We emigrated to Australia from uk as £10 poms. Lovely memories of our 5 week voyage. I was 7 and we emigrated with another family who lived in the same street as us. We were placed in Wakeall Hostel in Queensland.

One of my very first cruises-an incredible 10-day Mexican Riviera cruise on Fairsky in the mid-80s when she was still Sitmar. What an excellent vessel she was back in those days.

Our very first cruise was on the Fairsky, a 10-day Mexican Rivera cruise. Maybe we cruised together on that wonderful ship! Captain Potenzoni, I think. Our favorite cruise ship director ever-George Schofield-kept everyone busy and happy with so many activities. We took dance lessons with Jamie and Jackie McVicar on that cruise. The sailaway was out on deck with a band and streamers.....the good old days!

I did the Maiden Voyage on this ship back in 1984. I am an entertainer that does a juggling act. I was onboard for 6 weeks. It was a wonderful ship and at the time seemed Massive. So sad to see her go. I also worked the fairsea and fairwind during that period

I was lucky to be able to work on this vessel as the Sky Princess in 1990. It's a shame that she wound up in Aliaga, Turkey for scrap. Farewell Sky Princess, previously known as Fairsky.

She was the last steamship to be built (and that was in 1984).

Such a beautiful ship designed in a more traditional style. I sailed on her 3 times twice as Fairsky and once as Sky Princess and she was a beauty inside and out. A shame her turbine machinery shortened her career.

Nice video, thanks for uploading this rarity. I still don't understand why Sitmar built a steamship in 1984 while all other cruise lines were converting their old ships from steam to diesel. The QE2, the Regal Empress (ex-Olympia / Caribe) and the Regent Star (ex-Statendam / Rhapsody) were all converted to Diesel 1 or 2 years after Fairsky's inauguration. The ship had few engine breakdowns over the years due to lack of spare parts in the market. In my opinion Fairsky's steam turbines have rushed her to the scrapyard. She could have survived few years more.

I agree, I never understood why they used steam in the early 80s.

read somewhere that Boris Blasov liked steam sturine power and felt that his engineers were good at maintaining such an engine

@@MrRonfelder you read correctly and I have read the book "The Sitmar Line and the V ships " which was very good value

Having turbine engines easily allowed the engineers to move between the brand-new Fairsky and the older fleetmates Fairsea and Fairwind.

@@cruisenostalgia3751My theory is that they never have a diesel powered ship in the past as best as I know so for Sitmar powering FAIRSKY with steam turbines made sense to them

This is beautiful, is there a full length video of the CROWN PRINCESS of 1990 that shows nearly the same thing? We sailed on her in 1992.

There may be, sadly I don't think I have it in my collection. I used to work at a store front travel agency that had so many of these videos. When they closed I was given them all and I still have more in storage! But I don't think I have a Crown Princess one 😥

From what I've read, this ship was horribly unreliable for almost all of her operators and career. Those steam turbines doomed her for the long term.
