OP doesn’t see how bad it is. Her and her daughters feelings mean nothing to him. They both want the dog pic up *_(in her house),_* he doesn’t, so he takes it down, threatens the daughter, and starts the silent treatment (which is 100% emotional abuse). He is *_already abusive._* Please leave.

Imagine a parent giving each kid $100. One kid blows through it on candy and fast food. The other sacrifices their immediate wants for longer term goals. First kid begs second for their portion as well, because ……… family. First kid also has shit on second one for years. Imagine the depth of lack of character, common sense, decency and sad to say, love, that fist person has for the second. Sad thing is everyone reading the OP post knows EXACTLY what will happen if the OP gives the money. The fact that OP is asking strangers on the internet a no-brainer, is concerning that she might do it. We can expect a “my bitch manipulative sister and her asshole husband (which everyone knows about), borrowed money from me, didn’t pay it back and continue to be awful to me, what should I do?’ Follow-up post.

BUT, since they hadn't re-examined anything until this past year, i (now over 40, TYVM) was supposed to be handed over to my MOTHER'S parents (both of whom have been dead for over a decade) for guardianship... so yeah... The first story - OP’s sister needs to contact the hospital and ask about what options for funding, grants and other options to afford the surgery. The sister did not plan. Her husband was chronically ill a year ago and she should have planned. The picture of the dog - put the dog picture up and ditch the fiancé. The heirloom story - this story was in another sub and there was SOOO much more than the heirloom but also the house that they live in. Kate left the house to the kids along with the heirloom. The OP ends up giving the heirloom to his son to hang on to. The new wife is pissed. She wants the house too and that isn’t happening.

These days, the answers are going to be close to nothing, if not nothing at all. COVID has severely screwed up the available options that weren't sufficient to begin with for those who were under/uninsured. Grant money only refreshes at the beginning of the year - when it's gone, it's gone. And if you so much as get a job at McDonald's making more than 24k per year (single person, add 4K for each additional dependant) you're screwing yourself out of any Medicrap that might be available. Chances are, if she would have sold everything a year ago, they would have still turned her down due to their account balance. Sister's an AH, but you have a really black and white view of a complex situation that I'm guessing you often tell people is 'so easy' to get assistance with (and it really, really isn't, hence why people die due to lack of access to insulin because they're 50$ short and on assistance all the fucking time in the US).

Story 3 YES you would be the AH, I can’t believe new wife is saying she’s that girl’s only mum - no, her only mum died and left her one heirloom to her one daughter. not to her husband’s new wife’s daughter. I totally agree with the brother that everyone should leave the party if he were to give it to Sarah Edit to add, if I were the Claire in this story, I would absolutely be so heartbroken and betrayed by my dad if he gave away MY necklace from MY dead mother to someone else. My mum is actually dead too and i do have a “step mum” technically altho I only consider her my dad’s wife, so while my family doesn’t have a similar situation going on, I can really really relate to this one

Its very possible that the "cars & luxurious stuff" that OP says her sister spent her inheritance on are modified for her husbands health conditions. Wheelchair vans & stair lifts, for example, might seem "unnecessary" to someone who has never experienced disabilities, but they are quite expensive, necessary for many disabled to be able to stay involved in their family's lives & may even make it possible to retain employment. These modifications also aren't covered by insurance usually. Just an example of how OP could be spinning the story in her favor.

Did Kate even have anything to do with the adopted daughter? My mother's adopted and yes, she received family heirlooms but it was from *both* her parents who adopted her. It's crazy how this woman thinks her child is entitled to something from a woman who had nothing to do with the child. Honestly, OP should give it to the son for keepsake or make sure it is in a safe deposit because that woman felt so entitled to something that wasn't even part of her family's tradition so I don't trust her not taking it.

1. NTA That brother in law disparaged OP's father's illness, caused a scene at the funeral and refused to allow OP to live with them. Now they want OP's inheritance for a surgery they should have been prepared for due to the nature of the jerks illness. If they can't afford the surgery, they can't afford to pay OP back within a year. They can sell their vehicles and apply for help through the govt. If his disability is so bad, why isn't he collecting disability and getting medical benefits too? 2. Who is the childish and spiteful one? Who moves into someone's home and starts acting that way? I would consider telling him to get the F out now after that nonsense. To take my child's picture off the wall and the to threaten that it will go away for good? Nope, nope, nope. It's NOT his house also. He's an interloper. And another reason I won't date again. lol 3. That heirloom has no connection to the stepdaughter. That new wife is out of her gourd to think that her daughter should get it.

Even in the USA with our crappy health system. No one would be denied medically necessary surgery to survive. If one cannot afford it, they will work a payment plan with you. Or the state will take over and pay the bill for you if you are shown to be unable to pay at all. So that's bull her sister just wants her money.

Unless the surgery is elective, she doesn't need to be able to pay. They can't deny you surgery if you need it just because you can't pay. Definitely do not pay for this surgery if he wouldn't let you live with them. He's a garbage person. She can sell her car and downsize her place.

Really depends on the situation. They can and will absolutely demand you pony up for the cost of surgeries and medical devices (ask me how much fun getting the cost of an LVAD together for my uncle was because Medicaid denied it) needed for chronic conditions in the US. The only obligation that any medical care facility has is to stabilise you during an acute event.
