10:03 I wish there was still room for hand drawn animation and by the way Gene put this #2 on his list of his 10 best films of the year just behind Crumb. The only other animated movie ranked this high on Gene's 10 best lists in Roger Rabbit in 1988.

It's sad that Siskel wasn't right about there still being a place for traditional animation.

At least in America. I’m glad Japan does a mixture of both
@JanetStarChild2 жыл бұрын
@@jakemetzgar Only Studio Ghibli is making traditional animation. The rest of Japan is making anime entirely on a computer; and the end-product is sterile with Photoshop filters and cell-shaded CGI. Paradoxically, new millennium anime is both bland and overly-stimulating at the same time; like a plastic Xmas tree made entirely of tinsel. Then there's the overall art direction; overly stylized (even for anime), and one can tell that most of these new artists have no training in classical art.
@Milnoc2 жыл бұрын
On the contrary, traditional animation has experienced a huge resurgence. It simply migrated from a cell-based drawing board to a computer-based drawing board. The Simpsons, Futurama, The Venture Brothers, Family Guy, even South Park are all computer drawn, but the animation is presented in a legacy 2D style with some occasional 3D effects. Granted, there's very little hand drawn animation made anymore, but that's similar to people moving from typewriters to word processors. They've simply become a much better and more efficient tool for a traditional job.

The theremin was a big deal. Despite how silly it may sound those first movies it really got under your skin. Great accompaniment to movies. Deserves the ode. Think Forbidden Planet and Ed Wood. S&E really is the best for highlighting this doc.

5:08 Did Siskel say that Kirstie Alley looked kind of "lousy" or "Blouse-y" there? I was literally stunned, thinking he said the former, like "damn, that's pretty rude." I love this show, since I was a kid, but it only just dawned on me how condescending he was.

Pierce Bronson was saddled down with three of the worst scripts in James Bond history. He was also completely mis-cast. Because a little while after this was released, it was announced that Val Kilmer was going to play Simon Templer, The Saint. He and the script not only absolutely destroyed Leslie Charteris' character, he was completely mis-cast. Simon Templer was a combination command/gentleman jewel thief always out for his cut of his ill-gotten gains. Val Kilmer's horrid script turned him into a master of disguise! Pierce Bronson was already playing a version of Simon Templer on Remington Steele and would've made a perfect Simon Templer. Instead, he gets trapped in one of the most pathetic James Bond scripts ever written.

Gene Siskel doesn’t know what he wants when it comes to the actors playing James Bond, he didn’t like Timothy Dalton in The Living Daylights and thought Pierce Brosnan would’ve been better, and then GE comes out, he says Roger Moore & Sean Connery were better. If he was alive when Casino Royale came out, he would’ve thrown a tantrum because he isn’t the other guys.
