I would like to see an in-depth discussion about the pros & cons of using Sirui's full-frame anamorphic lenses and their APS-C lenses on a full-frame camera like the Sony A7IV. For Sony users, there's a great app for Android and iPhone called Monitor+ that allows you to plug your phone into your camera and use it as a monitor! The paid version is $19 but it's cheaper than buying a separate on camera monitor, and a lot of phone screens are larger than 5" monitors! It does anamorphic desqueeze and you can load in Luts.

Great video as always Tito! I personally don't mind that it's only T2.9. That's a plenty fast aperture on full frame in my experience. Certainly would not complain if the aperture could go wider though.

These are pretty cool, I think I will be saving for the new Atlas Mercury lenses though. Similar squeeze and coverage, but with faster apertures and PL mount.

I have a Leitz 35mm f3.5 with Leica thread mount and that lens almost has a large format look wide open. Absolutely gorgeous waterfall bokeh. So it’s not just that the 35mm is T2.9 or anamorphic but it’s also not been designed for maximum character.

In your 50mm review your reference how the Squeeze factor changes from 1.6 to 1.51 as you get to closer to 0.75 meters. That information was highly helpful. You didn't mention this information on the 35mm and 100mm. I would really love to know the numbers for the 75, 35, and 100mm -- if the squeeze factor changes with them?

I picked up a used Siri 50mm T2.9 and have really enjoyed using it, it does have some shortcomings but it is definitely heading the right direction for me. Sirui was a really inexpensive way to try a native L mount anamorphic especially since I'm an L mount shooter and have other L mount cameras. I'll probably pick up the 35, 75 & 100 to make a set but when budget permits I'll go for a more cinematic looking set.Thanks!

Another interesting and informative review... but I still have one question: what KIND OF ANAMORPHIC CONSTRUCTION is this lens? Middle-anamorphic?.. no front or back cylinder elements visible... and some anamorphic effects seem to be restrained... any guess?

It's a front anamorphic. Anything that has the cylindrical glass before the entrance pupil is a front anamorphic.

The 50mm will vignette with the adapter on full frame sensors, while the 35mm by itself won't. :)

I would like to know if you can help me. I am currently working on my 4 camera setup for streaming to OBS. I want it all to run anamorphic lenses. I have 2 full frame Sonys and 2 apsc Sonys. Im wondering should I just buy the full frame anamorphic set or 2 full frame and 2 apsc. What will give me the best cinematic image? Just wwant to order the right parts. Also I have a 28-70 gm so I was planning on buying that adaptor that will bring my Sony gm to anamorphic? Wondering if that will have my gm matching the other anamorphic full frame sets?

First off, big fan of your channel, you inspired me to try anamorphic shooting and I'm loving it so far! Do you have a video about editing anamorphic footage after it's been desqueezed (1.6x) in Premiere Pro? I'm new to anamorphic shooting and my editing workflow, such as adding transitions and digital zooms, are a pain because of the manually adjusted heights and widths of the footage, I've ried using adjustment layers but even those have their limitations. Hope to hear back from you soon!

I am planning to buy sirui anamorphic lens set. But I can't decide Which mount should I buy. If I buy PL mount then I can use it with Sony E Mount cameras or Canon EF mount cameras with metabone adapter. Now my question is is there any back focus or vignette issue or any other issues in case of using adapter?

They don't come in PL mount, or EF, only mirrorless. Any mount you choose, you'll be locked to it. So if you have a Sony camera, E-mount is the only option.

Hi Titto I adore your content. Also watch every video. I have an issue with my equipment. Currently use Caden diopter, Isco red star and Helios 40 and lumix s5. I believe I suffer from astigmatism because I can only focus an img with f4 minimum. Tested with other lenses such as Jupiter 9, Nikon Nikon 18d, and smc takumar 50 8. All these lenses do not suffer img quality loss but only Helios 40. Is the diameter of taking lens too wide or anamorphic lens or can it be Helios can not focus to infinity? Any advice? I've been using the S1H for almost two years now with zero complaints. But I also heard lots of good things brought to the Fp in a firmware update. Just didn't have the time/chance to explore it.

There's no electronics in the lens, so no motor to drive autofocus - that's the simplest explanation. There's a more complicated one about anamorphics, focusing and cameras AF detection.

Hi an other great video. Just one question from a French filmmaker who is new in the anamorphic world. I’m also filming on a Lumix S1. What’s the point of getting the full frame Siriu line-up instead of the m4/3 with an adaptator m4/3 to L mount if the anamorphic mode on the S1 works on the apsc mode of the sensor. Because if I have understood the principle of anamorphic it works on an 4/3 ratio of sensor…. Or am I wrong ? THX a lot !!

The point is to not use the anamorphic mode, but the open gate mode, which gives you loads of extra recording area on the sensor - this area is covered by Sirui's full frame lenses, while the MFT/APS-C versions won't get it.

You'll get a 2.84:1 aspect ratio and crop out the sides to conform to 2.39:1 if you want that. :)

As for the 4k 4:3, you'll get a 2.1:1 aspect ratio. I've gone for 2:1 aspect ratio a lot recently, so just a little crop there. On a 16:9 recording area, 1.5x or 1.33x lenses fare better if you don't want to crop anything out. I'm okay with cropping though. :)

Panavision is still the best for customization for large format coverage, lens flares are Bokeh and distortion. C series can’t be replicated, like having a vintage wine.

True but it’s like buying a Toyota vs a Ferrari. One thing people don’t take into account is also service and repair. Anamorphic requires a trained and experienced technician to maintain. It’s highly sensitive and cannot be repaired without proper equipment. Repair costs range from $150 to $200 per hour. You wind up spending more money in the long run for a look you might not be satisfied with and a lens you wished didn’t purchase for all the headaches associated with maintenance.
