Congrats! I know how you feel I couldn’t wait to hit my 1 year mark with my Sisterlocks. Funny after I hit that I didn’t even think about it anymore. I’m 19 months in now and like you I’m delighted with my Sisterlocks. My locks have grown like crazy. I took the retight class and I’ve done my own for about 3 months now but like you I’ve decided for at least the next 3-4 retights I’m gonna go back to my consultant. It’s good to know how to do your own but nothing like having a pro do it.

Simone of Beauty Coliseum did my first installation of sisterlocks back in 2006, or so. I did not follow through with maintenance, etc., because of life changes, so transitioned to microlocks. She did an awesome job. She is such a beautiful person. And apparently ageless! Still gorgeous, I see! ~ Thanks for sharing your journey 🌸🙏🏽🌼

Congrats!! 🎊🎈🎉🍾!! Your hair will be mid back length by this time next year. Also get a small squeeze bottle to put your shampoo in so can put the shampoo directly on your scalp. I just read an article saying add like a tablespoon of sugar to your shampoo to exfoliate your scalp. Only do it like once a month, but it helps clean your scalp and it dissolves so it gets out of your hair easily. I’m trying it on my son tonight.

I can’t testify if it helped his flakes because he doesn’t like for me to wash his hair (he’s 16) so he was rushing me. However his hair was a lot softer and felt less stripped after using dandruff shampoo.

Use Aloe the plant cut a piece off use on scalp leave on ur scalp for about and hour wash hair as normal will get rid of dandruff try to keep scalp moist with oil products I use carrot serum for hair

So excited for you! It has grown so much. Its gorgeous. Ive been watching your journey since the beginning. Sisterlocks has dandruff shampoo and dandruff spray on their website. I have both products and they def help. I wash with the dandruff shampoo first, then follow with the starter lock shampoo then I spray the danfruff spray on my scalp once done. I also have the sisterlocks moistutizer, and i use that last. Then I sit under the dryer and let dry 😄. I do all this with my hair braided and banded. Hope this helps you. Im 3 months in with my locks and loving every moment. (All these were recommendations from my loctician)

dandruff is a fungus buy a certain shampoo its a blue bottle ( its a few bucks) wash your hair leave it in for 10 mins ( have a timer) wash every other day ( 10 washes max ) check after 4 to 5 washes

Great subject - maybe some people don’t need any product because heir scalp can handle business but I do. I use jojoba oil and almocado shampoo for stage 1 sisterlocks. My scalp cannot cope, I have a condition and I have to take care of my headpiece! I also have to wash every 7-10 days at present to take good care of it as my scalp gets extremely dry in patches after 3 days.

Just as a heads up, it's not dandruff your experiencing. That's the bulb of your hair, its white. When you lose hair, normally it just drops or is combed out. With locs, it grows down and you van just see the bulbs throughout. My daughters is the same way, I tried EVERYTHING until i found a video explaining it. You can do a temporary color to color the bulbs if it really bugs you.

when did you start washing @ home & what was the process & products? do you have a video on banding? and how did you learn how to retighten (videos, stylist ). I'm about 2 months in & having some difficulty with itchy scalp/dandruff & dryness. i have a 2nd retwist scheduled in a couple of weeks unsure if she will wash again or not. inquiring about cleaning/maintain process in between appts. I'm also planning to move out of state in a couple of weeks so will have to get readjusted. I'm currently not using any product except witch hazel to esse the itch - helps slightly.

*cracks knuckles* -I washed my hair at home right before my first reti. It was still really cold when I got my locs installed so not a lot of sweating going on or anything like that. -I do have an older video on braiding and banding but I do the same thing today. Here ya go: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rV6pgYqlntOMb6s -I learned to retighten my locs by watching a lot of youtube and reading a couple of articles. I pretty much searched "Sisterlock self reti" and everything was there. I also got my rotation info from my consultant and got her blessing before attempting on my own. -I combatted my itchiness in the beginning with a few drops of peppermint oil. Be careful though if you go this route. I'd also let your consultant know about your dry scalp. I'm sure she'll have a better solution for you👍🏾 -When my scalp became unbearable between retis, I just washed it. I think I turned out ok but ask your consultant on what you should do!😊 -I haven't heard of witch hazel for itchy scalp! I'll have to look into this Super long (& late) response but I hope this helps!!

I'm in the Philly area so I'll keep Beauty Coliseum in mind as a back up. My consultant is in Delaware and I love her! But it's nice to have a backup. Question: Do your retie's hurt? I've heard several ladies on YT talk about having to take Tylenol prior to their appointment because of how painful their retie's are. I'm amazed by that because mine has never hurt. Does yours?
