Ah, The infamous North episode. “I HATED THIS MOVIE! HATED HATED HATED HATED THIS MOVIE! HATED EVERY STUPID AUDIENCE INSULTING MOMENT OF IT!”. That line always makes me laugh.

I squealed in delight when My Neighbor Totoro was one of Roger's video picks of the week. I've never watched that movie, but I've always wanted to.

You should watch it, it's lovely! I'm not the biggest Miazaki fan, but I've seen many of his movies and Totoro is his most delightful in my eyes.

So should I see North? I was a little unsure of their opinion from this review.

they should have taped an hour long special where they just roast north

If I ever see Jim Ferguson (a well-known television personality here in Tucson) in person and he wants to talk to me, I'll make a point of asking him how _North,_ a film he described as "a feel-good summer comedy" became far more famous for being "hated hated hated hated hated hated" by Siskel and Ebert.
@kali36653 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but Gene, you didn't write a book called "I HATED HATED HATED *HATED* THIS MOVIE!" So, I think Roger wins this round: He hated North worse than you did.

A truly classic collection of reviews. It also includes his review of Mad Dog time in which he said it was the first movie that didn't improve on a blank screen viewed for the same amount of time.

I remember seeing the trailer for "North" (@10:55 here's the time stamp, I know that's why you're here) as a kid and wanting to see it. Then it sort of disappeared. I forgot about it until years later I saw Ebert's rant about the film and suddenly wish I had seen it.

I honestly don’t think it’s all as bad as it’s made out to be. It has a couple of very insulting scenes the Hawaii and Alaska scenes are in very bad taste and Matthew McCurley as Winchell is annoying as crap. But otherwise it’s really just more of a disappointment than it is flat out terrible. It’s watchable but sad that Rob Reiner and the cast ever saw good material in it and Reiner went from an A+ to D- director after it with the exceptions of The American President and The Bucket List which was really mediocre but it was a huge hit at the box office his first in years.

Other than Moonstruck, I have never liked a film with Nicholas Cage, who I think is honestly, is a horrendous actor. He sounds like someone trying to do a horrible Elvis impression. I’ve heard Red Rock West is good; I’ve just never seen it. The Client had good acting, but I remember not liking it. Actually recall it was boring. I agree with the masses with North; it was beyond awful.

There is no "right" or "wrong" in these cases -- it's subjective.
