Both were strong personalities working for rival newspapers. I think they had a love & hate relationship with each other, but it's obvious when Gene was dying, they both reconciled and it shows in episodes close to Gene's death.

Siskel's daughter was a flower girl at Ebert's wedding. They might not have been lovers, but these two definitely had a positive off camera relationship.

I preferred Addams Family Value because it had a lot more comedy than in the first one. I will say the cast was spot on! I actually love who they chose for the Gone with the Wind sequel Scarlet and that was Timothy Dalton and Joanne Whalley.

They made the sequel Scarlet which was the continuation and was a miniseries. I do have to say they chose good leads for that.

I liked The Addams Family, particularly because of Christina Ricci, who REALLY stole the show here, Raul Julia, and Anjelica Huston. Everyone is so perfectly cast. The only flaw I always had in the film and the sequel is that the main focus is on Fester, and, let's face it, he's not an especially interesting character. Jackie Coogan made the character work in the 60s TV series, and Christopher Lloyd does what he can in the movies. But I think Lloyd works so hard to bury himself into the character that there's nothing left to make him interesting. Ricci got her star performance in the sequel with the delicious Thanksgiving play sequence, but she definitely proved she had acting chops in the original. I definitely became fascinated by her, and pretty much caught every film she was in, especially Casper and The Opposite of Sex. She is still a fine actress with a rather curious and eclectic choice of projects. You have to give her credit for never truly resting on her laurels. Even that stupid TV series Pan Am....

Addams Family Values is a thumbs-up movie just for Wednesday & Puggsley at camp. THAT is the "real world"--so to speak--that S&E thought was lacking from the first movie.

I walked out of the Addams Family 15 minutes in because it was so boring. It had zero of the wit and clever satire that made the comic strip and tv series legendary. Shame, because the cast was decent. Number 2 "Values" was a bit of an improvement.
