“El Gato Feo” -- a Spanish language, western drama short film about two estranged sisters, Luisa and Adelita. In 1915 Mexico, Luisa runs for her life from Pancho Villa's Army. She encounters Adelita, the leader of a small, military unit of women, who must decide if she will hold on to her resentments towards Luisa or help her sister cross the Rio Grande River into Texas.

@@ohnotigerflowers The women inspired me! Honestly, in 2020, I was looking for a fresh character that I could place in a "classic American western" setting. In my research about the Texas Border Wars, I discovered a lot about the soldaderas and the revolution. I felt compelled to write about them. I have so many books on the topic now! And, to say the least, my own Latino heritage definitely influenced me as well. The story of the cat and the prayer are both elements I took from my father's upbringing.

My great grandmother fled Mexico to America during the war. She had several children in Texas. Then returned back to her home in Mexico,which is close to El Rio Grande. Also, my ancestry lineage from both my parents is from Texas & Mexico ( el Rio Grande) . The indigenous people lived near the Rio grande and migrated between Texas and Mexico. I’m 67% indigenous and I was shocked when I received my dna results. The history of my ancestors seems so distant but it is not . Thank you for your short film 🎥. I really enjoyed it and please bring more history to your viewers .

My grandmother was in the tick of things in the revolution. moving from town to town with my great grandmother and grand aunts and their children. Somehow they survived the revolution and some what the Spanish flu losing in the proses 5 of her children in one week due to it. While my grandfather was fighting in the revolution. The stories that she told us are so sad and others amazing. They were very brave women❤

Dang! It’s insane how there’s people alive who had close relatives born so long ago. My grandpa was born in the 30’s and he’s sadly passed away already. Even learning about Mexico in the 50’s-70’s is crazy. There were still shootouts and girls getting kidnapped to be claimed by men who liked them. I love learning about our relatives. Praying you can find a way to learn your history ❤

Nice story, just the acting, although it was a great effort lacks authenticity because of the English accent in Spanish (the sisters clearly are not Spanish native speakers). Native speakers don’t talk like that. The scriptwriter is probably Chicano/pocho.

They were also called (@ least the ladies who fought with Villa) Las Valentinas or the "Valiant ladies", my Great Grandmother on my father's side was one, and my Great Grandfather was a "Dorado" or "Golden one", meaning one of Villas Personal guard. And it is true that HOW you viewed him depended largely on what side of the conflict you were on.

This should be a lesson to all those who talk easily of revolution and causes and also all those in power who do not see their people suffering. Right and wrong and justice becomes blurred in war, especially civil wars. I am an historian and Mexico has had many civil wars in it's history even when they threw off the tyrannies of both Spain and France. Stability in Mexican government is rare. Sometimes foreign powers are to blame, sometimes not. Before WWII, Germany tried to stir up trouble to attack the U.S. When I took a Spanish class, my professor told me this. The President is elected for three years, the first year he pays off the national debt, the second year he runs the government justly and the third year he and his party steals from the people knowing they won't be reelected.
@39MercFlathead
@39MercFlathead 6 ай бұрын
Is there some point in your comments other than seeing your name on a computer screen? You took "a Spanish class" and that makes you an expert on this story? You are not much of a historian and your Spanish professor didn't know much about Mexico. Presidents of Mexico are elected for a single 6 year term. Some administrations have worked to reduce the national debt, but it has never been paid off and certainly could never be paid off in a single year. Actually, according to INEGI (Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía) over the past 50 years the trend has been for the national debt to increase at about 2% per year and is currently a little over $1 trillion US dollars or approximately 56% of the Producto Interno Bruto (Gross Domestic Product in English).

My grand parents had to leave mexico because of the Mexican revolution. In 1910 they were in their thirties. Grandfather died at eighty years old in 1959. And grand ma died in at eighty one in 1960. That gives you a time line to anyone claiming to be a big hero in the Mexican revolution.
