As an adult, I had gotten used to no one celebrating my birthday. Then at the age of 56 while teaching English in Venezuela my students threw me a birthday party. 3 blocks of houses on the street where I lived were blocked off and every house had a table in front with food and drinks and over 1,000 people attended. Until that moment I had no idea what I had been missing my whole life. I am so happy this happened for this young lady. This birthday will cement in her heart what love is. Happy late birthday Charlotte and way to go community!

My daughter's birthday party was last weekend it was her first since her father left her life, she was turning 11. I shaved every penny as a single mom to give her a party at a bowling alley that's what she wanted I got one RSVP I had paid for eight kids the time for the party to start rolls around and there's nobody and I can see the panic in my daughter and I'm just reassuring her you know people are late sometimes but in my heart I'm freaking the f out I don't care about what I paid or whatever I just don't want my baby's heart to be broken. Slowly five of her friends trickled in so only two didn't come and one of the kids had his her brother and sister who were going to go on the other side and do it by themselves I was able to just throw them in the party too and they got all the fun stuff so it worked out okay but gosh that Mom panic about birthday parties is not talked about enough

Growing up I always had huge birthday parties with generally 10-15 friends. One year a girl in my class invited everyone and I’ll admit I didn’t really want to go but my mom RSVP’d that I’d go. I ended up getting two of my friends from the class to go with me and we were the only ones that showed up!! To this day I am thankful for my mom pushing me to go because seeing how happy it made her was worth it and I couldn’t imagine no one showing up.

Yes, your mom gave you a valuable life lesson there. I don't care if the kid is a dork or unpopular or whatever, if someone invites your child to a party and you can afford a gift then send your child with that gift and teach them that sometimes being a good person means spending two or three small hours of your life to make someone else happy. And sometimes really good things can come out of that. Not the least of which are empathy & good character.

I don't do birthdays. But then I'm a grown man, older than most who watch this. But a kid, especially one who has gone through the traumatic loss of a parent, needs something like this. A birthday celebration is a validation of how people value you as a human being, as their friend as a beloved member of the family. It isn't just a celebration of a milestone in your life. They are celebrating your existence. This is incredibly important for children especially when they see other children being celebrated. I am so glad this situation got fixed for this child.

Will never forget in 6th grade our lit teacher had us “interview” our parents to make a family tree. The next day she gave us red pens and told us to slash everyone’s names out and write about how we would feel if all our family died. There was at least 3 kids in my class who had lost family. She had 6 classes of different kids a day. My friend had lost his brother to self-harm right before the school year started. He spent the whole class crying. I hadn’t even lost anyone by then and I was panicking. I couldn’t do it. Went home and told my mom. She is not a dramatic person and never makes problems for teachers or admin. She and a bunch of other parents freaked the f out and ultimately were confused…. Like wtf would motivate a teacher to do such a “project” with 11-12 yr olds? The “project” suddenly disappeared and we got to watch a pg rated fun movie while the principal sat in the back of the class.

I'm 53, and I lost my mom 4 yrs ago to lung cancer. Well, this year, my 8 yr old granddaughters birthday wish was to see her Nanna. I have decided that for her birthday, I would start a tradition of her picking a restaurant and an activity instead of having a party because, yeah, there are a lot of mean people out there. But at the same time, there are many people who have a wonderful heart . I am glad her birthday ended up being a wonderful day.

I have a July birthday which meant that no one ever came to my birthday parties. Everyone was always away on vacation. It sucked. I always enjoyed when my teachers did a special summer birthday party in class.

The birthday party was magical!Heart-warming, fun all around and so many genuine people that came and gave some love. I really liked that so many connections were made that day and that Charlotte got this memory that she will never forget and forever cherish. Chloe is an AMAZING person, a GREAT sister and these two are so beautiful and are radiating hapiness or at least positiveness and love

It is so cool to see the positive side of social media. Love how everybody got together to give this little girl the best birthday party. It's also extremely admirable how Charlotte's big sister stepped right into the Mom role. She's showing her little sister that their mother's love lives on.

April 13th will be 10 years since my mom left us from brain cancer. They tried to operate but there were to many cancerous tumors and most were to deep to get to them...my Mom was/is a true fighter. I was lucky enough to take care of her in the last 3 1/2 months of her life. I miss her so much.

I have nothing but respect to all the single parents out there. I am the 2nd youngest out of 13 kids but the youngest out of all 9 boy's. We were all raised by a blind father our mother died giving birth to my youngest sister. Our father never got remarried or even dated another woman. It's hard to be a single parent so I praise all the single parents.

God works in such mysterious ways. I mean to have a baby come into this world…knowing what will be happening to that babies mom, and have her come to be in a family that has an older sister that can fill in and play that role, is so amazing. ❤

This brought out so many emotions. My parents were never in the position to throw us big parties, and that was always okay 💗 But I remember my 12th birthday, my parents saved forever to be able to rent our town pool for a few hours. I went to school and invited my whole class! I was PUMPED. Two people showed up 😔 I still remember the hurt, and it stings even decades later. I am so happy everyone showed up for her 💗 She deserves to have the happy memory 💗

My husband and I have always nurtured our friendships with people who have kids our children’s age. We all attend each other’s. They’ve never had to invite children from school to have plenty of children at the party. I get that this isn’t possible for every one. My heart goes out to them. I am grateful for “our village.”

Please stop chopping onions. We need more like those who stepped up to help create an unbelievable experience for this sweet little girl. As a child we did family celebrations for our birthday. I had 3 birthday that were the most memorable with the first one being my 7 th birthday. We had gone down to Florida where my Grandparents lived for Christmas and to visit extended family who lived there. My birthday is Jan 5th and my grandma wanted to make my day special. She asked what I wanted for my cake and what I wanted for dinner that night and she made all my favorite things with the help of my mother and her sisters who were also visiting. It was the first time that I had girlie pink decorations and presents in birthday paper and not Christmas paper which always felt like they just used one of my Christmas gifts as my birthday present. Everyone made it my special day which meant the world to me as a 7 year old. I can’t tell you how many times I had to share my birthday celebration and cake with my brother whose birthday is on Jan 7th. I wasn’t being some spoiled brat upset at having to share her birthday. I am far from it. I happen to be the #6 child of the 8 children my parents had and I love and am very close to most of the even with a 12, 10, 9, 5 year age gap between some of them. After that year Mom made a point to use birthday paper and a separate cake for each of us. I think it had happened that way because 3 of us had birthdays on the 2,5,7 and especially so soon after Christmas. The other 2 times were special because I got to have friends over for a sleepover and we got to make homemade pizza and other fun things.

I long ago accepted that I am probably a terrible person. One of my favorite pastimes is posting snarky comments (I am 46 years old, but never said that I was an adult) and arguing with people. This clip that young woman posted stopped me dead in my tracks, with tears running down my face. I hope that wonderful things happen for these girls.

I've always encouraged my daughter to go to parties she's been invited to. I can't stand the thought of a little one being sad on his/her birthday.
