In this video, Seal Team 6 warrior Don Mann joins us again to share some of the tips he uses to stay aware in any situation.
His situational awareness tactics will help you stay safe and alive in any outdoor situation. Especially in an urban environment.
Here's a checklist of SA tips and tactics that our SMEs have shared this week ...
1. Trust your intuition, choose safety
2. Constantly scan the area
3. Lay off the weapons of mass distraction while in public
4. If you’re going somewhere unfamiliar check the crime stats for the area (CrimeGrade.org, NeighborhoodScout.com, ADT Crime Maps)
5. When first entering a business or public venue scan for the cash register (especially gas stations) if a robbery occurs that’s where the action will be
6. Position yourself for observation
7. Make a note of the exits, especially the fire exits that probably won’t be used as much, share the exit strategy with your group
8. Make a note of potential cover and conceal areas
9. Make a note of who is in the area, if something doesn’t look right, it’s not right, profile like a mofo and fvck political correctness
10. Watch for bulges in people’s clothing (who’s carrying, friend or foe?)
11. Watch for people fidgeting with their hands, common LEO practice to identify bad guys PAY ATTENTION TO BODY LANGUAGE & DON’T STARE
12. Assess the general “mood” of the place, is it volatile, are there people arguing, are there groups visibly upset with each other?
13. Acronyms SLAM (stop, look, analyze, manage) OR OODA (observe, orient, decide, act)
14. Stay in condition yellow ALL the time when out of your home
15. Discuss all of the above with your party whether they want to hear it or not BE VIGILANT
16. Project a confident and aware posture

My Father was a US Marine and he taught me situational awareness all through life starting at a young age. I didn’t know at the time, he kept it low key. Of course he taught the basics but he went further. He included things like - wear a clip on tie vs a real one that can be used to easily choke someone. Imo situational awareness starts before you get to where your going, It’s at home, what you wear, knowing your own strengths and weaknesses and more. There were too many lessons in all the years to list them all but they stuck with me.

Thank you. The other day we went out - my Husband went into a pharmacy while I stayed in the car. There were two men walking around the car next to us, They went into the store & back out - I think they were waiting for someone inside the store. So, just in case, I took out the pepper gel spray I have in the outside pocket of my purse - flipped up the guard & had my finger on the trigger being ready. Then my Husband came out - opened the back door - I told him "you scared me - you almost got sprayed". All was well & we left the parking lot. So yes I am always aware - especially now.

Have you ever noticed that cops don't stay inside a vehicle. I never stay inside a car when the driver exits. Then I get out on a swivel. I want to pick up the pace of all around me. I try to keep my back covered. Until driver returns. But I never handcuff myself by sitting in the car . Never lose sight of your battle buddy. Keep your back covered to avoid getting surrounded. And make direct eye contact and let him know you see him.

I've been chased by another vehicle before and I definitely felt "that gut feeling" after a few turns. I put my left turn signal on (intending to actually go right) as a test. They also put their left turn signal on. Sketchy. Once I turned right and they followed, I knew it was serious. They then tailgated me at increasing speeds until I got away. Luckily my car was faster than theirs. The next night I pulled into my neighborhood and after talking to the police, a car that matched the description had followed another person. The difference was that they pulled over to talk to the person following them and were subsequently shot in the leg by the suspect.

I’ve had some road rager and just generally CRAZY people decide they wanted to start shit on the road and I’m just driving normally with my pops and they are doing nuts stuff to like several cars and then it’s my turn etc or just people generally doing some nuts stuff and literally the LAST thing I’d EVER do is pull over for someone acting weird on the road. I will literally drive In giant circles for hours until the police find me or go somewhere off-road in my lifted 4x4 they can’t or don’t want to go.

At age 70, I realize I am no longer the man I use to be. Living in the Baltimore Metro Area, crime has skyrocketed with the increase of liberal politics. I now have a carry permit, and attempt to discreetly go about my business, avoiding crowds if possible - because criminals have already red flagged me as an easy target, due to my age.

I Wear body armour every shift and most companies don’t even provide any for their employees. I bought my own body armour, very expensive here in Canada, but it’s still better than the other alternative.

We have solar & battery operated motion sensor alarms & lights around the house & property. We are kind of secluded here in the SW Arizona desert with only three houses on our road & away from other houses. So we need those warnings. We also have two dogs who do alert us when someone is coming - so between the alarms going off & the dogs growling & barking it gets noisy for a little while - but that is okay.

Great point regarding training on this issue. The final two live exercises on my 5 day Behavioural Detection course is twofold. Live exercise 1 looking for targets - playing the bad guy. In a busy airport or train station students will pick out targets, then on the de-brief explains why they chose their targets. Live exercise 2 as above but this time looking for wolves, looking for potential bad guys and then again on de-brief explain why they thought their chosen wolf/wolves were potential problems. It’s a great learning tool. Great video by the way, lots of good info being given out.

