It was a revelation how the planet carrier is the largest gear. Removes the mystery of planetary gear ratios. Thank you!

Agreed. When he said that many more things made sense. Couple more years and I'll understand everything.

i know nothing about transimissions or how they work but this kinda makes me happy to watch and learn from somebody who doesnt just tell me but shows me, explains how and why it does what it does, and shows the history of it... i cannot wait to watch the rest of this series for sure!!!

I’ve been trying to understand planetary gear sets for years. Your explanation is the first I have ever seen that makes it very clear. Thank you.

Why do you use 40 instead of 42 for your Sun gear, in your gear ratio calculations?
@kalaabdulrahim91263 ай бұрын
My vehicle in D drive blink and won't move some time also i feel it's slipped. Do i need to open and ispect whole transmission internal clutch packs and fluid coupling.

Students: should you be missing that teeny sun gear, check Sean's car. You'll see it dangling from his rear view mirror.

Great videos you guys make, just wondering why when calculating the ratios the sun had 42 teeth but in the calc it was 40?

Hi My Name is Jon & I’m one test away from my from my ASE masters, I need to pas the A2 (automatic transmission) I ran across your videos & I think there really well made and in depth, at the end of the video,I see it you want your students to complete the worksheets, I would love the opportunity to go through your videos & completing the worksheets also, how can I obtain them ? Thanks for the videos

Everything is posted at automotivetextbook.com. Scroll down and find automatic transmission curriculum. That takes you to a page with a flow chart. Click on the flow chart and zoom in on it. You’ll see the worksheets listed next to their respective name of the videos.

What is mechanically happening with the TC and transmission when in neutral?
@siuautomotive3 жыл бұрын
Since there is low resistance to rotation in the transmission in neutral, the input shaft will turn close to engine speed. If you monitored it with a scan tool (assuming you have an input speed sensor), you'd see the engine would spin slightly faster than input shaft (maybe 600rpm engine, 550 input shaft). As soon as you put it into gear, the input shaft would stop and you'd have an impeller spinning engine speed and a turbine/input shaft spinning zero rpm.

at 18:03 -Two questions 1) Why did Ring gear name suddenly turn to Input 2) Where did the Sun Gear losé 2 teeth ¿¿¿¿ So the calculation is wrong, shouldn't input be 110 I.e. 40 + 70 = 110 ????
@siuautomotive3 жыл бұрын
You weren’t supposed to notice that!!! Lol. I don’t know how I lost those two teeth on the sun gear and I really don’t know why I didn’t notice it until I was editing. Hopefully the concept still makes sense. Regarding question one, I’m not sure what you mean. Any of the three gears can be input, or the driving gear. In the chart, each gear is input, held, and output twice.
@MeaHeaR3 жыл бұрын
@@siuautomotive Sorry I meant why did the Internal gear name suddenly turn to ring. Before the slide it was referred to as an internal gear, but in the slide table it was called a ring gear. I thought this multiple use of names for the same part might confusé people watching like me 😁😁😁 I enjoyed the video immensely thanks 👍👍👍
