Interesting that the Sigma prime trio is currently just about $80 more on B&H Photo. Personally, I think the price difference justifies the Sigmas as the better option.

I'm not quite sure of your math ($289, $549, $399 = $1237), but there's no question that the Sigma options are sharper. I don't think these lenses are for the typical Sigma buyer, however. They have a very different look...and there is an audience who like that.

For those who already have a set of, mainly, Fujifilm glass, there really isn't a huge temptation. However the 2 recent Viltrox 1.2 lens appear to offer quality, if at a higher price point.

I agree. It is hard to touch those two Viltrox lenses for pure performance.

Problem is that the main point of buying apsc(at least for me) is the cheaper price of lenses. I love that there are primes for 300-400$ that offer insane image quality. Viltrox is great however price at 600-700$ which I just dont have a justification for.

If you're obsessed with test charts, these are not the lenses for you... but for real world shooting, this is quite the bargain for a trio of AF f1.2 primes.

I'm satisfied to see that they are very simple designs. If they were optically perfect it would make me suspicious.

I wouldn't quite go that far (there are still relatively few autofocusing F1.2 lenses), but you're right that advancing lens technology has made it more accessible.

Not really. I found them a little soft unless heavily stopped down.

Hy Dustin. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving! A couple thoughts on these lenses. The images you posted look amazing. Of course, I'm not pixel peeping at 200% LOL. Sometimes I think the ability to do that is a curse. Without it we would all be blissfully ignorant of the tiny imperfections in our gear. Also, it will be interesting to see how the AF performs on Sony bodies. I have no justification, but I suspect it will be more "sure of it's self" on the newer Sony bodies. I guess we'll see.

Yikes. I just watched Arthur R's review of these lenses on Sony E mount and if anything they are worse! They are preproduction copies so........

Unfortunately they are nightwalkers with af. A good thing if you need the cinema glass softness and some help with setting up focus in run and gun indie shoot. Not good if youre planning to use it for stills or a super sharp video look

Thank you! And yes, the images from these lenses definitely look better when viewed globally than at a pixel level. I do think there is a market for these, as there are some people who prefer that style.

I'm using an A7S3 camera, but why is there a vignetting effect on the screen?
@DustinAbbottTWI
@DustinAbbottTWI 6 ай бұрын
Your A7S3 is a full frame camera while these are APS-C lenses. You would have to shoot in APS-C/Super 35 mode to eliminate the vignette effect, but that will be a lower resolution point.

These Chinese lenses with their super long MFDs and 0.1x magnifications man. Same nonsense from Viltrox and TTartisan autofocus lenses. This has to be exactly where they cut cost and managed to keep the prices down. Not even asking for half macro here, but even a slight increase to between 0.15x - 0.2x would have made the lens more useful and convince me to buy them.
@DustinAbbottTWI
@DustinAbbottTWI 8 ай бұрын
I'm with you on that. Viltrox is finally getting better on this, and that has made the 27mm F1.2 and 20mm F2.8 more attractive to me.

I am new to photography... Why does having a far minimum focus distance + small maximum magnification matter? Thank you
@EXkurogane
@EXkurogane 8 ай бұрын
@@MoreData-hz8hm long minimum focus distance means the lens won't be be able to focus on anything physically too close to it. You can't shoot close up photos of smaller objects. I use 35 and 50mm primes from Nikon S line and Sigma Arts in studio for product and scale model shoots. Their magnification are only around 0.15x to 0.18x range but that is more than enough because the stuff I shoot are not very small objects. However my experience with Chinese lenses with 0.10x magnification, i would say they are borderline unusable for me. I don't use macro lenses unless I want to get extreme close up shots, because macro lenses tend to focus breathe a lot given their microscope-like optical arrangement. Focus breathing is a huge pain to deal with in focus stacking.
