One of the greatest comedies ever. Otto is definitely one of the most memorable characters ever and Kevin Kline absolutely deserved the Oscar that year.

Too bad they probably never give oscars to straight comedic performances, even though I would think it's just ad hard to pull off as a straight dramatic performance.

I agree this was one of the greatest comedies ever. But why single out Kline. I mean Jamie Lee Curtis. and John Cleese. Both of them matched Kline, scene for scene. And joke for joke. I mean this must be the best performance of Jamie Lee Curtis. We have seen her in horror movies and she is known as cream queen but she was unbelievable in this role. I mean when she knocks off Kline as says goodbye Stupidissimo because he thinks he is an intellectual for speaking Italian must be the best comeback lines ever. Thescream quuen gave her best performance in a comedy. And John Cleese. Well he started inconspicuous and we thought he was side character but he turned into the lead as the movie went by and gave a great performance. Also to add the actor who stutters. This was a great movie and all the four leads including the stammering actor gave knockout performances.

The second rated R film my parents took me to in the theater, Rainman was the first. I've never seen my parents laugh so hard since. Dad passed away 12 years ago. Mom still mentions this as favorite comedy. I moved back in with mom a year ago to help her out in her old age. There's a cinema pub here that has been playing classic movies. I go there at least twice a week. Mom doesn't get around well but told me she would go to the movies if they brought back A Fish Called Wanda. I spoke to them people that run the place and was told other night they have booked Wanda next month just for her. My heart is happy

This what some of the "I've got the biggest TV possible"/Netflix binge watching folks don't get. Yes, even though some of us grew up with, at minimum, HBO, between that, VHS/DVD, on demand, pay-per-view and streaming, motion pictures deserved to be shown in the theater setting. And fancy spectacles are not required. Hope you have fun with your mother! I'm sorry about your father.

This was a movie I discovered was best left in the past. I remember seeing it in the theater back in 1988, and I'm sure I saw it at least one other time on cable or home video, but it had been decades and I've kind of been in the mood to revisit some older comedies lately. I seemed to remember it being amusing and well-reviewed. I tried A Fish Called Wanda again recently and it was just not funny. In fact, I found it so deeply unfunny that I ended up bailing on the film 3/4 of the way through. The jokes were just repetitive and unrelentingly dumb. It seems my taste must have changed quite a bit over the past three decades plus because it couldn't even evoke a smile much less a laugh.
