Thanks for making this video! I got this injury last year from a tetanus shot. Had pain and couldn't move my arm much for many months. Luckily there are treatment options (I got a steroid shot) and the VICP compensation program. Unfortunately COVID vaccines aren't in the program yet, but hopefully they'll be added soon... to anyone reading, if you care about this issue, I highly recommend contacting your representatives and ask them to help this happen. Apparently Congress needs to impose an excise tax on the vaccine, and then HHS needs to add the vaccine to the Vaccine Injury Table for the VICP to cover SIRVA from COVID vaccines. If you got injured from a COVID vaccine, for now you can file a claim through the CICP (Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program) but it's not as good as the VICP as the costs tend to outweigh the benefits.

I got my second Shingrix vaccine shot on June 21, 2021. It hurt like Hell when I got it, which surprised me because the first shot didn't hurt at all. The shots were administered by two different nurses. The one that really caused me pain was younger and less experienced. Here it is August 3, 2021 and my shoulder is still very painful. Often, I can feel it throbbing and it's always tender. I didn't know about SIRVA until yesterday. I've tried icing my shoulder and taking ibuprofen, but neither treatment has helped. I still have range of motion, but I always have pain. It really makes me mad that I've had to go through this because of someone's incompetence.

Mine has been getting progressively worse for 4 months now. My first shot was done by a retired GP, I was super scared but she talked me into calm, I didn't even feel the shot. Beautiful. Roll on jab 2, the lady looked like Miss Trunchbull off Matilda, she was in such a rush she told me to take a seat while the seat was still being sanitised - I'm not sitting on some random blokes hands... The questions read out at 100mph and jab felt like I'd taken a 50 cal to the shoulder. Whole process was maximum 45 to 50 seconds. I'm skinny and I think she shot me too deep, it went down to the end of the needle. I've been reading and it looks like they use 25mm needles (I'm T1D and use 5mm needles, I've done tens of thousands of my own jabs over 18 years). I'm in a lot of pain. Driving is the worst, sleeping is awful. I get down and do press ups, stretches etc. Nothing helps. It's a dull ache and I can only attribute it to the jab technique. Does this sound plausible? I don't want to accuse a volunteer of making a mistake, but here in the UK they went mental paying people £10 a jab to get the numbers up. The lady who did my second jab probably earned £5000 that day

UPDATE: I still have the arm pain in my vaccine arm 8 months later. I got x-rays and MRI, and was diagnosed with bursitis, SIRVA and partial rotator cuff tear. Look into these diagnoses, you might have a similar situation. I got these injuries as a result of the vax because onset was in the vaccine arm immediately after administration. The shot was administered wrongly, far too high! Into my shoulder! It was an inexperienced, clueless nurse. She didn't even know what it meant to 'aspirate the needle' and refused to apirate before injection. I should have known and gone to someone else, who actually knows where in the arm the deltoid muscle is!!! I did absolutely no sports at the time of injury, and I'm young, so it was NOT a sports or old-age injury. The doctors refused to report it as a vax injury though! I've now been in pain for 8 months :'( Physical therapy not helping so far.

