The Lumix S1H actually records 3:2. If you shoot with 1.6 squeeze factor, you will get an aspect ratio of 2.4:1, which looks dope af ^^

Just a heads up (from an anamorphic nut job) SmallHD monitors can desqueeze anamorphic anywhere from 1.00X to 3.00X on a sliding scale with an accuracy of 0.01. They’re a must-have for shooting with anamorphics and can handle whatever you throw at them. I film regularly with my vintage 1.75X Kowa on S1H Open Gate 6K, and I’m able to desqueeze and have 2.40:1 frame guides no problem.

I really love the more casual approach to this video, it really feels like you you are having more fun with the production of the video and the gear, however, I do wish there was a way to incorporate your 'experiments' into the video. The reason I was drawn to your channel was because of that extra layer of detail you brought to the conversation. Your video on 4/3 sensors really stands out to me for that reason. I was thinking about how you could manage this and still retain that fun, casual tone to your videos, and a thought I had would be that instead of you talking to the camera and relaying your findings afterwards, you take the audience through the experiments and as you are testing things we get to see it happen in the moment, and then you can give your opinions off the cuff as you get the new information. I dunno food for thought, bottom line I will continue to support you because you are one of the few KZbinrs I really enjoy watching. I hope you are doing well.

Loved this video style. Felt way more casual and less condensed / stressed out. Surely not one that fits every format, but I could see this "easy" handling be something that could nix up the overall content in a nice way.

I love that Gerald is trying new things, but the reason I love him is that he is so surgical about accurate information, He is the most percised youtuber, and this format is just like every youtuber. Follow your heart, but hope you keep doing what you used to do about gear. I feel like Gerald takes us to school

That's how I felt too. Like...I enjoy watching Gerald's videos precisely because they're NOT this. I don't want to watch people hanging out and chatting about a lens, I want a thorough analysis. That being said, he's just getting started on his journey to re-discover himself as a KZbinr, and I'm sure he'll settle on something great.

I think the lack of flares from reflections is likely related to the variable ND filters as well; they're made of two polarisers stacked on top of each other at varying angles so there's a good chance of at least one of them cancelling out any given reflection. Reflections are highly polarised and easily blocked (deliberately or accidentally) with a polarising filter
@brettpatching3 жыл бұрын
Great experiment! I liked the Unnecessary B-Roll Montage :) I really appreciated the sample footage - it gave a good impression of how the lens would make a film look. I also really liked Patrick's Stabilization Notes afterwards - sharing insights in his own studio space after he edited. I love the "discussion" format; same with your Not a Podcasts with Josh. Can't wait to see what you make next.

Gerald I love you but I hate the format of this video. I’m excited about this lens. The price is unheard of for anamorphic and I think you guys short changed it, despite the half hearted recommendation at the end. Moreover, I really want to know more about it, and I just didn’t get a good sense of what the lens is like from this video. That’s normally why I watch your channel.

I'm hoping to see a 2X Sirui lens at some point. My issue with these lens is that you don't really have that characteristic anamorphic look which is what most people are after. It's kinda there with 1.6X (unlike with 1.33X), but I'd like those oval bokehs to be more prominent. Still, it's nice to see the progress from crop 1.33X to this.

Hi Gerald, got a doubt. Every time that apeers that double flare you r using the variable nd filters? I d'ont know if its the lense it selve that produce that or the nd. Looks like is the reflection in the nd. Maybe with an internal nd you can shoot at dayligth at maximum aperture without this second flare, of course shooting with an fx9 for exemple, or with a non variable nd filter in a mate box cause is far frome lens... i don't know. Thanx a lot for your job.
