Love your podcasts, I always look forward to listening to you both. You inspire me with your projects and I love how you're progressing with your folk costume can hardly wait to see you in them. Arne I really liked the idea of sewing the blocks back to back so it looks like double knitting just brilliant. Anyways hope you both keep well and stay warm. I'm enjoying summer in Queensland Australia. Take care now

In these days when I'm alone during the day while my husband is at work, it is so nice to invite you both into my living room to sit and knit with me. It is hard not to have my grandchildren over to visit and spend the night. Love the tiger-themed outfits today! Meanwhile, I'm so glad that as a community we all provide each other with so much lightness and positivity. You two lead by example with your graciousness, humour and kindness. I especially value the way you have tackled the occasional "not so positive" stuff that has come up in such a warm and compassionate way. It means that the Arne & Carlos family is a safe place - even if we sometimes have different opinions or worldviews.

Clues in your episode: The folk costumes (episodes about creating your own costumes); the plant (episode about bringing the plant indoors); the 2 butterfly pictures (episodes where butterfly pattern squares were shown for us to knit); the mug with your faces on it (episode about creating your own merchandise mugs). Not sure but maybe the 'X' shapes in the mirrors/windows (episode about the XO motifs in the Norwegian churches), also maybe the wild animal in the jersey is a clue pointing to the episode where you were in the forest and worried about the hunters shooting you? Thanks for the interesting episode!

When you were talking about ironing and linen, it got Ma and I talking about when I was little. She used to iron everything, linens, baby clothes, Daddy's coveralls for work and more. I remember this huge green glass bottle for water with a sprinkler cap that she dampened everything with and then put them in a bag. There was spray starch for some things but there was also sugar and water used for the doilies she crocheted. The ironing board had a thick pad made of flannelette and cotton sheets and an ironing cloth used for steaming. It was nice to remember. Thank you for that.

Oh, how I enjoyed your comment! Your details bring back so many memories of watching my mother and grandmother iron. My mother would iron on Saturday afternoons while listening to the radio broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera in NYC. She had that same type of ironing board cover, sprinkling bottle, spray starch, and white handkerchiefs for steaming. And sometimes there were her tears to help with the sprinkling, because she would cry during the opera. Now my grandmother had a funny incident with her can of spray starch. She got it confused with her hair spray, and sprayed her hair with starch one Sunday morning while getting ready for church. As she got older little goofs like that would happen. She once fried chicken in the 1950s household cleaner called "Handy Andy" because she mixed up that bottle with her bottle of cooking oil.

What a joy it is to sit for a bit with you both. We (UK) are entering Lockdown 2 and every bit of positivity and laughter is very much needed. Hopefully your yarn supplier is still doing online orders, as I hope my fabric one will do. In the meantime, kind regards to you both and thank you for giving us a window into Norwegian culture.

Hi! Love your podcast. I think the "buttonhole" thing at the base of the neck opening is actually a "bar tack" which is the top (or bottom) of a normal buttonhole. Kindest regards!

I am a new subscriber from Minnesota. We have a lot of scandinavian people here! I am part Finnish and part Danish. I studied design/textiles at the Univ. of MN. I love knitting this time of year and have just found you! I also visited Kate's channel per your recommendation. I left a comment on her page and a woman from MN replied to me! I wanted to let you know what a good job you are doing, connecting people during this trying time. It is a good feeling or a thumbs up from me. I am a teacher of knitting and crochet but love to keep learning and getting ideas. The story was WONDERFUL today, and I might have to borrow it for my grandkids.

I have family from Cornwall, England who emigrated to Minnesota to farm, other emigrated to Michigan & Montana and worked in the mines there. Some of them married Finns move on in time to three years ago and my eldest son married a Finn. In addition my children have a Swedish gg-grandfather on their dad's side, he was a mariner from southern Sweden who left his ship in England and married an English girl.

@@expatpiskie Hi Sue, well, let's just be cousins then! My maternal grandma's line is from England. I enjoyed Arne's genealogy story today and have done some research myself. I often wonder where my traits have come from: my interest in design, textiles and singing, which are 2nd nature to me. These gifts had to have been developed and passed along I think. The Finns on the iron range in northern Minnesota were miners. I also had a ship's captain in the English line. Thanks for the note!
