The "fatty ends" (budding) are a perfectly natural and normal part of the loc'ing process. They're supposed to thicken up gradually and that process begins at the ends of the hair and works its way up. It's sad you didn't enjoy the thickening stage, I love watching my ends close up, seal, and thicken 🥲.

Nah, cause i know EXACTLY what she's talking about. They don't "thicken" up to the roots. When your ends are left loose and curly, it's cute at first, lots of compliments, etc but then they eventually loc at that same diameter. The diameter of the natural curl which is bigger than the microloc. So you end up with locs that are fat at just the end.

Thank you so much for sharing! I’m new to sister locks & already knew going in that I would be breaking the strict sisterlocks rules… such as not use any “oils” on your scalp. I’ve been using my own set of light oils & essential oils since day one. I refuse to all of a sudden stop taking care of my scalp after I have all my life. I also noticed that the sisterlocks brand & some consultants don’t want to take accountability for giving bad advice. It’s like you have a rash on your arm & you do nothing, but it only gets worse & turns into an infection. No way. So my scalp only itches minor when it’s time for a wash… my consultant has been trying to figure out what I’ve been doing, I just say rose water because she’s really strict and I have absolutely no build up. Never ever ever saturate your locs in oil. I used my blended oils in 3 parts water and only put on my scalp.

my sisterlocks got thick at the ends too. so, if it helps anyone - 1 thing you can do is start rolling your ends with your fingers (like traditional lock rolling method) and eventually the thickness will condense, stretch, and thin out.
@mortalwombat783 жыл бұрын
Yes yes. That's exactly what I've been doing. The end is no longer thick now. It's like wringing it and stretch it out. Looks longer too.

I asked the question in her comment section and she kindly and promptly replied, she told me not to cut them, she also had them at some point at the 2 years mark and that it will get better! I am so grateful she replied, I stopped focusing on them ( head coverings due to Covid in the hospital helped a lot) now The fatties are HISTORY!

I have thick dense hair and I had 654 sisterlocs which took 3 days over 40 hours to install. It was never my intention to self retie. However after Ronna hit I had to self retie. Luckily I used to have traditional locs and used to interlock so I was able to do them myself but it took such a longgggg time. I also lost a few as they were too small and I decided to combine and I still have a full head of hair. Whilst I think your SL were beautiful I can honestly say I'm glad that that hair was not on my head. I can sympathies with how much hair you had and I remember what your locs looked like and the video when you spoke about how much hair you had and how difficult it was to put it up. I know that if my hair was the same I would have taken them down. I also agree with the fat ends and you're correct, Greenthought also had the same issue. At the moment my SL are just about long enough for a messy bun but I know that I'm not looking to grow my locks past my shoulder and not into butt crack length locs as more hair for me means more problem. I'm hoping I can keep my locs as I'm a low maintenance kind of girl and if my locs start to become a problem they will get cut and I will revert to very short natural hair as I'm not going back to having hair long enough to put in two strand twist. Good luck with the pregnancy's and thank you for keeping it real and you said you would keep the SL for 2years and then decide

So I have a lot of the curly ends at the end of my locs too. My locs are for the most part similar in sizing from roots to ends. Been locked 26 months. One way I found helped me was to keep on braiding and banding to wash. I still braid and band and would continue till I’m fully loc’d just to prevent the fat ends. That was my biggest fear w/my sisterlocks.

The point you make about dry scalp is such an important one too! It can be so dreadful until you find something that actually works for you and we are all so different. My daughter has sisterlocks and her scalp is living and loving it’s best life! I do moisturise her scalp and locs every 4 days or so but she’s good to go! I wash her locs every 2 weeks or so to keep them clean and build up free. Mine on the other hand has been a nightmare and continues to be a work in progress

I have noticed that lots of persons get the go ahead to wash Sisterlocks while loose, where they should actually still braid and band. Once ends are open, when the maturity starts to happen, that’s actually the time to stick to braiding and banding until they seal to prevent the bunching. I am almost 2 and a half years locked and still braid and band religiously to keep my ends in order, I have loose curls and over time I’ve had unraveling so I do what to have to do to keep them trained. Beautiful hair either way, and congratulations on your pregnancy. 💜

Congratulations on baby ❤️💕🥰 I took down my first set of sisterlocks due to how they were forming - they were bunching and different sizes and all kinds, it was upsetting. It was such a relief getting them out. I had them for about 15 months and it took about 20 hours to take out near 500 locs but I had help from a friend who does hair and we used a drawing pin - took about 20 minutes per loc takedown. I got my second set put back in after 2 weeks as I’m not about that loose life, I’m far too lazy 🙈😣😂 Now I’m on my second set of locs and things are much better, more consistency all the way - some bunching but now I know how to deal with it and my consultant also keeps on track with it - totally different set of locs. I still band and braid 15 months into this journey and I think that makes a huge difference due to my hair type. Glad to hear you’re enjoying your loose natural hair. It’s good for people to know that there are options and locs don’t have to be permanent if you’re not happy or just want to change it up. I agree with you, it is just hair at the end of the day. Thank you - I enjoyed this video.

I just transitioned to Sisterlocks. I had traditional locs for 4 years and was so tired of the frizz. I'm loving my locs so far as it looks so much neater. In the brief time I had loose natural hair I didn't want to comb it lol. I think that's the only reason why I will stay locked 😅 Your reasons are so valid though, because I know once locs get longer it can get time consuming. Plus drying time is longer. With tiny locs I don't have patience to do them myself so that's another con. Congratulations on your pregnancy and enjoy your hair! ❤🤰🏽

I am actually in the same predicament right now.😅 Started my micro locks in august 2020 and ended up with 577 tiny micro locks. The upkeep was impossible and my retightened lasted 15 days. But the worst part was how my interlocks where so skinny especially at the roots and my twisted ends so big. My locks were not uniform at all ,which is what I wanted initially. All that to say, that it’s been two months since I’ve been taking down my locs since they are so small. Did you ever get frizz, if so, how did you control it?
@JustAudria3 жыл бұрын
Omg yes. It started out from bad to worse. I don’t think I ever controlled it. Keep your hair braided while it dries. Maybe that will help.

My hair has done the same exact thing. 😒 I hate the fat ends. I have cut some one the fat ends, but they are getting fat again. I feel like it will be battle that I will never win. Thanks for the share.

Awww. I really hate that. I’m seeing a lot of feedback that a consultant can fix the bunching at the ends. 💕good luck

Welp my texture is a lot like yours. I’m about 17 mths in and not locked. I have the little corkscrew ends. Guess the fat ends may happen to me too😭😭😭
@JustAudria3 жыл бұрын
Nooooo maybe not. I had a few trials during quarantine. I’m thinking I should have continued to braid and band.
@two2tango2223 жыл бұрын
@@JustAudria 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 I will continue to braid and band for sure now and pray for the best outcome for my what I’ve invested in. Much peace love and success to you and yours!

How did you style your hair during the take down process to disguise the unlocked hair?
@JustAudria3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t go anywhere. But I started in the back so I just pulled it back in a ponytail.
