For story 4, everyone's at fault IMO. Being an older person, he obviously might not have realized that the dating space has changed from when he met his wife and just did what he did cause she looked like someone he felt comfortable with, which is still not an excuse for what seems like a really bad approach. On the other hand, saying no isn't a big deal. Instead, the waitress took a route that made him look like a creep for a seemingly innocent request. This is what men mean when they say they'd rather ask a lady out just cause being alone is better than allowing a woman to label them as a creep or a pervert The risks outweigh the benefits Last story: graduation is a big deal but meal plans shouldn't break or make it. The parents don't seem miserly as OP didn't mention being denied a lot of necessities and more. People may not realize how much one can save by cooking. If OP wants to have a celebration in a restaurant, offer to pay for it. I was denied a lot of unnecessary stuff when growing up and thought it was stupid back rhen, but now realize it was for the best
