Thank you for this important video! At Disneyland I saw a little boy pulling up the beautiful flowers by the roots, and his mom was just standing there watching him. Another visitor told the mom her son shouldn't do that, and the mom's answer was "he's just bored". I couldn't believe she thought it was ok for her son to do that! The flowerbed was stomped on and torn up. I felt bad for the staff who took all the time & care to make Disneyland beautiful.

I'm with you on the listen to the employees part. I used to work at a Haunted attraction at a theme park. And when you're waiting in line for the houses There's a voiceover saying don't touch the actors. I've heard of people getting thrown out of the park and banned from the park itself for a year for inappropriately touching an actor or harming an actor. It's shocking how many people don't follow this rule even after hearing it over and over again in lines.

And that is why I will never go on a Haunted attraction. I am more afraid of reacting to being scared by hitting the actor more then being scared.
@Ravensinkwell
@Ravensinkwell 7 жыл бұрын
Saphiria TheBlueDragonKnight the actors aren’t supposed to go after people who might lash out. And they tell them if they go after someone they think might lash out it’s their fault. They won’t kick you out if you do it on accident. If anything the actors laugh it off at the end of the night.

Last year at Disneyland, a cast member working the queue for the Haunted Mansion kept having to tell kids "Don't sit on the ropes, don't swing on the ropes" - very in character at first. After telling off these two kids several times, he came over and patiently explained how the ropes might break, they'd land hard on the ground, that would hurt - the dawning comprehension on the kids' faces was impressive, like they'd never made the connection before that the things they're yelled at not to do - there's a reason, not just grown-ups spoiling their fun!

TURN PHONES ON SILENT!!! I don't just mean the stage shows but the attraction shows like tiki room and captain EO type things. This one bugs me that no one reminds you to do it. It's become a habit to do it at the movie theater but it's not instinctively obvious at a theme park. Heck, I've forgotten on a couple occasions myself (luckily it never made a sound but still).

Yould think talking on a phone would be obviously bad on a ride. And yould probably thing I'm talking about a young person. But this old couple sitting right behind me on Kilimanjaro Safaris the woman gets on phone to loadly discuss where she is what shes doing and where they should meet after. It was right at the start so it was not a worst case situation it was befor any animals and such but I was so close to snapping at them by the time she finally hung up. I was like are you kidding you should know better at your age.

I have always felt it was a genral rule of thumb that you should only be able to save a spit in line for one other person. So half your group should always already be in line. I get so annoyed when one person is in line and 5 or more pepole cut in to join them.

Here's a bit of common sense a lot of people avoid at theme parks.When you have a little kid,look at the height requirements BEFORE you get in line.And don't encourage your kid to cheat the height rules or get mad at the cast member who doesn't let your kid get on.Those rules exist for a reason.

Radiator Springs Racers at California Adventure is one of only a few attractions with a single rider line which can be a great option to get on quick, however, you are told repeatedly that you will be split up. Everything about the line says that you won't ride with your party so there's no reason to think other wise. On my most recent visit back in November, I was almost to load on it in the normal line, and I was kinda watching the single rider line to see how fast it actually moved. At one point, the cast member told the first person in the line to go to some row and off they went, followed by 3 or 4 other people in their party. I couldn't hear what was being said, but it was clear that they didn't understand why the cast member was telling them that they needed to go back. I really don't know how the concept of a single rider line eluded them, but they were very confused.

Joseph Laser I’ve seen that. In some cases, it’s just people thinking rules are for other people and really expecting to get away with anything, the entitled brats. But in other cases, especially at a place like Disney, there might be a language barrier and a simple “Oh this line looks shorter; let’s go here” decision. I don’t think the latter group is free of all blame, but it’s not the level of obnoxiousness as the first group. And I’ve seen people hold up the single-rider line by arguing with the employee and trying to “explain” that they really want to be together. Even seen people get mad. Ugh.

I remember the first time I went to SF Great America when were visiting my family in that area in 2016, there's a wood bride when your heading to where The Joker and batman is( as long as I remember correctly) and the bridge is not fully enclose, has some edges, and there were 2 people sitting on the ledge, and there's an 8ft drop into water underneath them. When a janitor came by he got them to get off but thats just ridiculous. Good video as always, and funny to see people who still have home phones.

As a former usher for both Cirque Du Soleil and the Rose Quarter (go Blazers), roughly half of these apply. The number of times I had guests completely ignore me or the posted rules was ridiculous. On a couple occasions, I would instruct a guest to do something, walk around, go the other way, etc, and they would look me dead in the eye, and do the opposite! Needless to say, I don't work there anymore.

