To the Blender users: No- the modifier stack can't do this stuff....especially not the array modifier alone. You'll run against a wall as soon as you want layered falloffs for your effects. Yes- Animation Nodes is powerfull and it can do a lot of things that are shown here. But it is not a reliable production tool for Motion Designers in the industry. It still has render bugs, it can't handle very large amounts of instances, especially high-poly ones and it has an insufficient connection to Blenders Physics and Particle Engine. (Not to speak of those systems as they are still horrible in Blender) BUT the biggest issue is the development: The creator of Animation Nodes Jacques Lucke is currently working on particle nodes. Early access features show that it is developed in a completely different direction. Blender in the future will become full node based and for this they will change the whole internal system over the next few years. Also mainly based on C instead of python. This means that Animation Nodes which are python based will not have a long term connection to new Blender features. It will still take lots of years till you get something even remotely comparable to Mash or Mograph in Blender. So please stop these half-assed "Blender can do everything as well" comments if you don't have some real insights.

You can follow Ian Waters on KZbin or his Vimeo channels. He is the developer of MASH and he released a ton of quick, super engaging tutorials. They are a few years old now and MASH has been subject to updates, but the basic premise in his tutorials still apply. Also he is really funny. But perhaps Sir Wade will continue to release fresh training for MASH, since Ian appears to have moved on.

Thanks! MASH is quite deep, it's super fast, and a lot of fun to play with. One more thing worth mentioning. MASH has easy to use built-in procedural animation effects as well: either using effectors to create turbulent-field looping motions, or through the 'engines' which create iterative transformation effects on geometry groups which can all be glued to work together (like a churning or crawling effect). Combine these with the Bullet physics for true collisions and gravity, and you've got, say, a crashing asteroid field, or sandblast effect, or a Plexus-like object, in literally minutes. In my opinion, MASH is *not* a complete substitute for C4D MoGraph tools, which are considerably deeper and better integrated. But MASH was acquired to try and appeal to users who wanted these quick dynamic motion graphics toolsets.

Maya Motion graphics= mash+bifrost+paint effects+ particles Blender Motion graphics = Animation nodes (upcoming nodes every where) Cinema 4d Motion graphics= Mograph+fields (upcoming nodes) Houdini motion graphics = every thing nodes+ technical knowledge! Every software has lot of functions and tools (similar and exclusive), so learn at least two of them. I created lots of motion graphics with Maya, especially using hierarchy nodes, mel, particles and paint effects. Then Soup node came with no documentation and tutorials. But using some examples I used it in some projects. Later came the mash nodes (as a plugin) and at that time it had very basic functionality. Later it evolved and Autodesk included it as a tool. By then I started learning Cinema 4d and blender. I wish Blender also evolve in the field of motion graphics. It is very limited in the area of procedural animation and particles. More competition means better tools. Now c4d also aiming for animations and vfx industry, adding more tools, nodes, Houdini like node effects etc. Houdini is aiming for gaming and Indie artist. They are making their tool more user friendly. 2021 is really going to be a war between 3d applications.

I hate to be that guy but like 80% of the functionality of this can be done with blenders array modifier... this does look faster and easier though but you could definitely use the array modifier, vertex groups and and a physics modifier or maybe a few extra modifiers you could do everything you mentioned in blender as well, which is really cool for both programs! I have no idea about cinema 4d or hudini, I've never used them but if you guys wanna know how to do some of these things in blender look up ducky 3D

@XYZRobZombie
@XYZRobZombie 4 жыл бұрын
honestly, you could do this in ALOT of different 3D programs like Cinema 4D but i think the greater point is not having to switch programs. Switching programs to just do one or a couple things is a big pain production wise and sometimes financially costly. So when your native software comes up with a way of doing the same thing, it tends to be helpful. Even when you scream at them that they should have had this sooner LOL! Blender is cool though!

You can probably do everything with AN, but it's also Houdini-level node wizardry. At least a lot of the toy examples he showed can be done with Blender modifiers, instancing, particles, shader nodes ... Some others will get hairy and may e.g. require fiddling with empties. What looks nice about MASH is to have all these quite different "mograph" things in one place.
@jcsfx710
@jcsfx710 4 жыл бұрын
these are called Fields in Cinema 4D, instance animation through modifiers in Lightwave 3D, and blender can do this with Instances... is not a Maya only thing.. you can do this inside of After Effects using plugin Element 3D and mO2 inside of Apple Motion.
