West Bengal is going through a state of competitive communalism, says CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury. In an exclusive interview to Rajya Sabha TV, Yechury says he is hopeful that the Left Front will recover from the lows of 2014 when they just got 12 seats. On being asked if Left Front politics was outdated for the young voters, Yechury said that issues like unemployment, gap between the rich and the poor and jobs were related to the young voters and the Left was thinking of reshaping newer strategies for this group. Yechury emphatically stated that issues like rural distress, unemployment got into the national headlines only because the Left Front took cognisance of these issues. Even if the Left does not have a strong electoral presence, it will continue to shape the political agenda of the various political parties, said the CPI(M) General Secretary.
