@@Honeyluvflwer In real life, there was no case for the father to get custody because the teenagers didn't receive the abuse depicted in the movie. That is make-believe to make the attackers seem like the victims.

That mother was not worth the ten years from their life. All their relatives including their dad that watch them going through hell and did nothing should be charged with negligence and the social worker and teachers that didn’t step to help should be charged of not doing their job. They all waited a crime to take place. That mother wasn’t worth a day in prison.

One became a scientist, the other a lawyer. Personally, I think they could see the boyfriend would become even more violent with the little brother, and their Aunt and Father didn’t care, or were willfully blind. What options are you left with as a kid, when adults don’t care, no one listens, and you are scared you and your sister will be SA, and your baby brother will be violently abused, while your apathetic addict of a mother, does nothing. I don’t blame the girls, or the other two, but I do blame the mother, and the other adults. I am happy the young ladies are free, living a good life.

Yes, but doing nothing could also have ended up badly for them. They potentially had to endure physical, psychological and s*xual abuse from the mother's boyfriend for at least a year until they were of age and could leave for good (still having to leave the little brother behind). They seeked help, they tried to do things "the right way", and not even their own father cared to do anything. They were cornered, and I don't blame them one bit for what they did to survive.
