Six people don't have their sisters with them... What a great bassline! Simple notes, funky feel and timing. I am learning it from your video. Thank you

Great cover! Only one little correction, the beginning of the slap fill should be C and C#, not C and D. Cheers

I'm not the first to make this comment but it's kinda weird how the whole notation is half a beat early - as if Florain is feeling the beat on the off-beat. At least it's consistently out the whole way through. Didn't stop me from learning the part so still a good job all round. Thanks

agree. If you listen to the drums, it is "off beat" too. I don't understand this tab at all

It's definitely a kick on the "rest" and the "one" of this tab. I think it's as correct as it can be. It's just clever Bernard Edwards/Nile Stuff as usual. The biggest technical giveaway that rappers delight isn't Nard/Nile is that the rip off guitarist and bassits don't syncapate enough on the up/downbeats. The only sample is that screaming orchestral part.

Standard string pop. Just make sure you choke the note immediately after to get that punchy sound.

What tune? A major?
@andiarbeithb
@andiarbeithb 2 жыл бұрын
@@academicosctichnacademicos6684 I think it´s in g minor. Can´t be A major because the second chord is a g minor chord. So it would be a ii-v-i in g minor in the verse. The original recording isn´t recorded in 440Hz tuning though, so it will sound off when you play along to that.

I think the tablature is off my like an eight not the down beat for that tonic note of each chord is on the off beat of the 4 not directly on it other wise it would match up with the four on the floor kick drum. And the second hit of that tonic note comes right with the snare so right on beat 2

On the chorus/main riff, you're holding the first note of each phrase (the last note in the measure) too long. Overall, all the notes are there, but your playing does not have the groove, feel, or flow Bernard gives us on the master track. And without that -- it just lays there. The verse section suffers the same lack of groove and flow: it's like you just dumped a pile of stuff on the table and said, "Here you go." They're just there. They're not "dancing," they're not doing anything. None of this makes me want to bop my head, or make that stanky face you get from hearing a funky-ass bass line. All I got from this is "this is where the notes are. This is where you put your fingers." (Thanks.) But this has NO SOUL. Look...the groove is in your fingers. LISTEN to the track and pay CLOSE attention to how some notes are held, some are longer or shorter than others, some are quick and staccato, others linger or tail off. Some notes are tied together and slide into each other, etc. And pay attention to SPACE, spacing, silence. Yes, ALL of this stuff is very subtle, but THAT'S the stuff that gives a bass line groove, and feel, and makes it flow oh, so funky. Note wise, this bass line is very simple. But like most bass lines that are deceptively simple -- there is a LOT going on here that makes it truly special. Don't just play the notes -- do a deep dive and FEEL each and every one of them. There's cool shyt going on all over the place with this bass line, and you've only scratched the surface.
