Siskel & Ebert Review - American Graffiti, Ice Castles, Same Time Next Year, Caravans

I was a fan of SP and remember this episode. The highlight was the clip of American Graffiti which was coming to network television. It was because of the plug that I turned in to watch in weeks later. I always remember that morning after in high school shop class we were discussing AG for the entire class. Most of the talk centered around Toad's adventures in the liquor store. It was also the very first time I heard ' I Only Have Eyes for You · The Flamingos' and felled in love with the tune. It was a vocational high school and we came from different boroughs in New York City and we all loved the film. The funny thing is that we were just a few years away from graduating high school and would go on to enter the next phrase of our lives. Great Show and Movie. Brings back alot of memories!

I remember when it was new , I did not see it till much later on early cable TV. The end was a buzzkill though -- very sad .

Regardless of them taking a fat shit on this film, I absolutely LOVE Ice Castles.

I don't see Ice Castles as a sympathy movie. It's a movie about overcoming obstacles. Sometimes cheesy is good. Plus Ice Castles had a beautiful score.

I thought Lynn Holly-Johnson was pretty good in "Ice Castles". This was her first movie as a professional actress and in real life she was an competitive skater who turned professional before getting into acting

Ebert was wrong. "American Graffiti" wasn't about the night before graduation, it was about the last summer night before Ronnie Howard and Richard Dreyfus were to leave for college, Ronnie leaving Cindy Williams (Dreyfus' little sister) behind for her high school senior year.

Had planned to say something mean about Gene Siskel for his review of "Same Time, Next Year" but after Googling which one was Siskel and reading his Wikepedia page, I found he died at 53 from cancer. Not appropriate to say something mean. I'll simply say I agree with Roger Ebert, who also died of cancer, but at 70.

Aw, I liked “Ice Castles”, and its cheesiness. Am I shocked that Gene gave the thumbs down to another Robbie Benson film? (I’ve seen too many of these. ) Though now I want to see what he said about “Beauty and the Beast”…I won’t be shocked if he liked it, except for Robbie Benson’s part. Or, maybe he was shocked that Benson voiced The Beast.

Ice Castles still has huge audience appeal. Some of the movies that the critics love have zero audience appeal and are dull. Any movie that lives on and people love watching it year after year is a great movie.