I will never forget, about a year or so ago, I was driving the kiddie train at my park (top speed is like 6 or 7 MPH) and it was near closing time, so we had stopped the line and my last riders for the day were a woman and her child who I remember were very happy to be able to ride the train before it closed. The man with them, who I assume was the woman's husband/partner, although he could have been the woman's brother or just a friend, decided he would prefer to not ride himself and just watch them ride. The way this kiddie train works is that it starts out from the station, passes behind the cafe, then zooms through an old Western-style town, where guests can stand and watch the train go by (the tracks are separated from this viewing area by a waist-level fence, which most people with common sense would know not to jump over anyway), before going uphill through a bit of garden and finally returning to the station. Ride procedure is to go around the tracks twice for one ride, so I'd done one circuit around the tracks and we were going through the Western town for the second time, and all of a sudden, as we were coming out of the tunnel, there was this guy standing in the middle of the tracks as the train zoomed full speed toward him. Luckily, even though it was full speed, I was able to stop the train from hitting him, but I was both pissed off and terrified that our lives were in danger. He didn't seem to understand the concept of "don't climb over the fence in front of a moving train" because once I'd actually stopped the train and made sure everyone wasn't going to die, he just casually asked me "Oh, I was just wondering how much longer the ride was going to be." I just gave him a blank look and was like "This is our last circuit around the tracks. We'll meet you back up at the station. Get off the tracks, it's dangerous to climb the fence." (he was the first person to ever climb that fence, btw, all our other guests understood perfectly well that that fence is not for climbing) But I mean, how clueless would you have to be? He wasn't even trying to get a hat or phone from the tracks. (I don't remember if his wife spoke to him after the ride stopped, but I imagined her giving him a magnificent lecture about safety once they got home lol)

I've seen women, mainly teenage girls, take off their blouses to try on another blouse or t-shirt in the Disney gift shops. These were shops without outside walls. My party and I would be just walking along to the next attraction along with lots of others so it wasn't as if no one was on the causeways. And there was always a fitting room within mere steps of them but, nope, I guess that's just WAY too far to walk. And, nope, they didn't appear drunk. More than once, they weren't even wearing a bra underneath! And, nope, they didn't then go "OOOPS!" when they realized this and cover up but just continued right on with what they were doing and flashed everyone again when putting back on their clothes they came into the shop wearing. Now maybe one or two of them were from countries where this was a common thing to do in public but I cannot believe all were foreigners and I know for certain by how they were shouting to each other in the shop that many were definitely Americans. Oh well. Those in my party and I always laughed when this happened. The women among us also usually shook their heads in disbelief.

Jack Decker I work in retail. It's only about 40% clothes, but recently we've been locking the fitting room doors for loss prevention reasons. We have giant bright green signs above a door bell that essentially say ring the door bell for us to unlock a fitting room. It's amazing how many times I've turned a corner to find someone (both males and females) topless or bottomless in the fitting room hall. "What on earth are you doing?!" Cust: "oh, sorry, I couldn't get into a fitting room" me:"did you read the sign?" Cust:" what sign?" Me:"the two bit green ones right next to you on the fitting room doors...in fact, your right hand is on one of them..."

Another thing to add, don't spit off the side of a ride, especially when it looms over a walkway or there are people down below. It's disgusting and half the time the spit comes right back at the ride and onto another rider. There have actually been 3 incidents where I've been on the receiving end of someone else's saliva. The first time was when I was riding Mamba at World's of Fun when the guy in front of me spit off the side and it came right into my face. At least the guy apologized in the end and we talked everything out. Unlike the kid who rode in front of me on Screaming Eagle in the second incident. He actually had to be led out by security. The third incident was when I was operating Sky Screamer at SFSL when I was working the Enable switch. Ride was in the middle of it's cycle when I felt something wet hit my arm. Had to dump my cup of water out to wash it off. And it was a hot day and our fan was busted and our line was backed up. Chances to get water were limited. Just please people don't spit off the side of a ride. It's revolting and no one wants your bodily fluids splattering all over their face.

Hello Sir Willow... how about staying off and away from Railroad tracks? I'm an engineer at a theme park with a 100 ton narrow gauge steam train. We have guests all the time up on the tracks or running the crossing gates. My favorites are the parents with strollers with their small children in them or guests in the electric scooters that get caught between the gates while the train is coming.
@SirWillow
@SirWillow 3 жыл бұрын
I'm actually a bit surprised by that. At Busch, Disney, and SDC the tracks have barriers of some sort all the way around them, with the only exceptions being crossings (one at SDC and if I remember right one on stage and two backstage at BGT), and the on stage ones are manned and have barriers that block them off. I'm really curious as to how your guests are getting to the tracks without going over barriers, and if they don't have them, why not.

