MaximumCannon Quite a lot more. Three movies (the first two of which are just the series stripped down and remade, with different music), and Rebellion, which you will either love or despise. Several spinoff manga, also. Like Oriko Magica, where one girl decides the best solution to Madoka's witch destroying the Earth is, obviously, to kill Madoka. Good times.

Frank Wang It's not as great as you say. To me, the plot's just a mix between Mai Hime and Higurashi. It's not bad, but a bit overrated in my opinion. Good soundtrack and animation, but the plot and style weren't as dark as I expected.

This anime makes me think about value of life, and how we should be grateful to have it. its so beautifull and i can't express it in words. it's depressing in a ... "good" way. It makes me feel sad for the characters, but it makes me feel happy because of all the blessings that i have and all of the friends that i didn't know i would cherish so much. this music, only the music makes me feel alive, and its so refreshing, beautiful and i give it a 1000/10. One of the best anime's I watched. (sorry for bad English im not good at it xD )

Probably the best way to explain it is a very brutal, but very well done, deconstruction of the Magical Girl genre. It is... dark, at points, and can be depressing. I'd definitely recommend it, but watch at your own risk.

I think the moral of this anime that you shouldn't try to change anything about your life or hope for things to go differently . Because maybe the way your life is going now might be better than the one you're imagining for yourself. Meaning that the magical girls' lives would have been better off if they didn't make wishes and accepted the way their lives were on.

it showed the possibilities of what an anime could do, crushing tropes and stereotypes of the magical girl genre, pulling dark mature themes into the little girl style, showing even a glimmer of pure potential even these initially kiddy genres can become. they did what people are afraid of doing with pokemon, and did it with sailor moon, and created an anime no one will soon forget.

That rumor started by a well known anime/japophile version of a tabloid website, Sankaku Complex. They were exagerating the truth, the broadcast was POSTPONED because of the Earthquake. 12 episodes is the full length, short but ever so deliciously bittersweet

When I watched this show, I knew it was dark (SPOILERS), but not kill-girl-that-was-shown-in-all-promotion-material-in-third-episode dark. When Mami died I thought she just passed out till the fifth ep because I could not believe the creators would do that. I did think it was weird on how long sayaka and Madonna decided to become maguka. But I thought nothing of it....
