist filter attached to enhance the cinematic look. General problem being for that the close-up distances are not very good so I am currently starting to explore extension tubes for macro work - and desperatly waiting for the Sirui FF for L-mount to be delivered. There is a KZbin channel by MediaDivison, who have two of the best documentations on anamorphic look and the tech behind out there and I can only wrmaly recommend to watch them (at least I have learnt so much from then and the MediaDivsion guys are great). If you want to see some still examples ping me and we will work out a way to get in touch so I can provide you a link...but be careful: you either hate it or get addict like me :-) Best, Michael

In the days of film, anamorphic made sense to get a wide aspect ratio. But these days with digital capture, it makes less sense because you either lose information on the capture, or you lose information on the digital projection side since a 4k frame is a 4k frame. So you're not really gaining resolution you're effectively just cropping anyway. So to me, the only reason to use these would be for the bokeh and the flare. And that just doesn't seem like it's worth it for the cost.
@Donbros3 жыл бұрын
I think its worth it, but the degree of worth is not as high as in film days. Probably best thing to do these days is to do as some hollywood movies do - to mix sperical and anarmorphical lenses.
@jmalmsten3 жыл бұрын
I'd add the distortion that a wide angled anamorphic lens can have is a third thing to consider. But one can often get a decent approximation of it by shooting in spherical 16:9 and strategically pulling in the corners with a warping-tool and cropping the result to 2.4:1. But yeah, I'm still holding out for the holy grail. An affordable 40mm 2x anamorphic lens with a canon mount. 50mm 1.6x doesn't really do it for me. :/
@samsonkipp3 жыл бұрын
the anamorphic lens breathing is also giving it a nice feel you can’t get with normal lenses

The funniest part is when you start to talk about resolution. Its like an accountant talking about why the mona lisa is the most valued painting while his grandpa painting is 4x the size and needed 4x more paint. Until about 2 years ago the most used cinema camera by a large margin was the 2.8k Arri Alexa.