@@SirWillow I think alot of the newer safety rules dont apply due to when the rr was built, would be part of my guess as to why we aren't fenced off. We have signs posted that no unauthorized people are to be on the tracks. I assume that meets safety requirements. like you said, some people just dont think -, even around a 100 ton propane fired steam locomotive. Oh the stories I could tell....

Something that has BAFFLED me since I started my college program is that some people think that they can relieve themselves wherever they would like. I can understand little kids having accidents, but a few weeks ago, the Flight of Passage attendants and custodial had a real great day because some ADULT GUESTS decided to LITERALLY POOP in the queue. The whole attraction had to close because of it. As a guest, I saw a boy probably close to ten years old drop pants and pee in a fountain. People just change their kids diapers wherever they please! Come on, there are restrooms for a reason! Even if there's a line, most people will be courteous enough to let you skip it if it's an emergency.

my common sense rule, I learned the hard way... waiting in line at mr toads wild ride, while on a trip to Disneyland with some of my dance students, we did what bored dancers do and started doing tricks nothing crazy, some handstands, back bends, splits on the rails were having a grand old time as I keep encouraging this behavior (like the idiot i was being), occasionally throwing out the comedic "don't break any thing", and there I go to do a backbend trick between the line rails and I fell. Eyebrow meet curb. i wasn't badly injured but my face was now dripping blood in front of all these children and I'm desperately trying not to traumatize anyone. it all turned out ok but I'm never gonna get to live that one down and we all learned an important rule- no gymnastics while waiting in lines.

I've seen Asian children pooping in the garden at Disney. I understand that this is the norm in Shanghai, but ewwww! There are restrooms everywhere, that's what they're for! And people who undress their children to let them play in the fountains or the water areas drive me crazy. Little children in just their underpants is really not cool, especially the girls who are about 4 or so (and I've seen older). Cell phones are a real problem too. Never mind just ringing. Don't talk on your phone on the lines or attractions. I know the lines can be boring, but I don't want to hear your conversation! A lot of people (my husband is really bad) get really loud when they talk on the phone and it's so annoying to have to listen to that on a line. And people who use their tablets to videotape shows! I am only 5 feet tall. I constantly have cameras in my face that I have to look around. At the Rivers of Light show the woman sitting in front of me was using her tablet. It was right in my way and I couldn't see a thing. I tapped her on the shoulder and she ignored me. I tried 3 times. So I got juvenile (I was really tired and had never seen the show) and I poked her through the whole show and kept whispering "Please move your tablet, I can't see". She just ignored me the whole time. I hope she got a bruise lol.

Kathy Goodman I can think of SO many (almost as bad) ways to express my disgust with these people, I would want to (without the kid hearing me) ask them "how much for the kid?" I mean, you know, since you're obviously putting them on display for people who enjoy seeing it. I'd wanna ask them if they had any movies, are they making good money, whatever it takes to freak them out and wake up, as long as it doesn't backfire on me. That would ruin my career as a situationist performance artist for sure!

One time I was at Cedar Point waiting in line for the Magnum and it was the afternoon which is when Cedar Point is most busy and there was a 30 minute wait. That’s not bad at all. There’s lockers right outside the entrance because you can’t take anything on that right not even a small purse. I was waiting in line and some guy had taken his phone on the ride and it fell out of his pocket while riding and long story short he demanded that they go find his phone even though the policy is “Cedar Point is not responsible for lost or stolen items” and the employees eventually decided to go look for his phone and that’s how a 30 minute wait turned into a 2 hour wait.

On the Bizzaro ride at SFNJ the wait was an hour since the ride operator refused to run the ride because the guests were clicking their seatbelts... he was all like " WE CAN WAIT HERE ALL DAY" and kept saying jokes into the mic while everyone was on the ride ready to go/annoy him.

Here is one: "Learn youre kids (of all ages) good park (and theatre) maner and keep a look out after them while you are in the park (or on a theatre)." And the most important rule should be youre rule number seven: If a employee says something - Do that and do not come back doing the same thing you were asked not to do a second ago! You would be crazy if you have seen how ignorant some parents are to theyre kids behaviour once they are inside a park or a theatre. Johan.

