I am not too far in with the video, I have had my locs for 5 years now, and didn't use anything in them for the first 4 years. I must say, once your locs are mature, you can use products. By products ...I mean...I use jojoba oil and some lavender. Location is key, I live on an island currently and when I fly back to the states, my hair is soooooo dry (it normally dry anyway), and lets not even talk about he winter time...then I do use the regimen put up by ....i can't remember her name right now. Also I do spritz my hair, but I have low porosity hair so...it really depends on you. Also I wash weekly because I have really bad dandruff and it helps to keep it under control. Any who, that is just my 2 cents.

AWESOMENESS! Very good Information. I'll add that braiding and banding is a part of the grooming process, but is most important to prevent slippage.

Many people have pattern 4 I really would love to see someone with pattern 3 Who has had them for at least 6 years I’ve heard they give a bouncier softer look!
@missnelle9225 жыл бұрын
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 Branding and banding is important to avoid slippage during washing, but I've found thru experience that it's just as important to avoid bunching while drying! I used to braid n band to wash, but then take them out so it would dry faster anddd it gave me some extra volume. However, like our loose natural hair, that's when it shrinks the most... during drying! So I learned that lesson the hard way, but I was surprised my loctician never mentioned it to me when discussing washing.
@JustAudria5 жыл бұрын
So you leave yours braided until it dries?
@missnelle9225 жыл бұрын
Just Audria yes I was for the first almost 2 years after I corrected the bunching. I'll be locked 2yrs in April and I've JUST stopped leaving it braided and banded last month.
@mogulmade5 жыл бұрын
I let mine dry that way too. 🎉 I stopped for two washes and I realized the difference immediately. For me it's the only way to get a good twist out...but with over 600 locs even braiding & banding is a task!

DC-Raiyne, please talk to me because my last install was 407 locks and some were actually big. Like skinny lock next to a big one. I want them to be more uniform so I was thinking 450, 500 as the max. I have a small head and very thick hair. Are you spending forever getting retightened?

I wanted to know my number bc I just wanted to know how many were in my head. But I'm a big believer if a person has very thin hair they are not going to have a lot locs. if they were done by a consultant, with the sl tool, and the grid and part is correct they should still be consider sisterlocks. You cannot produce all of these locs in someone head if they dont have it. For me. I have natural thick hair. My hair is still full. I feel like my sisterlocks got fuller. I have been locked for over 7 1/2 years.

NaturalNikkiDST right!!! Mine are small, i have a small head and my hair is NOT super thick and i think i have like 289-300 locs but if she made them any smaller it would’ve been like 3 strands of hair per loc 😫😫😫

Great video! I am on my 10th year with Sisterlocks and I love the freedom. I still band and braid before washing my locks. Definitely when washing my locks before my retight and when I feel a lot of new growth. I find that banding and braiding my locks allows me to massage my scalp better when washing.

I’m thinking that as my Sisterlocks get longer I may go back to braiding & banding so that I can get to my scalp better. I washed my just below the shoulder length locks in the shower last week and it was a little tedious to get to my scalp the way I wanted to.
@kenotestyle1115 жыл бұрын
Msdeev1 H get you a spray bottle for your shampoo that’s what I use so I can spray directly on my scalp
@mogulmade5 жыл бұрын
I agree, depending on the thickness of your hair it's imperative to braid. It's hard to see my scalp even after a retightening, a spray bottle is sometimes just not enough.

I know that in my case I only am curious about how many locs - or for that matter even braids or twists are on someone's head when I like the general size or how they turned out. Naturally I know that a person's hair coarseness and density affects the overall look as well, but it's nice to just have some size ranges so if I want to do my own hair or get them done, I have an idea of what I'm looking for at that time.

I am just seeing this video. I have a question. I have 2 sets of locks on each side of my head that have 3 combined locks. My locks are very fine. My loctician could not fix them because she did not want them to fall out because the root is sooo fine. My hair is super fine at the to and front of my head. I feel like like starting over again because my front have several areas that have 2 combined locs I started Retightening my hair in December. This is why I ended up having so many combined locs.

I am a certified lotician, you are suppose to have at least 400 locs, that's what they are taught. Only exception if you have a particular cut on the sides of back, than it should be at least 300. You should contact sister lock.com for more information. Good luck sister.

Thank you! I will speak to my consultant first and then take it from there. But I'm considering combing my locks out to start over elsewhere. I've learned that the technique my consultant used is wrong as well. She locked the the ends and the roots and left the middle unlocked on majority of my locks which has caused my locks to be thick and frizzy in the middle.@@bj77755