Situational awareness. I call it sensory skill training. Believe it or not I mastered this dodging traffic my whole life while skateboarding. Then in MMA & parkour & in hardcore shooting games. I'm no slowch let me tell you. DayZ. Battlefield series. I'm an expert marksman in games & in real life I've hit practically every target I've ever shot at. Including more then fire arms. Bows. Slingshots all sorts of weapons. 😂. I enjoy a challenge.😂 In sensory training though. I learn to listen to every single individual sound I decipher each individual one so when a new sound is introduced I'll notice it. I learned to pay attention to everything at all time's. I teach some of my family these skills too. Even touch comes into play. Paying attention to the littlest changes in your bodies comfortability or positions or even your gear. Always being aware of every dent crack or ding. Condition's of it all. Sensory training to me is multi fascisted. Even your Eyes come into play. The ability to use your peripherals even during a linear movement & making adjustments to your body to fit the environment. Parkour in other words. Every part of the body can be trained in amazing ways.

@@ib1ray Also don't shoot a gun unless you have a silencer for it. If you shoot it without a silencer, you better make sure that it is absolutely a life or death situation. Why ? You will attract marauders that want new gear and you will be a perfect target if they can ambush you. Anyone that hears your gunshot will rush towards your location faster than you can blink. I am not a expert, but I have played enough video games and watched enough movies to know that you have to be silent, fast and invisible to others if you want to survive unless you have a large group that can protect you.

So I hesitated to take the time to look each in the eye. Then I turned back around pulling out my wallet, totally in tune with what I had to do. I got my change and turned around. No body was there. In some situations the first thing is show no fear and then the threat will feel it. It could be the moment or the slight delay may throw them off for you have the first attack. Having some eyes transplanted to the back of your head would be nice but they are all ready there so use them. Act on sudden activities. I pick certain certain people in a crowd and imagine how I would handle him. I look for people that fit the crowd.. There is a different look they have if they of a gang or a total bat shit nut case.

No matter where I go i see and engage the language. It's ironclad. The way they place their hands. The words that they choose. The eye movement. Selling wolf tickets to read you if you are alpha or omega. this is always going on. Even between two friends. While guys are talking about bbq or old girl friends they are constantly sending each other this language. So observe. This is the true language. This is where you live or die. Or become someone girl. You didn't spot the language.

Having grown up in an overwhelmingly.Jewish neighborhood, I am very sympathetic to Jews (and am often taken for being Jewish)...but I can also see that Israel is not blameless vis a vis the Palestinians. Ask yourself: If you lived in an open-air concentration camp -such as Gaza, what would you do? This does not excuse Hamas' actions, but it does explain them. Of course Hamas is not all Palestinians either.

This slaughter on Israel was a wake-up call for their government to start allowing more of its citizens to carry firearms as is now being discussed by its leadership. Too little , too late for the victims of this Hamas slaughter. America from this 20 year army sergeant to you, please legally get a firearm, concealed carry permit and very importantly train from a qualified and safe range and firearms instructor. Your family is depending on you to protect them when the police cannot be there! 🇺🇸

The terrorist training ground that the police won't disturb in the mid-west reminds me of the pre-massacre surveillance by Hamas who were at the border fence surveilling people on the other side of the fence while Hamas revved their motorcycles and checked things out. Unfortunately most Israelis have a western mentality and can't comprehend that people would want to hurt them when the Israelis are trying to help them (Western mentality) as opposed to Islamic mentality where one is hated as an Infidel for their religion and in fact is where Islam originated from. Israelis and other people who came from the Islamic world understand this mentality (or lack thereof).

I’m a woman. Went down to the creek on my own to collect tadpoles for my frog pond the other day. On the way passed a man on the walking path. Being my friendly self I said hi. Told him to enjoy his walk and went on my way. I waited to make sure he was a few hundred metres away and started climbing down the embankment. Got down, turned around and he had doubled back and was hanging over the bridge watching me. I had nowhere to go that wasn’t secluded. He started climbing down and my dog got anchored. She made him nervous and when I said she will attack he turned around and went on his way. My gut told me to get out of there. Could have been innocent but I’ll never know. Lesson….As a woman, don’t go to quiet places on your own and ….different cultures interpret friendliness in different ways.

Concert was attacked in Israel. All the situational awareness in the universe would not have saved a single life, guns and machetes against kids who have nothin?? Is a really bad example. The Israeli government and security services dropped the ball almost too the point of pure letting happen what happened it was so horrible to completely ignore the threats that Israeli security services were aware of and still look like they let ot happen

@@madbombermikeNah he doesn't need to travel more. He sees them shooting each other and selling drugs in news clips. Never mind the fact every drug dealer, child abuser of every kind, murderer, thief, etc, that he knows in real life is most likely white. I live in a racist small town, it's always blown my mind how many people here pretend the problems of society are the colored people we're nowhere near. I'm like, uh, I grew up here. I know you guys aren't good to kids, I know you guys use and sell drugs, and 5 out of the 6 killers I've ever known have been white people, 1 of them from this very town. A racist mind is a dumb mind.