First don’t bring go pro or phones or anything onto rides. Unless the park says it’s ok don’t it’s only a way for u to get talked to by park police or kicked out. Another is don’t complain about food and drink prices. U know it’s not gonna be cheap. Thirdly. Don’t leave your trash on the table when u leave. Take your plate or boat or soda cup and put it in the trash. Another one is don’t line jump. All parks have cameras to see if u do. Lastly listen to all park staff incase u need to know something

WTH!!! PEOPLE TRIED TO SWIM IN MOATS, PONDS AND FOUNTAINS WTH THATS INSANE lol ... Ohh I've just seen a disney vlog of someone allowing their kids to eat the park's flowers what the heck lol ... I thought Brits were mad and crazy rofl! haha... ok why just why would u even do any of that... ok them rose bushes look cool underneath if ur a kid lol... Hey they might be on the 'fence' thinking about a ride lol.... Ohhh question i dont know if you've ever explained it and in one of the vids or not as im still a newbie to um. Why Sir Willow?? Due to the film with Warwick Davies?? Yup love that one too! My friend down the roads obsessed with it lol. OH MY GAWD!!... YES THE SAFTY RESTRAINTS!! on our news there was a roller coaster at a famous theme park here in the UK and on one of the rides one of them broke down and went on the loop the loop and some other things apparently a few people got killed for not wearing the seat belt thingies properly! Question Sir Willow: The safety restraints / Lap bars that come down on a ride .. I don't know about disney but i've been in places before and even happend with me, where they've brought the bars down but there not staying down and the bloomin supervisor for the ride just walks away and im there going hey...hello??? can y- nope hes gone! What would you do?? I've had to hang on for dear life!

You're on the right track on the nickname. :-) You can find that answer and more in my FAQ at facebook.com/notes/sirwillow/faq-answers-to-frequently-asked-questions/691097057737198/ The lap bars depend on the ride. Sometimes they are to hold you in, other times they are to give you something to hold onto, other times they're simply a reminder to not stand up. It varies from ride to ride and how they are installed.

Can confirm people try and swim in non-swimming areas. I work at a theme park and I can't even count the number of times I've had to ask someone (usually an unsupervised child) to stay out of a body of water (once on my very first day, there was a kid who actually fell in and I happened to be the first employee that the parents saw so they were like "Help us!" but luckily I was on my break at the time so I just said, "uh, I'm sorry, I'm on a break right now." and radioed for my boss to come help) Also will never forget the kids who came on Halloween, whose parents spoke limited English and were not supervising them at all (I think they were Finnish or Swedish) who went beyond a clearly-marked "no entry" point and tried to shimmy up the 8-foot tall gate into our goat pen (because we have several farm animals in addition to rides) Due to past incidents of children being so rough with the animals that they got nippy, we are very strict about not letting kids stick their fingers through the fence/climb over fences to try and touch the animals--we do offer days when the kids are allowed to touch the animals, supervised very carefully by our animal caretakers, and only the smaller ones are brought out (usually the hamsters or the bearded dragon, but once they brought out one of our sheep for the kids to see) but otherwise the guests have to stay outside of the animal paddocks and satisfy themselves with just looking. Luckily the kids seemed to understand English enough for me to tell them to get out of there and no climbing the fences, but multiple times that day, I saw them running around and breaking rules and their parents were not watching them.

(about #4) Huh. It's still common in the coaster community to leave the restraint up a couple of clicks for extra airtime. However, most restraints are hydraulically operated and lock in place, which means that leaving the restraint up is not dangerous as long as ride ops make sure you fit in the seat. Besides, whenever most enthusiasts do this, it's only an inch difference.
@StamfordBridge

KYLE KIMBROUGH I am always nice and still the inexperienced ride ops think they always have to staple. They ruin A LOT of rides.

CarolinaCoasterFan Yes, it’s common and acceptable for coaster enthusiasts to gain an inch or so, by scooting forward or just not forcing down restraints. But I think Sir W was talking about open defiance of basic safety measures, just to push the envelope and have a wild ride. Some enthusiasts will get away with whatever they can, but it’s considered terrible park etiquette - not to mention dangerous - and all coaster clubs really condemn such behavior for many reasons, especially because they’re always trying to maintain good relations with the parks and have their members be model park guests at all times.

StamfordBridge gets what I'm saying. A click above your waist to give you a little breathing room isn't a big deal. But when you only pull the bar down one or two clicks total so you have several inches between the bar and you- that's not cool. And it's downright dangerous. As I found out with a good scare on SFGrAm's Viper (yes, I'll tell that story at some point)
