Is the 8L45 similar to this transmission ? Also , is it common for that pump drive gear to break? Good channel thanks!

Have you ever heard of unnecessarily hard 3-4 shifts on these 8L90s? It only occurs at low-medium throttle at around 2000-3500 rpm 3-4 shifts only. The 3-4 shift is way faster than it needs to be and all the other shifts seem normal. You can use GDS to learn the oncoming clutch for it and/or reset the whole thing and let it relearn which seems to help it until it learns back in few hundred miles. You can also lower the shift times with HP Tuners but it is no help it ignores it. So it appears to be controller related but then seems like it could be mechanical/hydraulic. The 3-4 shift isn't excessively hard but completely inconsistent with all the other shifts and you can see it on a log as well.

It'd likely be the 45678R (aka C5 clutch). Probably the solenoid, clutch reg valve or solenoid accumulator worn. Since you say that relearning it will help, but then it will eventually go back to being harsh, I'd have to believe it's a solenoid, valve, or hyd leak. These only adapt when they get hot, so if it adapts to a fluid leak after the fluid is hot (thin fluid, greater leaks), when it cools off and it doesn't leak as much, the shifts will be hard. Watch the VB video (OH part three). If you don't have a vacuum tester, I have a video up on how you can make one for a little over 100 bucks. It's good to know if you're dealing with a worn out valve body or if it's likely a solenoid. The solenoid is harder to test, since there's no good way to bench test it accurately.
