ARNE & CARLOS

3 жыл бұрын

This week, we are back in the kitchen for a cooking episode. We will show you how to make the two porridges that were in the centre of Porridgegate scandal that emerged during lockdown last March, when Arne announced he actually didn’t like porridge. Where are we at now? You’ll have to see this episode to find out! As an added bonus you will learn how to make porridge.
The recipes are available in this weeks blog post at https:arnecarlos,com

Hi Everyone! We are glad we decided to send this episode unedited. Such fun! For all who are asking, we have done some research and it looks like buttermilk is indeed the equivalent to Norwegian sour milk

The drama! I was on the edge of my seat waiting for Arne's verdict on the cold porridge - Will He Like it or Not?? Meanwhile, you two are hilarious first thing in the morning: "that's a bread knife!" .... "I don't think the pear knows the difference." "I might finish your knitting before you finish those pears.""I seriously hope you didn't cough on my pears." 🤣🤣 So glad you didn't edit all that out. This was a great start to a Sunday, and of course I had porridge for breakfast in your honour - with cashew butter, apples & ginger.

Every time Arne giggled I giggled (he's contagious). If you would like to add another porridge to your menu options, mine is much less ambitious but easy and delicious (maybe you do it when you don't have so much energy, Carlos?): Put the steel-cut oats in a dry pan over the heat and toast them for a few minutes, stirring around (don't walk away, especially from your stove there which is the fastest one I've ever seen, OMG). Then put in your 4 parts water to 1 part of the oats, your pinch or two of salt, and just when the water is coming to a boil and you're going to turn it down to simmer, throw in a handful of dried blueberries (not the freeze-dried kind but the good ones you can eat right out of the package). The dried blueberries are like magic because they soften and plump up during the cooking but will not break down and get mushy in there like fresh ones would. At the end we add butter and maple syrup at the table. Thank you for the breakfast fun!

Somehow I don't think Porridgegate is resolved. This might need to be decided in The Hague. Try my oatmeal recipe: Swedish style oatmeal (50% rolled oats and 50% finely ground oatmeal) When this is cooked it is so creamy it tastes like heavy cream has been added. I top it with sauteed apples with cinnamon and a scrape of nutmeg (cardamom opt.) Garnish with some chopped walnuts and or pecans and it is wonderful. Cranberries or lingonberries are a nice addition too. Note: You can saute the Apple and or pear in coconut oil or butter or a little orange juice. Try it. Even people who hate oatmeal like this recipe.

I was also giggling and my s .o. wanted to know what was funny. “There’s two guys making oatmeal for 42 minutes” “and you’re watching that?” “Yeah. One of them says the pear won’t know it’s a bread knife”. He shrugged. gave up on me....

Oh, you gave me my laughter for the day!!! I love porridge for breakfast, but being raised by a Scottish mother, I like mine plain with salt and milk and sometimes with some blueberries. No sweeter, no spices, just the basic. I make my husband's with maple syrup, butter, cinnamon and apples (for his sweet tooth). Nothing better on a cold morning. Be well!

I'm a purist too and also cook mine the Scottish way - steel cut oats, water and a dash of salt. Don't always add anything to it after it's cooked.

Holy Dolly, porridge has never been that funny! :D I can understand Arne though: I discovered porridge when I was studying in Scotland and would have it every morning. As soon as came back to France I lost all taste for it (also, you can't go wrong with a good croissant.)

Finally!!! This was so freaking hilarious! Jag också undrar ibland hur i helskottas länge det kan ta att göra någon "enkel" grej i köket... And then he comes with veggies cut in exactly identical pieces! I love it how Arne is giggling while Carlos is giving him "the eye"... You two are so adorable!!! :D