I had my second shot in late March. The arm soreness never went away. I tried to ignore it for the first few weeks thinking maybe it was just exceptionally sore because of the exceptional nature of a new vaccine. I finally went to the doctor this month and was diagnosed with a "musculoskeletal disorder." Sent me off for physical therapy. Which I've had two phone appointments for, but haven't started yet. I didn't learn about steroid injections until after. I've called back to try to schedule some. I really hope they help. The pain cannot be managed with OTC meds. It's fine if I'm not using my left arm, but if I try to do anything with it (especially driving, or extended sitting at a desk using a keyboard) it really goes off. I can feel it in my arm/bicep, and it sometimes moves into the top or bottom of my left shoulder blade. Sometimes into my neck on that side. Occasionally even into my left pectoral. It's rough. For awhile after the shot, I thought I was having a heart problem from the left pectoral pain! I just hope this can be fixed without permanent damage. I am a young man with no disabilities and do not want to be saddled with a permanent shoulder injury because I got a covid shot too high or too deep. Very bizarre. Unlike others here, I did not have terrible pain after the second shot initially. In fact, it caused less arm soreness than the first one. Then it just slowly got worse day after day.
@blolly99383 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, I needed to comment seeing your post because my symptoms developed in the same way. I didn’t even feel the second shot and then the soreness started setting in and slowly moved around my arm - which I was not even worried about for the first few weeks. The second shot was at the end of April and by June my arm was very restricted and if I moved it the wrong way pain would shoot through, and I couldn’t drive. So I’m writing to let you know what resources I’ve turned to. The Frozen Shoulder Workbook by Clair Davies who also wrote The Triggerpoint Therapy Workbook, and massage therapy. This book has really critical information, and it can be gotten from the library I would think. Then I turned to a massage therapist who helped me a long time ago with a different problem, who is really excellent. A couple of sessions with this massage therapist really helped in an amazing way, after I was diagnosed with Frozen Shoulder. However, I did not resolve it all the way. I was able to drive and do most normal things again so I thought if I just kept using my arm normally things would improve but now the problem is returning. I had another session with the massage therapist but this time it not as effective. So I’m going to go again. So…my point is to just please read about triggerpoint therapy especially frozen shoulder. I still actually have not resolved the problem though, as I said… but I think that I came close and relapsed. Now I actually don’t have the same pain that you describe…but there’s this weird pulling sensation, as I’m trying to do the splits which I have zero ability to do…if I move my arm in a direction it no longer wants to go.
@blolly99383 жыл бұрын
So again, even though I have relapsed it is because I thought that I recovered too soon and was not careful enough after being tremendously helped by massage (it was a massage therapist with a lot of experience who understands about triggerpoints) and self-applied triggerpoint therapy. Also there is a facebook group for SIRVA which you probably know about but just in case, I’m mentioning it here. Some people experienced extreme pain right when they got the shot and since you did not I’m thinking that maybe what’s helped me is likely to help you. (Though again it has yet to help me completely and I’ve relapsed, but hopefully will be able to recover fully). Best of luck to you.

@@blolly9938 Thanks for the reply! My doctor sent me to a physical therapist who gave me some exercise bands to do some rowing exercises at home with, and has done two deep tissue massages. I'm hoping the third massage tomorrow puts this condition to bed for good. After the first couple of months, this moved out of my bicep/shoulder/shoulder blade and into my neck on that same side. @@genahebert4 Haha, well good LUCK. I'm now almost 15 months into this problem, and in addition to the pain, now the arm just falls asleep. MRI detected mild tenosynovitis of the long head bicep tendon (I've found at least one article about SIRVA saying that's what MRIs showed 8 months into the injury...) Finally got a steroid injection, which did nothing. If you read about how to treat shoulder injuries, it's rest/NSAIDs > physical therapy and cortisone injections > surgery. They're supposed to do surgery to fix the issue if nothing else works. But I have Kaiser. The only HMO with shareholders. The dollar is the bottom line, and they won't pay for any surgery. I don't even WANT a surgery. I want the Tenex procedure, which is apparently more effective for this, less invasive (you can walk right out after) and a LOT cheaper. It's 1k-5k. 15 months in. Agonizing pain using my arm for some tasks. Arm randomly falls asleep from halfway through the bicep down. I haven't slept on that side in 15 months. It just keeps getting worse, and can possibly lead to permanent damage, and FIFTEEN MONTHS IN... this is Kaiser's treatment plan. "These things take time to heal." Thanks Kaiser. I'm sure the settlement you'll pay me when I can't use my arm anymore is going to be well, WELL over the 1-5k you could've just paid to fix it. I start a new job soon with different insurance. So perhaps a different insurance company will actually bother to fix this before the year's out. Or not, because for some reason, NO ONE FUCKING KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THIS, even though doctors have been writing about it since 2006. I'm an attorney. Even we have to take continuing education classes, FFS. If other members of my profession were writing scholarly peer reviewed articles about something for the last 14 years, and other members of my profession were putting KZbin videos out about it, you know, I'd at least TRY to take it more seriously than my ortho did.

