This sure does bring back nice memories. In 1979 i was 10 years old and i was going to the movies with my then best friend at least once a week, every week, from the 1970s-1980s. We were both a couple of fanatics about the movies. We talked, read, ate, drank, and slept the movies (and yes, we religiously watched siskel and ebert together every week on his living room tv). We tried to see every new movie that came out regardless of plot, genre (he loved horror movies, I preferred comedy), critics reviews, or who starred in it. And Rocky II as well as The In-Laws just happened to be a couple of the many new movies we saw that year because they just came out. I enjoyed both. There certainly was something magical about the movie theatergoing experience in itself in those years. Going to the movies every week in the 1970s-1980s with my best friend is among my most fondest, happiest memories of my entire life.

I have to admit that The Main Event is a guilty pleasure of mine. My mom was a big fan of Babs and she took me with her to see it in the theater when I was eight or nine. And it was a funny movie for me. Maybe not for everybody, but for me. I still like to watch it every once in a while. Last time I did I noticed something. Ernie Hudson from Ghostbusters and Len Lesser, Uncle Leo from Seinfeld, are in it. It's always fun when you catch something like that.

Rocky II was a good sequel. Escape from Alcatraz is one of the most underappreciated movies from the 70’s.

I'm wondering if Siskel and Ebert even knew that Clint Eastwood's character in the Alcatraz film was based on a real person? They didn't mention that in the review. Yes, the actual escape sequence was short, with an ambiguous ending, but that's because no one knows what really happened to the three. So there's only so much to filmmakers can do with that.

Wow. Three fantastic films! Rocky 2, The In-Laws and Escape From Alcatraz. If I was just a little older, I would have seen them in the theater, but alas, I got to watch them when they debuted on HBO a year later. I must have seen Rocky 2 & Escape atleast 20 times when I was 6 years old. HBO had them on a constant loop along with Hot Stuff, Just You & Me, Kid and Every Which Way But Loose! Good times. And I wonder if Gene's opinion on The In-Laws changed over time like it did for the original Rocky (which he didn't like so much). I know I didn't like it the first time I saw it, but later in life, it became one of my favorite films.

I saw it with my mom and we were Dying over that very part and whole film. Siskel had the personality of a Bowling Ball. He judged and evaluated films out of intellect and void of any emotion. He was also Tone Deaf in my opinion as he practically Never praised or hardly mentioned the Amazing and Underrated Scores and talented Composers. Fuck Siskel...and Fuck Ebert too. I Never needed their validation to enjoy a movie !

There is a split second where you can see Adrian working up her nerve to kiss Rocky, but then he slaps her on the shoulder like "hey buddy", and her face shows the recognition that he didn't let her realize her potential.

There was a real puppeteer named Senor Wences that used to do the hand thing and even called it Pepe (he wasn't funny but was popular for some reason0). In-laws and SP were both riffing on the same real dude.
