Interestingly enough, guilt and fighting without armour sort of do go together, at least from personal experience. When I got started with gladiatura (very little armour), my random guilt moments, guilt fits really, because of depression were a lot more severe, and you should have seen me go. There is something about throwing yourself in there as good as naked (okay, we have helmets, helmets are a great thing), although I don't really have the words to say what it is. As an afterthought, I wouldn't mind an eviscerator.

Except for the new repentia that have modern styled sports bras and shorts. Instead of the totally unsexualized, bolt on scriptured zealots of 3rd-8th edition, we now have Karens in workout shorts. GW went full PC on repentia. Now they are pretty much gym chicks with chainesaws. They took the entire feel of the model and story away. At least to me.

When a Repentia squad is bound for you, sex is the last thing you think about (for Slaneeshis, that still holds true, albeit in a completely different way). More muscle, more scars, less lipstick is needed. They may not be gene-augmented, but you can bet your blessed behind they're going to stuff them with steroids.

Secret, lingering guilt can demoralize a unit. Open, directed guilt has been known to create institutions like this one. People desperate for absolution, even - or especially - at the cost of their own lives. The human mind is a complicated, sometimes terrible thing. Great look at this topic. As always your story telling is sublime, but what struck me most tellingly was your (your description, not mine) waffle. The base line of the dark mirror to our world, propped up by giggling hippies, showing something impossible, ridiculous and lost in excess, but still somehow pointing out how true that is here as well. I like the Repentia quite alot. Especially the design that have piercings and hooks tearing their skin. While the old models are... Attractive, to say the least, especially to those of us who like women, they Always felt wrong for 40k. They are hot, but they shouldn't be. They are fanatics, who failed the emperor. Why shouldn't they be punished more than just sent into battle basically nude? They would expect more than that. Many, if not most might even *want* more than that. It makes more sense to me, that they would be tortured even if it's willingly. While you could argue that they would punish themselves mentally, while they most certainly would, that's *most definitely* not the way of the Imperium. Failure is punished most harshly in the Imperium especially among the most zealous of the emperors servants. Going into battle nude is definitely a punishment, but is it a punishment enough? I know that's not the actual topic of the video, but Ive also thought it was an interesting topic, ever since I first heard of it. It's a really good glance into how 40k functions in my opinion. Either way, great video Sir Baldy! As always.

They are taken from the one thing that most humans fundamentally need and that is the family they build before exile, they willingly walk into a prison of their own making and leave the Emperor and the servant He chose to oversee your redemption in charge of the key, and you may only regain what you once had after you are long dead and can no longer have the life you willingly gave up for exile. Exile that is a guaranteed death sentence, wielding a blade that is unfathomably heavy and requires perfect use of to actually fight the enemy, your scars from flagellation a self written and inflicted confession of your sin. Even if you survive, you show the world that you had the weakness to fall, the weakness to be unfaithful, to be unworthy. Hope this helped

My brother and his son played a game a month ago. His SoB vs his son's Tyranids. Turn 1 the tyranids charged 18 genesteallers into a rhinotank. They failed to kill it. The rhino unloaded the repentia and no genestealler survived. 2 turns later they charged into old one eye and he did not survive either. The match ended shortly after that.

The old look made more sense. The Repentia were completely nude, save the seals and scriptures quite literally nailed and stapled to them. Its as if the Repentia of modern times have seen original sin and found their own shame. The old Repentia had an excuse for being mostly nude. They stripped themselves and only relied on the Emperor's forgiveness to release them from their guilt and sins. Modern(8th-9th ed), politically correct Repentia are not only the opposite of that but also an affront to the very same movement that they sought to placate. This is because they are now, instead of being crazed self sacrificing zealots with no care for self preservation, a force of metal bikini clad, steam-punk-push-up-bra wearing women. Previously, their countance was pretty interesting, but also repulsive. Now, Games Workshop, playing on modesty and trying to be politically correct, has actually sexualized them in a way that they never were. The models and art make the reader focus on what would otherwise be covered by nailed on parchment. What wasn't an issue before is now awkward in the expression of the model and literature because every Repentia on the gaming table is a D cup, fitness model physique, woman that is fearcely loyal, but aware of her own sexuality. It was never an issue for 5 editions, then GW decided that crazed women wearing nothing but scriptures was politically incorrect in a universe where whole worlds are butchered to the laughter of the dark gods. Look at the old art compared to the new art. Old Repentia looked like the crazed monsters that they are. They came in every size and shape because they were, in NO WAY sexual, they were portrayed as the suicidal zealots that they are in the story. They were crazed religous fanatics. Now, they are sexualized, brass bra, Victoria Secret models with a scowl on their face. I have no problem with that, but if GW is going to try to be politically correct, then they should be more mindful of how they correct issues that never existed. TLDR: The new repentia models are lame. They fit the modern cultural narative that has taken over the west, but they don't fit into 40k.

I agree. The change makes no sense, unless it’s done for political correctness…but 40k doesn’t seem like the place for political correctness, especially if you read about 40k lore.