Any recommendations for chronic pain from SIRVA? Is it too late for a steroid injection? I've had this problem for almost 3 years after a flu shot. Took a course of oral steroids but pain returned as soon as I finished. I had adhesive capsulitis and did PT for several weeks end of 2019. Range of motion pretty good but some days I still have a lot of pain. Very weak and painful on external rotation. NSAIDs help a lot but I have been getting uncomfortable side effects and I get worse rebound pain. I had an MRI done about 2 years ago and one doc said they saw a tear in the rotator cuff and referred me to someone for surgery. THEY said there was no tear and did not recommend surgery since this could make range of motion worse. Exercise seems to help but if I don't exercise often enough the top of my shoulder/base of my neck get very painful and tight and I get a pins and needles sensation around my shoulder blade. Some days the pain is on the anterior aspect of the joint, some days the posterior, some days the lateral. Sorry for the sob story, but I'm feeling pretty discouraged by it at the moment. I'm 33 and enjoy rock climbing and kayaking and I'm worried it's going to get to the point where I can't do those things.

Thanks for this information. With so many types of reactions to the COVID shot, and so many people with anxiety over what it can do and how it’s administered, this kind of straightforward information is good to hear. Yes, we can have a “normal bad”reaction to the vaccine. Usually that means our body is preparing a good fight against any invaders. But knowing what to look for beyond that is good info. I had a normal bad reaction and got “COVID arm”, swollen from shoulder to elbow for two weeks in the arm/shoulder I was just about to have surgery on. (Might have been a bad call to have it in that arm!) Thankfully, it wasn’t SIRVA, but it sure got my attention. In case we all need to get boosters, I’ll have less anxiety about the administration of the shot because now I know what to ask of them ... lower and not so deep please!

Had my covid vaccine recently. Experienced a couple days of localized soreness as usual and it went away. Completely normal. But a couple days later, the soreness returned even worse. Worried something may be wrong. My first and only dose was administered on the 6th and the pain returned on the 14th.

Thanks for this video. I had a shot yesterday, and I can see from the mark that it was a bit high (just right at 2 fingerbreaths, the second finger just covers the needle mark, and definitely not in the belly of the muscle). I have pain now that is in the realm of normal for post injection, but my neck is also sore. I'm praying I don't have an injury. BTW, if it turns out that a vaccine was inadvertantly injected into the bursa, do you still get the systemic immunity? should you repeat that vaccine? Thanks again
@rotatorcuffexpert3 жыл бұрын
while there is no specific data on the immunity if it is not placed in the correct area, it would stand to reason if it gets into your system it will provide immunity. I had my booster in Dec 2021 and as of June 2022 I'm still having issues with my arm! Originally, I just thought that I was lucky the first two times to only have soreness for a few days and that I was just going to have soreness slightly longer with this shot. By January my arm was far more painful than December and my range of motion was limited. I could not lift my arm up high enough to shave my armpit nor could I really use my arm for washing my hair. I saw my new PCP in March 2022 and was informed to exercise my arm and to use heat on it. I told her I was icing it but she said to switch to heat. She didn't not tell me what type of exercises to do! I'm currently able to lift my arm higher than before (December 2021) and I've finally started rolling onto my arm to change sleep positions BUT I can only tolerate that position for 10 minutes. I had my booster at Walgreens not by a doctor. The guy seemed annoyed when he gave me my booster. I'm so upset about this that I'm not getting another booster! What would I do, use my undamaged arm for the next booster? I feel bad always asking my spouse to help me get a top off and on each day. I'm devastated.

Thank you Dr. for sharing this information. My pain started Nov 2021 after the 2nd vaccine. Pain, limitation to range of motion, cant sleep and all the side affects. After seeing my PCP I was given anti-inflammatory drugs, also went through Physical therapy nothing helped. After doing a MRI scans, the results came out with large tear to the bursal side of the supraspinatus tendon. My orthopedic surgeon (from sports medicine) recommended surgery with codes 29827 (rotator cuff repair) and 29826 (decompression). My insurance only approved 29827 and denied 29826 (stating its not medically necessary). My doctor wants to do surgery for both codes but insurance has made it clear if not pre-approved I will be responsible. From your expert opinion, is the 29826 surgery code necessary or not for situations such as this. Thanks for your response.
@rotatorcuffexpert2 жыл бұрын
It is more common recently for insurance not to cover 29826. Most of us still do it as we think it is important. ( recent studies question if it is really helpful). I’ve been having issues with my upper arm and shoulder since I got the vaccine. I don’t know what it is but I’m scared to move my arm and it has got worse with time..last night I moved my arm back to fix my pillow and omg it hurt so bad it felt like my shoulder was on fire and I couldn’t move it for at least 2 minutes? Could this be the cause? Thank you

My wife got vaccinated a stup..d nurse injected it in so close to the shoulder !!! What are the chances it can cause permanent damage?? Shes still having so much pain after 7 days ! The range of motion is really bad. . She doesnt have insurance shouldnt the county responsible for this damage ??since they hire a stpd nurse. Im a nurse and the moment she got back to the car and saw where the bandage was i was so furious !! And told my wife is she blind or even know the technique to administer injection.

I got a Corna Virus jab. I can't move my arm . The consultant told me, it is capuligus. Will it get better. The Consultant said it can take a year, to heal.

It is called capsulitis. I would recommend seeing someone who a shoulder specialist to evaluate and help form a treatment plan. Good Luck!

I live in canada and have Sirva since November of last year.. I have done the cortisone shots x2, physiotherapy, massage but I feel that the focus is on the tear and the inflammation.. My question is, what damage does the vaccine, the virus, the toxin that was inserted into the bursa, what is the effect from the vaccine.. For me, months later, despite treatment, I'm still in pain. When I talk to my ortho about investigating the possibility of withdrawing the vaccine from my arm it is looked on with great rejection.. I live in canada and although health care is free, trying to get the right treatment plan is not always easy.
@rotatorcuffexpert3 жыл бұрын
It is impossible to withdraw the vaccine from your arm. Once it is injected into the body it is absorbed and processed. (that is how we get the immunity). I would recommend asking the doctor what is/are the next treatment options for you. Good Luck!

@kimcarty55353 жыл бұрын
@@rotatorcuffexpert I have seen where experts, orthos and rheumatologist have documented and have explained withdrawing the vaccination from the arm as it sits in a sac and is not absorbed, maybe it depends on where the medication was injected.. There are documentation of withdrawal on KZbin as well. . My concern at this time though is understanding how long does this take to heal.. I've seen other injured party who continues to have pain 2_4 years later.. I'm a nurse so this injury is quite debilitating for me... I wish I had better understanding of this injury and treatment plan.. I would appreciate any other treatment suggestion if you know any.. My ortho, who is an amazing doc, has done all that he knows I believe..

I’m having shoulder and neck pain but on the opposite side of where I got my vaccine. Can the vaccine be the cause of it? I got my first dose just 2 days ago.
@rotatorcuffexpert3 жыл бұрын
It should not be from the injection itself. It is most likely that it is a generalized response to the vaccine not the injection. Hope that makes sense. If this does not get better soon I would go see an ortho.

I received a COVID vaccine in January. The jab itself was painless and the site of injection was correct. However, two weeks later, i developed pain and spasms at the injection site which gradually intensified and persist six months later. My shoulder range of motion is unaffected. An ultrasound scan of the rotator cuff and affected area is normal. My quality of life has been compromised by this jab.

I'm sorry, I would get an ortho to look at you. There are things that can make this better, also in my experience an Ultrasound is not nearly as good as an MRI in evaluating the rotator cuff. Hope you get better soon.
